My husband and I like to go on walks along the wooded dirt trails behind our home. Last winter, we stumbled upon a particular stretch of path. It was constructed using refractory bricks smack dab in the middle of the woods. It wasn’t until recently when we decided to revisit the area. One does not simply stumble upon an old brick path in the middle of the woods. It had to have once led somewhere. We did, in fact, find an old stone well nearby. Hello, I like busting open local black shale to see what is inside. This is from the Eastern Panhandle in West Virginia. That is a pen in the picture to give perspective as to the size. I am finding a lot of Brachiopods in the same shale (you can see some of it in the picture) I am very new to hunting fossils, any groups local to Washington DC area? Thank you for checking out my shale.

I can't positively identify this. It would appear to be Sigillaria from the pictures I have pulled up but the backside looks like pine bark. It is very lightweight. Last pic is the backside.
