Hi all, My daughter very excitedly stumbled across the below on the 2008 Lyme slip. I was able to say I thought they were 8 paddle digits but wasn’t about to say much more (they seem very well preserved). Presumably they are ichthyosaur? Any additional info would be welcome from you kindly scholars!

Could these all be from 1 animal? Found these scattered about in Pierre shale but all within 50ft. Wonder if I should try to find the origin of where they are coming from. The paddle bone looked small compare to the verts. Would this be an adult? ID on parts would be helpful to. Thanks

I had a great half day at the North Sulphur River Texas before the rain got me. I found a mix of everything to include artifacts, Xiphactinus vert, swordfish tooth, coprolite, turtle shell, partially rooted mosasaur tooth, killer mosasaur paddle bone, Enchodus jaws, shark teeth and old toys. My buddy racked up on mosasaur verts.

I've often wondered as to the purpose of the tiny "claw" at the very tip of a eurypterid's swimming paddle. It's really very small and I can't imagine what it would be used for. It's not an anomaly as quite a few genera have them. Below are couple of pictures of one of my specimens, and just so you don't think me crazy and seeing things, there is also an illustration showing the feature. Any comments would be welcome. Tom

A cool Moroccan mosasaur bone pile I acquired, sadly the matrix is so soft the piece broke in transit, but thankfully the splits missed all but 1 smaller bone. I'm considering just removing them from the matrix, and maybe mounting them in the same positions again, but I haven't decided yet. *more info to follow -

I found this very small mosasaur bone (part of the paddle I assume), and it has a very small hole towards the top. This was found in the Cretaceous North Sulphur River of Ladonia, Texas. There have been a few discussions on other forums whether this is a natural or man-mad occurance. Has anyone else here ever found a mosasaur vertebrae or bone that has a near perfect hole in it? I’m very interested in how this occurred. Thank you for your input!

I found these single Ichthyosaur digits on separate hunts but from around the same location. I bet they're from the same beast judging by the size. One has a rib which looks super cool.- 3 comments
