Good Day! My name is Carolyn. I am from Newport, Oregon. A few months ago, I purchased my first Megalodon tooth. I purchased it from a fossil shop in Lincoln City. I don't know much about them, but always wanted one and am looking for additional pieces to add to my collection. When purchasing fossils, what are the best things to look for as far as making sure the piece is legitimate and authentic? I feel the shop in LC is reputable, they have been there quite some time and have a huge selection. It is not restored in anyway, it is missing some enamel, and the root is quite intact. The root area is dark while the enamel portion is a medium brown. I'm sorry I have no way to post a picture at this time. Thanks so much. I am excited to join this forum and look forward to learning about this area of collecting! I am an avid fine art collector and fossils are an extension of that! Thanks again!

Hello. I found this strange rock on the beach in Lincoln city Oregon, at Siletz Bay. It looks very unusual and seems like it could be a fossil formation of some kind. Any thoughts? Thanks for reading.

I live in southern oregon. I found this on the river near the beach near Brookings. I didn't even realize it looked like a possible fossil until recently. I have had it for about two years. If it's nothing but a rock guess it's a rock. To me I see a broken open egg with a long snouted/billed creature with vvv teeth. I don't have a ruler but a pen should be easy for a basic measurement scale. If it needs to be more precise let me know and I'll do better.20230619_010120.heic

We had a fantastic storm last week followed by a near-0 tide, so we did what every normal person does and went rockhounding. I found the item below in a small pile of rocks churned up where a small creek meets the Pacific ocean. General Location: Oregon coast between Brookings and Gold Beach Specific Location: Creek bed mouth, just above the 0-tide line Post-storm, surface find Details hard to see in the photos: Single ridge line from the tip to the back, about 1 cm from the top. This appears to be on one side only, but weathering makes it hard to tell for sure. At its thickest point, it is about 2.5 cm wide Front Bottom Back Top

i found this near a recent rock slide , it was interesting and different from everything around it and had been covered in dirt so it had just seen daylight recently after a very long dirt nap! Short sand beach, Oregon it passed the is it a bone test - porous / sticky it’s hard and would be very difficult to break it sounds like it’s got room for air inside When I was cleaning it, there was a very waxy substance in some of the thin cracks. It has this horizontal line but it’s not like a crack or a scratch so maybe part of a turtle scute? this round one is similar and was nearby if it means anything

Maybe it’s nothing but this rock bone thing is weird and I kept it in case it’s anything significant. I found it on the beach today in seaside, oregon. I found it high in the sand above the tide line in an area with tons of rocks. I can’t scratch anything off with my nail , it is porous. It’s not light like I would expect it to be if it were wood. Any ideas?

I have a couple fossils that I thought could were petrified wood. I found them around 15-20 years ago near sunset bay on the Southern Oregon Coast. They were both loose on the ground. My friend thinks that they look more like bone than wood, any thoughts? Thank you
