So I’m back down at Holden beach doing some fossil hunting. I came back yesterday with some cool little finds. So I have identified this tooth as an angel shark tooth. I just wanted to know if finding one was rare, and is it in good condition? (Found off the North Carolina coast.)

I'm very new to fossil hunting (I've never been!) But I am hoping to find some ammonites in North Texas. The problem is I am not sure where exactly to go and the 2nd problem is, I'm very limited on time (and money) SO i need a day trip (I'm about 4hrs away from Dallas area). I see Spring Creek is a good spot... but that creek runs forever it seems! I'm not looking to take a car load home, I'm looking for just a few pieces! My 78yr old mother and 75yr old aunt would be thrilled to have an ammonite!! But i gotta find it myself! It would be kinda cheating to just buy one some where. So can anyone pinpoint me to a location where I should be able to find a few (small ones are just fine!) And like I said, limited on time and money! I've got a bunch of kids (8 with 5 still at home) and a full time job (stay at home mom) at home! So hoping for a place I can find a few in a few hours (cant justify spending money on a hotel and cant afford it either) I'm willing to do the work, just need a location! Rachel

Hello everyone, I would like to know what this Fossil might be. I thought it looked a bit similar to a whale hearing bone, but not as much that I could be certain. The Fossil was found in the north of Germany, near the Baltic sea. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you very much in advance. Greetings Lukas

Below is gastropod and was wondering a couple of things. Found NSR up from the Ladonia Park. What species to label it. Second though is it is heavy for its size. I know weight doesn't matter a lot but it is unusual. It is a different matrix from the normal NSR black or red gastropod steinkerns normally found there. Ok, the really unusual part it smells like metal. Like when you hold coins in your hand and they have the metallic smell. This has that smell and your hand smells just like it after holding. Maybe thinking to much into this but just is different. Bone fragment same location. Might be to worn to label.

Wanted to make sure this is a Exogyra ponderosa since it is very worn. Also, how large do these get as this one is 7in x 5in and weighs 4.7.

Found this specimen at the edge of the water while shelling this past Sunday, January 12, 2020, at Navarre Beach in Santa Rosa County, Florida. My first guess is that it is the top portion of the beak of a species of bird, but found nothing when I Goggled it. It measures 35 mm in length and 22 mm at it’s widest point. I really appreciate your help and apologize in advance for my “beginner” status and lack of knowledge in the field. Sincerely, DB

My sister found this time we went out. She has only sent the one pic but figured it might be able to be ID'd. Found NSR in the same area as a vert, baculite pieces and a lot of oysters. Piece is about 2 inches long. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello again, Had a good trip last weekend. Quite a few to clean but have a few need help with. Not sure what this is but odd shape stood out to me. Any ideas? Will take better pics if needed. Thanks for your help in advance.

Wondering what this might be. Thought it was geological but the pattern might suggest other wise. Hard to see as my camera is not the best. With my jewelers lenses i see small honey comb looking structures in a line. Looking as if they are built one on top of another. Thoughts?

Went to the very upper par of NSR this morning. Didn't really find anything special. Cannot identify the pics. Coloration really stood out from the dark matter they were in. They were not in the creek area but closer to the middle of the high material in the bed of the river. Everything else besides a few odd rocks were dark grey or black. All were found within 20 feet of each other except a really small (.25x.5) red colored piece. Still need to clean and photo. Total of 8 around the same size. Pic 2 has flat surfaces compared to the round of the others. I am thinking Diploporita. No idea of species. Any other thoughts?

Hi everyone I just read that a New pterosaur has been named it’s called Cryodrakon Boreas it’s name means cold dragon of the North wind it’s wingspan was 32.8 feet and it’s diet consisted of baby dinosaurs mammals and lizards it was found 30 years ago in the dinosaur park formation of Alberta Canada then it was thought to be a Quetzalcoatlus until 30 years later it was studied and is now its own genus here’s to learn more.

Just wondering if this is a fossil and of it is, what do you think it might be? Sorry I didn't have a ruler when taking pics. My thumb is on the pics and it's about an inch or a little less across. This was found in a limestone riverbed near Justin, Texas (North Central Texas). We have found many other smaller marine fossils (actually casts I think - I am not an expert by any means) that I am pretty sure are from the Cretaceous Period in the same area. I have more pictures that are higher resolution, but I can't upload them here due to the size restrictions. Thanks in advance for any info or ideas that you might have.

This will be my first trip to North Carolina and am looking for suggestions and tips. I'm staying in Deep Gap (think that's the name), but totally open for driving a few hours to find some good spots. Hoping to find shark teeth and anything else i can. If anyone has any suggestions about places to go please let me know. I have a week there and want to make the most of it.

I found this odd shaped fossil in a gravel bar of the Cretaceous North Sulphur River in Ladonia, Texas. I have recently found fossil turtle, and I was wondering if it might be that. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi all! I found this in the North Sulphur River this weekend in a large gravel bar. My first thought was that it was a Globidens Mosasaur tooth, but I’m just not sure. It’s approximately a half an inch diameter, has striations on the underside, and a hole in the center. The top side has been flattened, which if a tooth I am assuming is the chewing surface? Completely fossilized. No enamel. I would appreciate any input! Thank you so much!

I found this very small mosasaur bone (part of the paddle I assume), and it has a very small hole towards the top. This was found in the Cretaceous North Sulphur River of Ladonia, Texas. There have been a few discussions on other forums whether this is a natural or man-mad occurance. Has anyone else here ever found a mosasaur vertebrae or bone that has a near perfect hole in it? I’m very interested in how this occurred. Thank you for your input!

Hello all! I'm from Maryland and after discovering a few sites in Southern Maryland earlier this year I am hooked on fossil hunting! With the summer rolling around paired with the crazy rains we've been getting I honestly am excited for winter again! I stumbled across Onslow Beach last year accidentally and also was able to pull out some teeth... but with much more experience and more beach time I'm hoping this trip will yield much more sweet finds! I was curious if anyone had any must see spots along the way or in general around Camp Lejeune? Public spots are okay, I know how guarded some of the more lesser known spots need to be! I've seen quite a bit about the Aurora Fossil Museum and a few other places as well. Unfortunately (kinda kidding but not) I'll have our puppy with us... but if anyone wants to meet up and check out Onslow or anywhere near by let me know! The beach is amazing in itself with how relatively private it is. I'll be headed out next week and staying for 4 days (I think). Thanks!

Hey there! We live in North FL and travel to Venice several times a year to visit family. I spend a good majority of my time in Venice hanging out at the beach with my kids, hunting for teeth and other fossils. We have such a good time and I would love to find some spots where I can take them to hunt for fossils closer to home. Anybody here have any suggestions? Preferably near the big bend area. Thanks!

I am new to this forum, and have so enjoyed reading all your posts! I have learned so much! I made a solitary journey to Post Oak Creek this morning, after a meeting at work, and had a great time! The findings were modest, but it was a beautiful morning!!! I decided I would add to the chatter here, also see if I can post a picture, for a change, rather than only viewing.
