    Isle of Wight plant material

Could anyone help me identify this plant material from the terrestrial Wealden Cretaceous of the Isle of Wight. Found east of brook bay in a plant debris bed. It’s about 2cm and has an odd spikey structure I haven’t seen before. Not like the pine cones commonly found around here. it looks to be a fragment of whatever it is.

    Carboniferous plants

Hi, i've found plant fossils on a Carboniferous site in the Aspe valley, near Etsaut. I thought those could be sigillariae. What do you think ? Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 Item 4, here i think i have some calamites, my question is more about what is seen at the upper left corner, calamites too ?
  12. One of the nice things about collecting Mazon Creek concretions is that most specimens don't require any prep - they open up and are good to go. This however was not one of those cases. This concretion exploded during freeze thaw last year into hundreds of pieces, and on most pieces the fossils were still covered by sections of shale. It took around 25 hours in total to reassemble the concretion and prep out what wasn't exposed. Big thanks to Kris @Ptychodus04 for helping to finish the prep work. This is a large frond of the rare fern Mariopteris nervosa. And if that wasn't enough, there was a second layer to this concretion, containing more plants and an opisthosoma of the horseshoe crab Euproops danae. A lot more work than is usually necessary, but well worth it in the end.

    Possible Fossil Ohio

Unknown possible fossil found with Ohio glacier gravel. Can anyone tell me if this is a fossil/imprint or just a weird rock formation. The swirl goes up to the top, very strange! Thank you!

What are these 'stalks' on this geode?

Hi all, I found this chalcedony geode on the Nordmany coastline. After later inspection i found these 'stalks' all over the geode, i assume it's a plant fossil. Could anybody tell me exactly what it is? They are quite small, the one in the second picture is 1 cm long. Thanks in advance!

    Unusual Carboniferous Plant Fossil

Howdy! This specimen comes from the Pennsylvanian Period, Conemaugh Group, Glenshaw Formation, in the Mason Shales below Brush Creek Limestone. The area has a lot of Pecopteroids, Neuropteroids and Calamites. However, I've been informed that it is not Calamites. I should also note that this piece was part of a larger fossil cast that was crumbling apart when I found it, and unfortunately, I was unable to save the rest of it. The last picture is the back side. All help is appreciated and thanks in advance!

    Petrified wood nugget

Hi, I’m new here, just posting a couple of recent finds from a recent trip to the surf coast in Victoria, Australia. This one I believe to be a nugget of petrified wood, found embedded in a cliff shelf sedimentary layer above volcanic basalt (from an eruption previously dated to 26Mya). I can see clear wood grain (I think), so pretty confident this one is petrified wood, but would appreciate any comments/suggestions! A lot of the fossils in the surrounding layers are echinoids and brachiopods, so I am guessing fossilized driftwood? the object is hard and smooth to the touch, much heavier than wood. I have cleaned it up a bit, removing sedimentary material and some black gunk on the surface (still some visible). Cheers, Oli

fossil of skin, plant, or coral?

New member here. I have aquired a few fossils over the years that I need help with. This is the first one. I found it while digging in a yard in Tuscola County, Michigan. It is 3cm high and 2 1/2cm. Two sides are 1cm thick. The other two sides are 1/2cm thick. There's a chip in it that exposes the white portion.
