Hi, I have only used my iPhone for fossils so far. I love the instant gratification of shoot, edit, post. But I need a bit more magnification and certainly better resolution. I would like to have nice magnification to look for small fossils, say Ostracods and conodonts, so if i can solve both issues with one tool, that would be great. Just say I want good resolution down to 1 mm or so. at least. Here is my immediate issue. I want clear resolution of the small parts of this 1 cm fossil. What do you suggest? I'm not made of money, but will get what I need.

I saw some embedded videos in another post so, I thought I should test adding a prep time lapse just to see if I can get it to work. IMG_1771.mov

How can I combine photos from the negative and positive side of a fossil?
oilshale posted a topic in Questions & Answers
I have the positive and negative side of a fossil. Unfortunately, something is missing on the two slabs in different spots. How can I combine photos from the negative and the positive side so that the photos complement each other and the new photo shows the illusion of a complete fossil? I have Photoshop CS4 (but have little idea of the possibilities). -
Hi all As you probably know I have really been interested lately in macro photography. Let’s see any of your wonderful fossil adventures in close up. Today I found this little beauty a shark tooth (I have not ID it yet but it could be Negaprion lemon shark tooth) form Rattlesnake Creek micro matrix I was sent. It is only about 3mm but a Bobby dazzler. Looking forward to seeing some of your very interesting pictures.

Hey all! New to the site, found this while kayaking over the weekend in the Santa Fe River, near Rum Springs Park launch, upriver a bit, it was just down from a smaller spring boil, off the side of the main river way. Any idea of what it is? At first I was alarmed, then upon closer inspection, realized it probably belonged to an animal. Thanks in advance for the help!

I would like to have a visual confirmation but kourisodon tooth pictures are rare. If you do own a kourisodon tooth in your collection, could you please send me photos of this tooth? New Horizons flew by Ultima Thule yesterday and the pictures are starting to show up. Pretty cool, it is a contact binary object. I'm totally geeking out right now. http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/Galleries/Featured-Images/image.php?page=1&gallery_id=2&image_id=577

What is the name of those cubes with measurements on them?
JohnBrian posted a topic in Questions & Answers
What are those cubes with measurements on them called? I looked at various subforums but didn't see any of them listed and since I don't know their name I can't really search for them! -
I've always been an avid rock hound and science nerd, collecting odd looking rocks throughout my life. It wasn't until I moved to Montana that I looked forward to searching for unique rocks, gems, fossils and things of the like. I have acquired a chunk of multi-layer fossils and what I think is petrified wood and need some guidance as to the procedure to upload these photos. Thanks in advance for any and all help, it's great to know this is available!

I came across an article today on using a printer scanner to image shark teeth. It worked well for the labial side (relatively flat). However, the lingual side was less than satisfactory. Have any of you used this method of imaging teeth, and do any of you have tips on getting good images for the lingual side? Thanks, Carson

Help! - How To Whitening Fossils With Ammonium Chloride
Sylvestersen posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Hi Does anyone have any practical experience of how to whitening fossils with ammonium chloride. The technique I wish to lear more about is the one where the fossilis is covered with chloride smoke. This coating should eliminates reflections, translucency and color variations, and easily removed by simply blowing on it.- 5 replies
