I found this shell at half moon bay in Northern California, It washed up on shore. Im pretty sure it’s a fossil - I’m wondering what type of shell it is, and possibly how old it could be? Any help would be much appreciated! Approx dimensions: L3” x W2.5” x H1.5”

Hi there! My partner took a trip to San Francisco and I asked him to bring me back a shell(I collect shells) and he comes home with this! I'm absolutely stumped! No idea what this could be. Input?

I have no knowledge of bones or fossils but i found this piece and it find it very interesting. I am hoping someone can shine light onto what it is. It was found on the beach, Playa de Murcielago in Manta, Ecuador on the Pacific Ocean. I think it is a fish mandible but from there i am lost. The entire thing is stone like. It is quite a bit heavier than bone and of consistent feel throughout except for the varying body textures. The color is quite a vivid salmon on the smoother outside with bend wrinkles you would expect on a living creature. (i sculpt and these wrinkles have been captured beautifully in this piece!) I know i probably sound pretty stupid with this description but this is not my area of expertise. I was just out on my daily morning dog walk:-)

Hi all. We found this on the rocky Pacific Ocean beaches about 50 miles south of Mendocino, CA. To my untrained eye it looks like a winged insect or perhaps scales. Or am I seeing what I want to see? The photos give dimension and one shot is 7X macro. Any thoughts or comments are always greatly appreciated!

Hello, I am new to the site, but I am a life long lover of all things nature. I found this little guy on the coast of California, most likely in San Simeon but possibly 30 minutes south, at Moonstone Beach. I found him about a year ago in August. He looks to be 6 1/2 centimeters. To forewarn everyone, I have little knowledge of history in terms of time periods, and am largely unfamiliar with geology as well such as rock types. I will describe as best I can per your requests. Please bear with me while I attempt to learn! Anyways, here he is. I believe him to be an ammonite but he has no spiral. Maybe a squid? Not even sure he is classified as a fossil, haha... Finally, thank you all so much for any and all responses, my scientific curiousity greatly appreciates it! Sincerely, Tyler North

Can someone please help me figure out what this is? I found it a couple days ago at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, California. I am not a fossil collector, I was just taking a walk, picking up shells and I came across it. I tried to get some idea by searching online. But, I couldn't find anything like it. TIA
