  1. On Sunday I followed up on a tip I found in my research on the North Sulphur River. The riverbed near my entry point. Lots of exposed limestone. You can follow the limestone layers as they drop down out of the bank & into the riverbed.
  2. North Sulphur River Trip. Mosassaur vert, Exogyra, bone fragments, and small arrowhead.
  3. Fun North Sulphur River fossil hunt in the normally picked over area at Ladonia TX. My hunting buddy found some great items also.

    Help On Id

Mosasaur on the left but unsure on the second pic. Looks like a toe bone.
  5. I hunt the North Sulphur River on a regular basis which is 1 1/2 hr from Tyler to the closest bridge and love it but I would like to try new places. Is there anywhere else within a 2 hr drive from Tyler TX to fossil hunt? Any help is appreciated.

North Sulphur River Items For Id

Here I am, back for more ID help! Items from my North Sulphur River hunt on 8-16-15. Scale in photos is a centimeter ruler. Specimen 1: Specimen 2:
  8. Went hunting at the now-almost-dried-up North Sulphur River today. Went in quite a way downstream from Ladonia. The lack of water made gravel screening trickier, but I managed. On to the finds! Scale in all photos is a centimeter ruler. First, some Hamulus squamosus calcareous worm tubes. Then we have 2 impressions of Inoceramus sp. in shale.
  9. Fairly new fossil & arrowhead hunter. I mainly hunt the North Sulphur River in East Texas. So far I've found Mosasaur teeth, Mastodon tooth enamel, Exogyra by the carload, arrowheads, Mosasaur paddle bones, Baculites of all colors and sizes among other cool fossils. I'm always up for a good weekday hunt while I'm home from offshore if anyone is interested in going.

    Are These Really Enchodus Teeth?

I found these teeth a while back on the North Sulphur River. Another hunter at the river told me they were Enchodus, but I never had anyone take a really close look at them to confirm the ID. So, have at it, Fossil Forum Crew! Tooth 1: Tooth 2: EDIT because I'm a dingbat: Scale is in cm.

    Mosasaur Bone

Here's another recent mosasaur find from the North Sulphur River. Any ideas which bone this might be a part of? One end seems to be an articulating surface. thanks

    Collector - New Member

Hello Everyone! I have been collecting fossils from the North Sulphur River since I was a kid. I have many acres of land along the North Sulphur River, not far from Slab Town, TX. I have always collected, and have not really tried to ID them until now. Hoping this site will help with some ID's.

    Teeth Id

Have some teeth I found in the North Sulphur River in Texas. I assume they are Mosasaur, The large one is split in half, and a good view of the inside. Looks different from other Mosasaur teeth I found. Also showing some tips of Mosasaur teeth. Also a pic of a nice shark tooth. Would like to know if anyone has an ideal of the type shark, and if the large split tooth is from a Mosasaur.

    What Is This?

Can anyone help me with this? Thought it was corpalite, but then saw the joint-like shape....found in the ozan formation, north sulpher river, ladonia, tx
  17. Well I have not been to the NSR since August. If anything goes right I'll get a whole day to plod through the mud with my old buddy Trenton-mon this Sunday. I feel rather confident we will bring back some decent finds. Anyone who has some recent hunts out there please post pics of what you found!
  18. I keep finding these at the NSR (found 3 more yesterday) and haven't been able to get an ID on them. I've posted pics in the past without any response so I thought maybe they were just anomalies but then I kept finding more and more of them and they all seem to have the same shape and markings so they're 'something'...but what? I shake my head and laugh every time I find another one because I can't figure out what they are...tooth, bone, tooth & bone...??? Definitely not a rock so I keep collecting them regardless. Any thoughts or ideas?

    Nsr Escape?

It looks as though I may find myself having to stay a night in Bailey this weekend. Seeing as to how I'll be right there with the time and the means I may be able to slip away to the NSR. My last trip about a month ago was simply excellent. Coprolites and verts were rather abundant. The mud was grueling but we forged ahead, out distanced all of the footprints and left ours where we went. Then it rained so we can just start over and see what else turns up there. Sweet
  20. Some finds from my October treks on the North Sulphur River in Fannin County Texas. OZAN FORMATION. Here are some weathered Mosasaur verts along with a fish vert and more bone frags. I am starting to lock in on some of the the smaller things. These are a bit taller than the penny that I forgot to include for size reference. My wife found this cool fish fin, its about 2 inches in length Some worm tubes and starfish parts A few more verts and frags Trentonmon and I went to the fossil day workshop in Ladonia Tx. We brought some fossils with us that we wanted an opinion on. Everyone was very nice and they put on a good show for us. We each were given a copy of the Louis Jacobs book..LONE STAR DINOSAURS. I'd been thinking about buying it for a while. So nice swag!! We appreciate everyone who was involved in doing the event. It was a good learning experience. Having said that we didn't follow the long caravan of vehicles headed for a guided hunt at the ever picked over Fossil park entrance. We hit the river for a short hunt at a spot we had not gone before. It was very muddy and well picked over but I got out of there with a few decent finds. I found this very tiny vert, Im not sure if its a shark or fish vert. I was really seeing small when I saw that one right? Its been a few months since a really good rain. I can't complain about what I've found during the summer and fall, but I know a good rain might uncover the one that didn't get away.... One thats been there millions of years waiting for me to find it It keeps us coming back

    Unidentified Bone

Here is the link to my trip report. The bone in question is the white one. It has a flaky apperance on the outside. The outside looks almost like it is enamel. Any ideass? http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php/topic/26041-north-sulphur-river-121411/page__view__findpost__p__285171
