    Xiphosuran? Warren County, PA

Hello, everyone! I recently collected at a site in Warren County, at an exposure of Venango Formation (L. Devonian, ~363 ma) Riceville Formation (L. Dev. ~359 ma) Shenango Formation (E. Mississippian, ~357 ma) and potentially Chadakoin Formation (L. Dev. 365 ma). The Venango and the Chadakoin are hard to differentiate in that area. I found plants from the Shenango and numerous brachiopods, a bivalve, and worm traces from the Venango and possibly the Chadakoin. Here's another mystery. In observing the fossil, it seems like a xiphosuran, perhaps Patesia randalli (Bicknell and Smith, 2021), which is recorded from both the Venango and Chadakoin. Patesia was formerly referred to as "Kasibelinurus" randalli and "Bellinurus" alleganyensis. But any information or insight is appreciated!
  2. Found this specimen when hunting just outside Danville, PA in a roadcut near the Susquehanna river. This is from the same visit as my previous post. The location is Trimmers Rock formation. My best guess is Leiorhynchus but I'm pretty stumped on this one.

Trimmers Rock finds from Danville PA

Found these specimens when hunting just outside Danville, PA in a roadcut near the Susquehanna river. The location is Trimmers Rock formation. I'm fairly certain that these are brachiopods but I haven't been able to ID them with any certainty. Mainly at that site we find beautiful Mucrospirifer specimens. However, these specimens appear larger and don't, to me, seem to be Mucrospifier. Most of the research I've done has yielded IDs that seem to be typically smaller than what I found. The first image shows the two parts together, the second shows them side by side with the top piece flipped over, the third shows the bottom piece and the fourth shows the top piece. My best guess is Leiorhynchus.

    Brittle star? - Hamilton Gp

I found this a few years ago, 2021 or so. Anybody know if this is an brittle star or something else? The supposed brittle star is attached to a brachiopod. Location found is Suedberg, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Hamilton Group, probably Mahantango Formation. In this image you can see on the lower left side of the brachiopod a hole made by boring- may or may not be the work of the potential brittle star. In the above image as well you can make out where some of the arms are, though the image is bad quality. In the next image it is somewhat easier to see the individual arms- I had much better lighting. I can take more pictures if requested.
  18. I found this specimen in a dried creek-bed in Pennsylvania, USA. I previously found beautiful petrified wood pieces in the same exact spot (I assume they are petrified wood based on some research I did). The matrix of this specimen has similarities to some of the petrified wood pieces I came across while exploring that creek-bed. From my untrained eye, it looks like tiny creatures latched onto this wood before petrification. There appears to be 3 of the same species all sitting closely together. One of the three looks like it was cut in half at some point and now displays a perfect cross section...possibly of its nervous system...?! There are lines trailing behind the circles (for lack of better words), giving the appearance of tentacles or antennas of some sort? Eusthenodon bourdoni

Diagnosis—Tristichopterid sarcopterygian referable to Eusthenodon and differing from the type species by the combination of: (1) a lack of contact between posterior supraorbital and lacrimal such that the jugal contributes to the orbital margin, and (2) contact between posterior supraorbital and intertemporal in dermal view. Downs, J. P., J. Barbosa, and E. B. Daeschler. 2021. A new species of Eusthenodon (Sarcopterygii, Tristichopteridae) from the Upper Devonian (Famennian) of Pennsylvania, U.S.A., and a review of Eusthenodon taxonomy. Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology.

    Pennsylvania talon print?

A short while ago I posted similar pictures of what I think is a talon print. Someone asked what type of stone it was in so I posted pictures. I found this in Clearfield county PA.

    Reptile skin?

Any ideas? My first thought was reptile dermis but probably more like some kind of fan plant closed up. Clearfield County PA.
  23. Hello everyone So recently I’ve been studying up on Catskill formation sites in Pennsylvania. Many of these sites are exposures along highways, and I was wondering how I should go about collecting at them. Is it legal to collect along highways in PA? Can I park on the highway if there’s plenty of room or should I find an off ramp/side road to park along? Thanks for the help! Owen
  24. I was just collecting out at the Ambridge site over the weekend and among the hundreds of ferns I found, I pulled out this piece which appears to be rolled up one. It especially seems like a fern given that there’s a Calamites stem just to the bottom right. I posted on the Reddit fossil ID forum and people are saying it’s a goniatite but I’m really not seeing it and I also can’t find anything online saying something like that would even be there. I would love some insight as to what it could be regardless, because I’ve been to this site a few times now and haven’t found something like this before so it’s probably pretty rare regardless.
