Cool find and article on this recent discovery off of the CA coast. It was found while searching for rare species of jellyfish found 10,000 feet down, near a seamount. Perhaps Pleistocene would have been more appropriate for the time period? https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/22/science/mammoth-tusk-ocean.html I believe the NYT allows some number of free articles before a subscription is required. Sorry if this is not the case, or if you've already used up your allotment.

When I was gardening this past summer I lucked out and found a fossil. For years (this garden is over twenty years in the making) I have been pulling shale out of it. This was my first fossil. With the help of some good books on fossils, and this group I have come close to identifying this fossil. It is possibly a coral. I am interested to know what time period this fossil may have come from. I do know that my area of the east end of Toronto used to be an inland sea. I'm curious to know what it might be, and excited for what next year might have in store for me.

Hi guys, I found this and felt I should share and see what you think: Ancient Hand Axe? First, I was struck by the 'cutting edge', which seems used, and has radiating shock marks from the edge, inward. There also seems to be debris in the cutting area, one piece contains 2 small, thin inset hairs, light brown in color, which I've bagged. The ergonomics are amazing. The mass of the stone fits neatly in your hand, while there appear to be wear marks where your index finger and thumb might go. Also, when held in that manner, the cutting edge is parallel to your cutting surface.

Cant decide is natural processes could account for these etchings , if they have been recently done , or something man made and old The specimen rock was allegedly found in central minnesota near lake Minnetonka. It is 1 and 1/2 inches along the long axis and about 1 inch across Hoping for comments and ideally similar pics to support point of view Many thanks to all who take a look I guess the file was too big. It was taken with a cell phone camera Any ideas how to slim down a JPEG
