I had a friend ask me what this fossil that she found in the Montour Fossil Pit yesterday was and I am unsure. It looks to me like a Bactrite or other strait-shelled cephalopod but I am not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I am currently a sophomore at Swarthmore college (small liberal arts school just outside Philly) and recently I actually founded a fossil hunting club which organizes trips roughly once a month to some relatively nearby fossil locations. Last month we went to purse state park and we were quite successful with everyone finding plenty of shark teeth and other cool finds. For our next trip we are planning to go to the Montour Fossil Pit as that seems like the next logical step. Now I have never been there but I have been to several similar locations and consider myself to be at least somew

I found this rock when i went to an old triassic quarry where footprints have been found. did not find any footprints, found some little hollow molds of shrimp like creatures (malocostraca- phyllocarids?) ( orange is the impression of the hollow) and a couple of these cow pat shaped rocks. Is it just geological?

On my first visit to the Montour Preserve Fossil Pit in Danville, Pennslyvania I found this. Devonian Shale. Fossil is 1" across at it's base. Bottom of a coral? The two holes/tubes have me puzzled. Thanks in advance for any feedback. Robert
