    Mystery Carboniferous Fossil

I found this rock in North Attleboro. Massachusetts. It has what I assume is a fossil on it. My best guess would be a seed of some kind but the small circular thing to the right of it is throwing me off. I am away from home right now so I have nothing great to scale it with. The box is roughly 2 inches (5 cm) long to give a sense of scale. I will try to get better pictures when I get back if necessary.
  2. Hi everyone, New here! I recently found these a few weeks ago in the Badlands of Eastern Montana, in what I believe would be 'Hell Creek' formation. For clarities sake, my knowledge level is very low, and I'm not looking to sell anything. I hope the photos aren't too confusing visually. The posted photos are of 2 ea. fossils. I found these at the bottom of a canyon while out on a hike. They weren't poking out of deposit per se, but were rather tumbling down the drainage out of a hill side/feature. There were quite a few more pieces laying around where I found these. They are very heavy, hard, and have the feel and 'ring' of fired clay/ceramic. Also, both of them are two-sided, interestingly, as if they are the remains of something that was sort of piled up - or maybe 2-sided indeed. I did some googling and found nothing that resembles them. I did actually join today to get some help in IDing these form all you folks, but this is a VERY cool forum and, I think I will enjoy spending a bit of time here. Thanks a lot for any knowlege that is offered up. Your help is much appreciated! Rod

    Mineral or vegetable?

Location: Greece, Crete, Chania coast (NW Crete) Context: beach, among diverse rocks Date found: July 2023 Size: 4,5 cm * 4 cm * 1 cm Our imagination is running wild with this one. Please help with identification! //Piranhas

    Unknown West Texas Fossil

Found this on West Texas near Terlingua. Any ideas on what it is? Thanks.
  5. Found this in a dry riverbed downstream from a waterfall and next to an active stream. Near Mt. Baker in Whatcom County, Washington. Other plant fossils were in the area. Think it might be a partial fossil of a large palm frond or leaf, but I have no idea. If anyone can help identify I would appreciate it; it's really stumping me. Let me know if any additional information or pictures are needed. Thanks.

    Help with identifying (plant) fossil

Hello, I found this imprint/mold of what I think is a plant. It was found in France in a dry part of the river Gap. The rock is fragile, I can break it with my hands. Curious to find out your opinions!

    Please ID

Hello, could you please help me identify it? It was found on a trail in mountains, somewhere around here: Jaworzyna Krynicka (Western Carpathian Mountains). I think it is a kind of plant. The imprint is visible only on one side of the rock, rest is completely uninteresting. I guess most of you is from USA, so I'd add that ruler is in cm so the "stem" is about 8cm = 3.15 inch

    And yet another oddity.....

this one is really odd it is almost plant like in texture when viewed under microscope (pics included) the texture follows the curves of the fossil looking almost like hair under the microscope...sorry only way I could describe it .... It has a dark area along with what look like leafy or hairy parts on it.

    Fossil or not?

Hi everyone, I am very new to this and have an extremely vivid imagination so please bear with me I found this piece of limestone in lighting ridge Australia and I can't help but see what looks to be a palm leaf shape imprinted into it and on closer examination it looks like a small feather imprint also. I hope my images are helpful. Ready to be told it's just a rock
  14. One is pyritized and I have no clue what it is. The other I’m thinking is a plant? Found alongside loads of crinoids

    Help with ID

Hello. My family found this on the beach in southern Oregon. We’re wondering what this fossil might be? It has texture to it that you can feel. And it’s pretty, my daughter described it as being lacy, almost like crochet stitches.

    Pyrite dimples with fossilised wood

Another find from Saltwick Bay, this time very recent. I'm guessing that the main chunk is fossilised wood of some sort, but I'm stumped by the small (~1cm diameter) patch of pyrite that exhibits very regular dimples (see images 1 & 2). Any ideas?

    Marine fossil ID

We were walking along the beach to the north shore light house on block island (part of Rhode Island). I picked up several really cool rocks but this one is the best. I think it is a plant fossil but could not find anything close online. It also has sparkly metallic or crystal content throughout. Any ideas what this is?
  19. Hi all! I found this rock with many fairly well preserved plant fossils in it. It's from the Kvamshest-basin in western Norway, deposited about 380 ish Mya. Does anyone here know what kind of plants they are?

    Identification needed

On the large rock, the fourth picture jpg 142641 has gash marks, equal size, there are also depression around each gash mark. I am new to this stuff, but with all my searching I have yet to come up with a answer. Is is a fossil organ with claw marks? The outer and inner appearance are unlike rocks I have seen. My last rock (rectangular) I also have not had any luck with identification. The big rock was found in southeast Idaho, the rectangular rock was found in Succor Creek. I am guessing a plant but would love some feedback! Thank you!

    Criss cross lined fossil?

Found this on the beach in Lewes, DE. It's 3cm long, 0.5cm thick and 2cm at the wider end. The lines are raised. Curious if it is some sort of plant fossil. Thanks for any help in identifying!

    Radius lined fossil?

My son found this on the beach in Lewes, Delaware. It is a little over 1.5 cm long and 1 cm both wide and deep. Maybe it's a cool rock but it sort of seems shell like on the side. Appreciate any help!
