Hello all, this is my first post, and is an ID task. I found this on Braklesham beach, which has a few offshore Eocene clay deposits rich in shark teeth and Ray pallets, as well as turtle carapace. I'm not sure what this is, but it is very similar in size (1.5cm) and shape to squid beaks I have dissected in biology, and was wondering if it might be the beak of a cephalopod. I'm sorry for the poor photos, I'll try get some better ones with my camera. All the best, Tsav.

Dear all, I am totally new to the community. I found what seems to be a fossilised octopus arm, a couple of days ago, along with some solens (I guess). From that "discovery", many wonders/questions. The fossile was found in on one of the boulders displayed in the attached picture. I think that these boulders did not form naturally, as we have a lot of dams/failed attempt to put together dams in the past in that particular area. So I realise I may need to figure out where these boulders originated form/how they ended up here to get any further in my research... but I'd need some motivational incentive: is the community here able to confirm this is a fossilised octopus' arm?

I found these two stones in two different places both of them from silur. Anyone can which kind of octopuses it is? Is the round thing a part of the octopus? One of them have visible crystals and which material it is made of? Aragonite? Martin

I photographed that today and wonder what it is. Could it be a octopus? Max

Hi! Here is a trip report on visiting a locality near Carlin, Nevada (one of our early videos). I'm not sure if what we decided to call "octopus beaks" (see 1:44 and image attached) are the real thing and not just fragments of brachiopods. Perhaps, somebody more knowledgeable can weigh in with the right answer. Thanks in advance!

Hello, TFF I was recently in Holzmaden, Germany when I found a piece of an octopus. I also recently read a book about octopus intelligence. This made me wonder if some prehistoric creatures might have been intelligent. I am especially interested in tool use, which has been observed in some modern animals. ( Octopuses, Cetaceans, Birds.) Has anyone found some possibly intelligent animals(fossilized?)

Hi all, a friend recently offered an interesting fossil to me - an octopus from Lebanon. Now, as some of you might know - Lebanon does have octopus fossils, though they are very rare. This fella here doesn't look outright fake at first glance, but I don't know if he's real either. I don't know many Lebanese experts, but when I showed it to two, here's what I was told. Expert A - It's real, but the tentacles are painted Expert B - It's just a squid painted to look like an octopus Now, painted tentacles is annoying, but at least it would be a real octopus. But a squid painted to look like one is a big no-no. What are your thoughts on this guy?
