Hello everyone. I purchased this as a group of rocks...gathered from the Middle Devonian, Hamilton Group, Kashong Memeber in Seneca Cnty., NYS. I can see that it is an Orthocone Nautiloid,. ID would be appreciated. But the most interesting part...is the dark "object" at the end. This area is not considered to be friendly to soft tissue. However the nautiloid and this dark object seem to be seamless. Explanations of this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Greg

I don't really believe it's a tooth...but what is it? Found at Penn Dixie, NYS...Middle Devonian. Photos for size, back and front. Thanks Greg

I found this plant material in Union Springs, NY...at the conjuntion of Lower Devonian/Upper Silurian. Along with this was found...ugh, can't remember the name. Remind me of bean sprouts...I think starts with a "C". Is there enough to identify? Thanks Greg

I've found this...I've looked through my middle devonian books under Gastropod, Ammonite, Bivalve, Brachiopod...can't find it under any of them. Pretty sure it's a mud mold...but, not 100%. Comes from the Kashong Member, Hamilton Group, Middle Devonian, Seneca Cnty, NYS. Thanks Greg

I purchased some fossil rocks from a friend who visited the Cincinnati area as well as western Indiana...and a Boy Scout Camp. He told me it was Orcovician or Silurian. I'm looking for id on the bivalves on the "plate". Sorry, my bad! It's actually from the Deep Run Member here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS. The bivalve is: Pseudoaviculopecten princeps. So much fun getting older! Thanks Greg

Middle Devonian, Seneca Cnty., NYS, Kashong Member(?). When I look at this rock it looks as though there are 3 kinds of Bryozoans. The first photo is of the rock itself...the 2nd photo include lines of what I see as different Bryozoans. The Blue line (3rd photo) shows pronounced verticle lines, Red line (4th photo) shows "elongated" structures and Green line(5th photo) shows square structures. Am I looking at it wrong? Id would be helpful as well as clarification on what I think I see. Thanks Greg

I found this near Seneca Lake in NYS...Middle Devonian I'm not sure, but I think it is the whole piece shown. There is matrix covering it so, I'm not sure. The only thing that I've come up with is from Linsely's book and it's title is Bryozoan "stick form. Thanks Greg

Fossilized stromatolites provide records of ancient life on Earth.Stromatolites are layered bio-chemical accretionary structures formed in shallow water by the trapping, binding and cementation of sedimentary grains by biofilms (microbial mats) of microorganisms, especially cyanobacteria.found on brothers property in Wurtsboro NY.also found florescent calcite formations. This is what i believe they are.

Hello all, Putting this one out to the masses before I break down and order a copy from the state. Does anyone have a copy of the Fourth Annual Report of the Geological Survey of the Third District from the New York State Geological Survey, 1840, Annual Report no. 4, more specifically, [p. 355-383]? In particular I am looking for Vanuxem's writings about the Schoharie fm. Truth be told, I will take any information about the Schoharie that I can get. I don't know if I am just bad at research, but the information seems sparse on this one. Lol, this is such an incredible long shot, but I figured you guys have surprised me with weirder requests in the past
