Hello all: Attached is a picture of what I believe is a fossilized skull that I found sitting in the grass on top of the soil in Fort Greene Park, located in Brooklyn, New York City (in the area known of Brooklyn known as Fort Greene). The fossil is approximately 1 and 1/2 inches long. I struggled to decide which photos to add. What you cannot see in the attached photos is the other side of the fossil, which preserved quite distinctly nasal cavities. I'm a lawyer, and I do not have any background in paleontology, though I did take geology 101 in college, and I've since never stopped searching for cool rocks. This, I think, ranks as one of the coolest. It looks more reptilian to me from the front, but from the other side, which you cant see in the picture, and is essentially the inside of the skull, it sort of resembles a bird. I do understand birds evolved from reptiles/ dinosaurs. This fossil strikes me as belonging to something in between. Please help me ID this fossil. Your time and expertise are greatly appreciated. Thank you! Regards, Jordan Lieber.

Hi! I'm 16 and new to the forum. I live in Brooklyn and i'm interested in fossil hunting, the problem is that I don't know of any sites around me where I could find fossils and my parents don't have a car so I can't drive upstate or out of state to places that reportedly have plenty of fossils. Any help is appreciated!

Rockaway Beach, actually within New York City, finally yielded its first vertebrate fossils to me today: a small, beat up, weathered chunk of whale bone, and this wonderful, large bony fish vertebra. It only took 11 years of collecting... Happy New Year all and may 2019 be full of treasures from the deep past!

Found this on a beach in Staten Island, NYC. The beach fronts on the Raritan Bay and Atlantic Ocean. I am a complete and utter noob when it comes to fossils. I'm pretty sure it IS a fossil at least, I showed pictures to my archaeologist friend (he specializes in Viking Age artifacts and sites) and he said it's definitely a fossil...so there's that . Anyone have any idea what it is (or was)? I thought maybe a shell? I Googled pictures of fossilized shells and didn't see any that look quite like it. I hope that the pictures are sufficient, I tried to capture how the fossilization goes up on the sides of the rock and it's not just a flat imprint. Please excuse the glittery nail polish. Thank you for your time!

This is my first time posting. My husband is a huge fossil enthusiast. Our two sons and I would like to surprise him by taking him on a fossil hunting excursion for Father's Day. We live in NYC, and are hoping to find someplace that's fun, that's within 2-3 hours of the city, and that also has the opportunity to hike or swim or do one other activity of some kind. Any suggestions? Thank you for any help or ideas you can share - we really appreciate it.
