Need some help with these, but I think I know the answer already

I had two oddballs here. I don't think either can be authoritatively identified due to their incomplete nature and my chronically-subpar photos. But, I figured if anyone could ID them, that person is in this forum somewhere. So please have a look and let me know what you think. One appears to be part of a skull and the other is a tiny piece of jawbone. I thought the jaw was a shark tooth at first and then I noticed the teeth sockets. Maybe it's something small like a rat or pocket gopher? Any help would be appreciated.

I found this big bone chunk, but I am afraid it may lack sufficient diagnostic features to identify it. I thought I would let the forum look at it before I throw it into my garden. Any ideas about what this might be? It looks like a partial "end" piece of a larger bone. Judging from the size, the critter had to be pretty big. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay so found this very strange shark vert today. I think it’s shark, anyway. Doesn’t match any bony fish I know. But also doesn’t match any shark. Measures about an inch across and an inch long. @hemipristis @Al Dente @MarcoSr

While sorting through some of my more recent finds I came across this very small shark tooth I found. My initial thought was tiger, but it doesn’t seem to match any Galeocerdo species I know of, nor does it match P. Contortus. Any help would be appreciated! @hemipristis @Al Dente @MarcoSr

On a recent trip to the Peace River, I came across these two finds. Pretty sure the brown tooth is Capybara. The black tooth, I am stumped. Any help is most appreciated.

I had not been in the Peace River for a month. Cool weather, had covid which made me weak, busy with other responsibilities. I went with two friends. The River is very low, clear in most spots. We chose to go back to a place where we had found a lot of pretty black on black Megs 5-6 years ago. Also had Mammoth and Mastodon fossils. One of us found just a few little shark teeth, a marble, and a beat up Llama tooth. Another found LOTS of little shark teeth and 2 or 3 distressed Megs. Great day, Sunshine , good friends , cool water. I could hear a Hoot Owl in mid afternoon. Here are my finds, some interesting, I kept thining that I would find a complete meg 2-2.5 inches... there were lots of pieces, but it never happened. That resembles a Hubble Meg. So, 2 plates of Mammoth, a chunk of Mastodon and I am thinking Mammoth leg bone but one friend suggested Vert. Picked it off the bottom in 2 feet of water..There is a very small toe bone, I'll try to ID in a week or so. A shiny Equus lower right m3 about 30 mm which seems small for an Equus m3. A piece of Ray mouthplace, and a VERY warn dolphin petrosal. Just sharing the day , showing some finds. This location has had a lot of hunting activity and it is not easy to find fossils. The Peace river is an old friend and always seems to welcome me back with a fossil or two. One friend had a great find a week back.. He agreed to let me post a photo on TFF. Very special version of a rare fossil. Enjoy.

It has been a while since I’ve needed this many things ID’d! So found something I’m pretty sure is a mammoth carpal or tarsal bone (Or a toe? I really don’t know), a piece of… coral, maybe? And 2 limb bones. 1) Mammoth carpal/tarsal or toe - measures 6”x3.5”x2.5” or 150mmx90mmx63mm A video to show it better is at the end. So this past weekend was another very successful weekend. Didn’t have quite the volume of finds, but the things I did find… So starting off… found in 2 pieces and put back together with epoxy - a lower left M3 Columbian Mammoth molar: Following that with 2 chunks of the lower right molar and a chunk from one of the uppers - all found within a ~8 foot circle: A 2” long, the biggest I’ve ever found, gator tooth, 2 other smaller gator teeth, and a decent gator osteoderm: 13 Glyptodon and 2 Holmesina Osteoderms: Megs - including one 2.1” gorgeous Meg: 1 lower Equus tooth, 1 broken 3-toed tooth, the tip of a capybara incisor, and an Equus carpal/tarsal bone: And finally - a Dugong thoracic vert, a camelid sacrum, and 2 small mammal verts: Can’t wait to get back out this weekend and find even more!

Another find from the Peace River, FL last week. Upon first look I thought it was a very worn Tapir tooth. When I got it home I started to think the center was too hollowed out to be Tapir. Searching on line and in the Forum galleries I got the idea it might be Manatee or Dugong. I keep going back and forth between Tapir and Manatee so finally decided to get opinions from the group here. Measurements of crown: 1" x 7/8" x 6/8" (at highest point) or 23mm x 21mm x 17mm This first view is what has me thinking Manatee or Dugong Then this one has me leaning to Tapir Last two views: All opinions are appreciated. Good afternoon everyone! This is a tooth that my girlfriend found while sifting in the river and we aren't quite sure what type of tooth it is so any help would be greatly appreciated. I am pretty sure that is it mammal and I want to assume that it is carnivore since it doesn't seem like a grinding surface.

Hello everyone, Last weekend @Pooch and I headed to the river to try to dive it for the first time and I think it went really well. We really had no idea where to go so after searching the forum for a while and giving it our best shot we decided to go for it. It was a great day of finding teeth and dragging scuba gear around. It took us quite a while to find a spot we thought had potential but end the end it was a great time. Here are pictures of some of the nicer teeth that I found that day. We ended up finding a ton of Tiger's and Himi's and @Pooch found 2 full megs and sadly I only found frags.

So, had planned to hit the Peace River yesterday for the first time this season. I set my alarm for 6:30am and loaded up the truck. Went to sleep dreaming of the river. ALARM BLARES! WAKE UP! TIME TO DRINK COFFEE AND GET READY! WOO-HOO! WAIT. Something is wrong. THE ALARM WON'T TURN OFF. PANIC. ADRENALINE. CONFUSION. HALF-AWAKE FUMBLING. ALARM CONTINUES TO BLARE. NOW WIDE AWAKE. ALARM APP FREEZES and PHONE FREEZES, WHILE ALARM BLARES. TURN OFF PHONE TO SILENCE THE ALARM. Relief that the loud alarm has been silenced. Look at the clock on wall. 4:30AM.....!!!!! WTF? The alarm went off two hours early. Phone reboots, double-check the alarm time, it was correctly set to 6:30am, but for some unknown reason it went off at 4:30am. I need more sleep than this to hunt the river, so now the Peace trip is canceled. 4:30am is a little too early for me to "just stay up" and I desperately needed that extra 2-hours of sleep. Due to anger, confusion, and adrenaline making me WIDE AWAKE, it takes me a full hour to fall back asleep. Wake up at 8:30am, ticked off about the alarm fiasco, and the truck is still loaded up. After a quick discussion with the wife, we decide to salvage the day and take a paddling trip closer to home. So, we hit the Chassahowitzka river and spent the day having a lovely paddle and a picnic lunch. Ended up making lemonade from lemons, and we had a nice day on the river......just without any fossil-hunting. Peace River will have to wait until next week. Hell or highwater, my kayak get wet in the Peace next week. Thanks for reading my mini-rant. LOL.

Found this digging in Peace River, central Florida. I wondered if it could be coprolite, but if it is I was wondering from what animal. Any information would be appreciated. Other finds from the same area included dugong bone, turtle shell, mammal teeth (bison, tapir, horse), armadillo scute, and lots of shark teeth.

I found these fossils in the peace river last summer and was going through them again today, but I cannot figure out what species these fossils come from.

I hardly ever go out on Weekends, because it takes away the perception of solitude. But today ,made an exception... Showing off a couple of finds, and asking a couple of questions... 1st is a lower left Equus tooth, likely the m1 or m2. Equus is pretty common in the Peace River. This one is pretty small at 24 mm APL. Question:... What is you smallest APL for an Equus tooth? 2nd is a P. mirifica about the same size as the Equus tooth. Blowup of enamel.... Question. What has happened with this tooth? Is that sparkly stuff druzy? On the lower left enamel, looks like HSBs ... but HSBs do not occur in Camelids.. So what are those slanting lines? Here is an example of Hunter_Schreger Bands (HSBs) in Rhino teeth..

Went out Monday, going back out tomorrow. My last find of the day was a bear premolar. I have posted a thread http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/130052-maybe-bear/&tab=comments#comment-1405238 But needed more time to sort, take photos, etc We had gone to a spot on the Peace River that we had hunted numerous times before, knew every curve and straightaway, where we found gravel and how deep.. Sometimes it pays to go home again. We had a hurricane that moved LOTS of sand and gravel , and some of that came from the banks, and rearranged it down the riverbed. We were basically prospecting for new gravel on top and returning to deep holes. Just small teeth early, then found a stretch of more productive gravel on top... So, 4 armadillo osteoerms, a couple of Equus teeth, 3 tillybones, 3 gator teeth, chunk of ivory, bunch of small shark teeth.. There were some odd finds... a couple of sponges... when did we last have sponges in the Peace River.... Should I search for an ID on this sponge ? Were there many different kinds and shapes? I also found almost a a perfect end of a dolphin vert, but most of it had disintegrated. ... strange. I pay a lot of attention to texture.... This has got to be bone , maybe hoof core.... the "bone" is shaped and curving from top to point,, and has channels, maybe for blood vessels.... I rarely toss anything that I don't understand I only bone I have seen that reminds me of this.... curving bones layers, blood vessels... Sloth claw is a possibility... there may be others... There were many others.... That's a wrap... 5am is coming fast. Looking forward to the hunt.

I was out most of the day hunting the Peace River...It was a gorgeous day, getting warmer. My success started slow but picked up at the end.. I will need another thread for displaying the finds, but tomorrow maybe.. I was very pleased with this. I have only a few bear fossils. When I got home , I started searching... Not too many photos on the Internet of this tooth and I noted that few of the photos identified the tooth position ( lower, left m1) for example. This looks like bear, maybe an upper right P4 of Ursus Americanus.... but I am really guessing and need some confirmation. On the loss of enamel, is that natural or post mortem? So one of my very first few trips out, I found what I had originally thought was a piece of enamel from some tooth or something, and nearly a year later, that was my assumption… until my friend asks me for his opinion on something which turns out to be near-identical, found in pretty much the same area. I’m thinking fish tooth, but I might be way off. @Al Dente @hemipristis @Shellseeker @Harry Pristis any ideas? Mine: My friends:

With the Peace River water depth coming down, and easing on the cooler temperatures. I was out hunting Wednesday, Friday, Sunday... basically checking various locations. It was a little cool, so I wore a 5 mm wetsuit. There were numerous places waist deep with some gravel.. A newer layer had moved in with small colored teeth, but almost everything we found were marine fossils and not very numerous. But there are always some interesting finds. A few were larger, some even complete There were a couple of types of urchin spines , one much more common than the other, Then some shell material transformed to silica... This last one had a silica cave complete with Botryoidal Chalcedony globes. Finally, a tooth, more likely Croc than gator.... All sorts of little treasures....

My thoughts were crocodile or porpoise Item 2: some sort of claw but I’m unsure what kind Item 3: Camel canine? item 4: some sort of vertebra Help is very much appreciated, thank you very much!

So doing a culmination of my last couple trips out - and the fossil gods were benevolent these past trips! Found my first and second bison teeth, a rhino astragalus, a decently sized, very pretty Meg, and a bunch of other things! So without further ado: Starting off with the shark’s teeth - 2.3” Meg, tiny little posterior Meg, and a pathological Carcharhinus tooth: The bison teeth - both 4th premolars, but one is an upper (left), and one is a lower (right): The rhino astragalus: 2 Horse teeth, tapir tooth crown, rodent incisor, fish jaw, and an orange burr fish mouthplate: Gator teeth, an orange Croc tooth, 2 gator osteoderms, and 2 gator verts (Tail, I think?): 1 Holmesina osteoderm, 1 Juvenile glyptodon, 2 broken glyptodon, 1 Dasypus Bellus flex osteoderm, and 1 Dasypus novemectus flex osteoderm: Big chunk of mammoth tooth: And the rest of my finds minus the shark teeth - including a hawk claw core, an unknown claw core, a toe bone, cetacean ear bones, mammoth frags, and some other stuff: Overall I had some awesome finds, and I know there’s gonna be plenty more where that came from!

Hello everyone, I have gotten really into meg diving this last year to the point where I am driving down to Venice from Orlando twice a month to dive for teeth. I have started to look into getting black water diving and I am not really sure where to start. Does anyone have any rivers that are good for black water diving? I have heard talk that people do it in the Peace river and the St. Marys and I didn't know if that is where most people go or if there are other rivers people dive that hold a good amount of teeth. I don't want to sound like the guy who is asking for your super secret spots but I'm just trying to find out where I should start to get into this. If anyone does black water diving and ever needs someone to go with I would be very interested in going with you and I would certainly throw in for gas money. I also have my own boat so we cold take it out also if that is an issue you have. Thank you for any information you can give me, Parker
