Hi. Took my bi-weekly trip to Big Brook this week. Had the whole place to myself again. It was not to cold. Enjoy the the pics. Any feedback is always greatly appreciated Mark Scapanorhynchus Texanus Squalicorax Kaupi top row- Archaeolamna kopingensis middle- Carcharias Samhammeri Bottom row- sawfish Ischyrhiza Mira Cretolamna Appendiculata I’m assuming modern bone because I’m not that lucky this pic is the bottom of the above picture bottom right. Not sure if it is anything Found a black m&m. Oh the humor. I don’t think everything below are concretions but just want to make sure before I toss it.

Hello everyone, I got a question about the ID of this coral. I brought it to Ralph Johnson and he said that it is either a coral or belemnite, but when I was consolidating it, I realized that it is porous, which is very much like a coral and unlike a belemnite. The specimen consists of two pieces and is about 5/8” long. Has anyone seen a coral like this? @non-remanié @Plax @Al Dente @MarcoSr @siteseer @frankh8147 Thanks, Joseph

Hey everyone, I got this tooth from Jersey that struck me as being something different at first glance. The general shape, very pronounced cutting edges, and concentric layers visible at the base made me think that it’s not Mosasaur, but rather some type of Croc. If it’s Croc it is something other than Thoracosaurus which makes it a unique tooth. It’s about 3/4”. Thanks! Joseph @non-remanié @frankh8147 @Al Dente @siteseer @MarcoSr @Carl

Happy new year! I had a very relaxing and enjoyable 30 degree day in the creek yesterday. Tried out my my first pair chest waders yesterday and they where awesome. Anyway I feel like I had a decent haul. Last time I went out I almost threw out a hybodont fin spike. Thankfully I posted a picture before I did anything. It caused me though to think everything was something yesterday. There I’m going to make a separate post of some items I’m not sure of. Enjoy the pics. Any thoughts on I’d would be greatly appciated. Hey all! New to the forum and happy to finally have something to share. Went hunting in Montague, NJ two days ago on the first of the year and had some luck. I found directions to the site, "Mountaintop Rd. Fossil Beds" using instructions from the first entry on this list. Looks like it's all in the same town as Trilobite Mountain, which I unsuccessfully searched for early on in the day. Eventually I decided to try my hand at this second one before sunset hit. It's a shame that somebody seems to be using this property to hunt animals instead of fossils, but using some discretion you should be able to get in just fine. To my delight, my first fossil hunt yielded many interesting specimens. Shells and more than a few instances of Phalangocephalus dentatus. Wondering about how i might prep this one, which I found inside a larger hunk of rock utterly clogged with shells and trilobite fragments. Would it be useful to take a dremel to it? Also found this strange negative, wondering if anybody more experienced than myself has opinions on what could have left this impression. I hope to do many more fossil hunts in my lifetime. This was a perfect day for me, I can't wait to get back out and do it again. Cheers everybody!

Following the naming convention of others before me, I had the 1st hunting trip of the new decade (at least at Big Brook!). I was the only one in the parking lot 1/1/20. I think I've actually hunted all three holidays this season, and enjoyed the nice time in nature. Here are some of my finds. Andy

Hi everyone, I think I found a year maker recently, and in good time! The 1st tooth pictured is what I am praying is a Pseudocorax affinis, which is incredibly rare here. The 2nd tooth is an Archaeolamna, I just need confirmation that it’s a symphyseal. Both teeth are Late Cretaceous. Edit: I forgot to add the size, 1st tooth: 12 mm, 2nd tooth: 10 mm @non-remanié @Al Dente @siteseer Happy Holidays! 1st tooth:

Hi. Went to Big Brook again yesterday. It’s turning out to be a weekly addiction for me haha. It was in the 30s and sunny to start and then ended cloudy with snow. Fun times. Not sure what everyone else does to keep hands warm while sifting in freezing water. As a runner, I learned a trick to put latex gloves on as you first layer under whatever gloves you normally use. It works amazing. Keeps yours hands super warm. Hope this helps anyone in the forum. Goblin tooth without the root. (Thanks jersey devil) !

Hi. I thought it would be a good day yesterday to go to Big Brook yesterday. It rained for almost two straight days and the temperature jumped up to 55-60 degrees. I thoughts with all the rain and warmer temperature I would be able to get some good finds yesterday. Yesterday the temperature dropped into the 30's and it snowed. The water was the highest I have ever seen it because of the rain. I could not even get to my favorite spot because it was under water. I found a couple decent spots to look around. Here are my finding. A couple things I have no idea what they are and something I think I know what they are. If anyone can help with the ID's that would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, I found this bone while on a hunt in the cretaceous creeks of new jersey, very odd bone and definitely feels fossilized. My best guess is turtle but I am very unsure, I appreciate any feedback on this piece if it is Id'able thank you.

Hi. I went to go see a client yesterday and realized I was 20 minutes from Big Brook. So I decided to swing by for a hour or two. I went to the same spot that I found the plesiosaur tooth last week. I ended up getting nay staying a hour. 30 minutes into my quick trip I found this:

Hi. I went to Big Brook again on Friday for my weekly quick trip. We had a really bad rain storm mid week so the the water was the highest I have ever seen it and the creek floor was like quicksand because of the 8-10 inches of fresh sand and other snarge. Every time I took a step my foot would sink down. The first 2 hours was nothing special. More of a struggle getting around. But the last hour I found a very productive spot. I posted one of the finds in fossil I’d. A big thanks you to @The Jersey Devil for all is patients and help with ID. Enjoy the pics. Hope I ID everything correctly. Plesiosaur tooth. Super excited about this one!

Hi. Found this at big brook yesterday. Thought it was just a piece of a shark tooth at first. Now that it dried out it’s not smooth or flat like a shark tooth. It’s more circular and rough. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi. Thought I would share my two trip experience/finds to big brook. I live about an hour away so I get to go as much as I want during the week. I went last Thursday and this past Monday. Thursday was not good at all. I got a flat tire and ended up changing my tire in the BB parking lot. I had just enough time to find one shark tooth because it was getting dark. I went back this Monday to redeem myself. Here are my findings: i know top left is a vertebrae I thought I might of had something good but then the dried out and they all look like snarge row 1 is gobblin row 2-3 are crow I believe kaupi row 4 is mackerel but not sure which species row5 I have no clue haha row 6 sand tiger I believe this is a fish tooth or claw. Not sure Any corrections to my IDs would be much appreciated. Thank you! Also if anyone is interested in going to BB during the week it would be great to have company. I can be there from10-1 Monday through Friday. Just need about a week notice. PM if anyone is interested
