Where are the closest dinosaur sites from The Newcastle area?
FrostbyteFossils posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
So I live in the Newcastle area. I got this map that states that Coonabarabran contains jurassic rock. I can't figure out how accurate this is. So I suppose my question is: does anyone know if this is true and if not, where is the closest place to Newcastle, NSW that contains possible dinosaur or bone material to find? -
G'day everyone! I have recently returned from a trip to NSW where I did a bit of collecting in exposures from the Gunningbland Formation (450 Million Years Old). I found this fossil on the last day of the trip and at first thought it was a bryozoa. Though, after a bit of observing and some comments from members of the forum, I believe this could be a dendritic graptolite? Graptolites have been recorded from the formation but I have not found any information on dendritic graptolites from Gunningbland. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Dan

Found this in the lake macquarie area. I know its a long shot but is this a fossil or just a concretion or something else geological? P.s. just ask for more pics. I can only upload one due to limitations.

Was up at Lake St. Clair, NSW looking for late(?) Carboniferous marine fossils and came across this thing. I am thinking that its a fish tooth but not too sure as no vertebrate material has been reported from the site to my knowledge. Please let me know if clearer photos are needed This specimen is aprox. 7 mm long Thanks,

A few things from the Silurian (Llandovery) Cotton Formation near Forbes, NSW Australia. Most of these specimens are currently undescribed, but a paper will be released on them soon. One of my strophomenid brachiopods from the site will be in the paper, so I'll post it when it comes out, since they're a pain to photograph. The rare Aulacopleura pogsoni ....

This specimen was found amongst shells and bryozoans. I am assuming crinoid but my knowledge on them isnt that good. What are the small little worm looking things next to the stem?

Hi Everyone, Found some fossils of what appear to be coral but would just like to get some clarification. Both pieces where found on the Murrumbidgee river near Wee Jasper, NSW. The first specimen has a piece of what I'm assuming is Horn coral but there is another impression next to it that looks like it might be something as well. It is round, 30mm in diameter and textured like a sponge. The second, I'm not really sure, but it may be coral? There are two roughly textured patterns, round, one bigger than the other. First one (smaller) is 35mm radius and second is 65mm radius Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much, Jed

Hi Everyone! I found this on the Murrumbidgee river near Wee Jasper NSW. Was found near other shell/mollusk fossils (pic also attached).

These are some shells found from a town near Mulbring, NSW. If you go fossil hunting these are what to expect, along with literal bucket loads of bryozoans. Good luck Also if anyone can further identify, go ahead.

Could belong to either Dasyurus viverrinus (Eastern Quoll), D. maculatus (Tiger Quoll) or D. geoffroii (Western Quoll).

Collected on my first trip with The New South Wales Fossil Club. Gastropods aren't common from this location so I was pleased to find it.

G'day, We recently found this partial placoderm skull at a property near Wee Jasper, NSW and I'm wondering what part of the skull it is. We found a lot of other stuff on that trip too, and I'll do a trip report on that eventually. Thanks, Izak

Hi all, I found this amongst shells on a beach in Eden which is located in southern NSW Australia. I'm not sure it is a fossil but it does feel stone like and does not smell like a dead sea creature in fact it has no odour. It is about 4cm long by 2cm by 3cm. Thank you to anyone who can help with this.
