When I was in South Africa on holiday earlier this year I had a fantastic bbq made with Camelthorn / Kameeldoring wood. Have found a company in the UK that imports it. Was discussing with a friend who mentioned that when the wood is exported from SA, he would imagine it is treated / sprayed with some sort of chemical to meet customs import requirements of the UK. Not sure how safe it would be to cook food on an open fire with this wood? Any thoughts? I have tried using local wood, but it isn't as hard, so doesn't produce the same sort of long lasting coals, nor is the wood flavoured as good as the SA wood.
