  1. Short hunt in the rain. One vert is encased in rock. The Enchodus & Mosasaur teeth were a few feet apart.
  2. I have one creek that I hunt at the North Sulphur River Texas that has a variety of Rudists. I thought I would share some of my recent finds.
  3. Short morning hunt. It was hot & muddy but I had a god day. Xiphactinus left maxilla with complete replacement teeth and partial teeth, Mosasaur vert in great shape, Fossil rib, Rudists and cool old bottle.
  4. Made another foray to the North Sulphur River last Sunday. After a couple of wasted stops, I finally found an area that had promising-looking gravel bars. Wasn't as productive as I had hoped, but it was still worthwhile. The first find was this. The consensus among the Dallas Paleo members that responded to my ID request was "possible turtle plastron fragment." (Continued... )
  5. Sorry for the poor quality pics but my tooth is home and I'm offshore surrounded by live sharks . I normally only find large items such as Mosasaur, Plesiosaur verts etc so I was excited to find my first shark tooth at the NSR Texas. I know it's broken but can anyone ID it for me? By looking online my guess is Cretodus or Cretolamna but that's strictly a guess.
  6. My friend sent me this pic of his last hunting trip at the NSR Texas. He asked me what I spotted in the picture? He only collected the Native American point and didn't see the Ammontie until he was home posting his pics. Lol he was quite upset as I would have been. Slowing down is something I also need to work on.
  7. I tried hunting the NSR last Sunday. The water was still so high, I couldn't see anything but water from the bridge at my originally-planned stop, so I went upstream to Pete Patterson Fossil Park at Ladonia. The water was still a bit deep even there, and very fast-moving. Still, gravel bars were visible, so I took a shot at it. Not too productive, shale & mud were covering a lot of what was there. A chunk of petrified wood (Continued... )
  8. First of all let me say I have a huge amount of respect for all of you daredevils that risk life and limb to be the first to the North Sulphur River after a rain. I spent last night dreaming of all the mossy verts and teeth I was going to find this morning as I finally took the time to drive out there. I started at the 2990 bridge and instantly gave up finding that there is no chance in heck that I was making my way down there. I would love to know where there is any access point from there that doesn't require repelling equipment. I decided I would head to the 34 bridge and Ledonia Foosil Park access but even there, being alone and unaware of what dangers may lurk, I chickened out there as well as the water was still a little higher than I felt safe with and I didn't feel like becoming a fossil myself and have my bones end up on this forum years from now. I would love sometime to get out with someone who knows how to navigate the area soon after a rain and find some of the great items there are to locate before it is picked clean. Let me know if there are any volunteers. That being said, I decided to head over 82 and head to Sherman and see if there was any pressure there yesterday after the morning rain. When I arrived, I could see at once that there had been heavy traffic long before I got there. It was so dug up it looked like a scout troop had been through the area. Not expecting to find much, I went ahead and started combing through others spill piles and to my surprise found quite a few teeth.n. Nothing award winning but for two hours I did fairly well. Found several P. whipplei and two fairly nice Cretalamna as well as the usual broken pieces of S. texanus. I even found a small price of Mossy bone just to make myself feel better. Found a mammal tooth that I am suspecting is horse but it seems a bit small. Would love confirmation from someone more knowledgable than myself.
  9. Here's the haul from my last trip to the North Sulphur River. The riverbed was covered in a LOT of broken shale from back-to-back heavy rains sending the river level on a roller coaster ride. Made it hard to spot stuff, but once that rock dries out & starts breaking down, a light rain will show some stuff, I'll bet! The first thing I came across in a side creek was this little Scaphites in matrix. Next, in the same creek, I found this little gastropod with classic Ozan formation red coloring. Same creek, another find: This odd little bivalve cast, with some contrasting matrix on the inside. Even though it was broken, I picked it up because the contrast was rather cool looking. Next up, the find of the trip! (Continued... )
  10. Slow day but nice variety. I finally found a shark tooth. Well most of one.
