A couple years ago I got some fossils & a chunk of matrix from @Bone Daddy. The matrix was from the Gardner locality on the Peace River. I had picked at it off & on until I ended up with a hard block. Recently I soaked it in some water for a day, then let it dry some & started trying to break it up. I found some items that I'm not quite sure what to make of. The largest piece is 9 mm long x 6 mm at the widest & wedge shaped. The other 2 pieces were with it. Any idea's what I found? The pics are at 30 x magnification using a Dino-Lite w/ photo stacking.

The bone looks very slothish to me, but I’m unable to find an image of it. It has so many articulating surfaces on every aspect that I suspect it’s a carpal/tarsal from a small sloth. The overall size is 1.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches long. No damage at all, and pristine condition.

I found this tooth yesterday and thought bison right away. But it appears to be deformed and or broken so it caused me to doubt my ID. I would appreciate feedback on what others think. The crown of the tooth measures 12mm x 20 mm and is 10mm tall. Thanks!

After my fourth trip to the peace river here is my collection of my favorites. No close ups of any single teeth, but I’ve included a shot of four of my favorites. While I love the mammal teeth, my favorites are still shark teeth. It does amaze me the number of Meg pieces you can find. Its just a matter of time before a real nice one comes up in the sifter. That said, I never thought I’d find just piece of one, so overjoyed with what the river gave back. Not shown are the 700 plus other teeth that didn’t make the display.

I lucked into this beauty while excavating a limestone pit in the Peace river bed looking for Miocene invertebrates. Is there any chance of identifying it's species from the location found and the size? @Harry Pristis ?

Found this on the beach ( low tide ) at Manasota Key, Florida. This area is known for fossil shark teeth from the Peace River formation. Is this a fossil turtle, tortoise or a rock concretion? Thanks

Looking for some help with the ID on a tooth I pulled up from the Peace River, FL yesterday. On first glance in the sifter I thought it was a nice small chunk of a horse tooth (Equus sp.). When I got home and took a closer look it appeared to be the complete tooth minus 4 root extensions. The occlusal surface of the tooth was one I have not seen before. I tried to match it to Equus but kept coming up empty. I tried bovine with no luck either. From a close look at all four sides I do not believe it is broken and missing any of the crown.It well may be Equus, but I thought I would ask for input from those with much more knowledge and experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The occlusal surface measures 22 mm x 12 mm.

Had a great day out on the Peace up in the north section. I'm primarily a tooth seeker but welcome other rare finds. Luckily the river will sever up plenty of teeth for years to come. This was my first time out in my new canoe(previously used inflatable kayaks due to convenience in my Camry.) And it makes a world of difference especially when to 12 ft. dinos make the plunge from the bank. Anyways the water levels were perfect. We found a nice pit that looked to be previously bank dug...... and it caused some concern from passers by. We only encountered 2 groups on the river. One being Fred Mazza and a group of guided customers who went pretty well upstream from us. The others were just a senior couple enjoying the float. Fred expressed his distaste at the bank diggers and I can only assume he thought we were doing the same. LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR. If anyone can pass the word. That is scum of the earth behaviour. I'm a pretty conservative individual and I don't outstep what is written. And I certainly respect; demand respect from the farmers and local gov. out there that boarder the river. I go far out of my way to respect the land and laws. So much so that I won't even dig near a posted sign just to ensure that I cause no ill will between any parties. Which is why I can only hold my tongue is certain situations that I see on most of my trips. Here are the finds for the day. Might get one more trip in before the rain but if not.... i'll be updating with any land explorations. I'm planning on filling that juvenile meg with a silver plug. Let me know if you'd like to see that process!

So I found this piece while fossil hunting in the Peace River here in Florida. It immediately gave me the impression of a certain something, so I set aside. It just seemed out of place for where I found it, (for it to be a rock). I have an idea of what it may possibly be, but want to see what others have to say first.

I'm stumped on this one. I found this over the weekend while hunting in the Peace River in Southwest Florida. It looks like a horse tooth, yet it's too small/thin to be? (was thinking maybe it's just a fragment of a horse tooth, not sure how common that is though?). Or possibly a juvenile ground sloth tooth? I'm fairly new to fossil hunting so I'm still trying to learn in regards to the rarer finds.
