Hi, Just wanted confirmation about whether this tooth from Morocco is Pliosaur or Polycotylid. The crown is somewhat small, but there are still striations on it. I lean towards Pliosaur but I'm not 100% sure at this point. Thank you!

Hi, I wanted to ask about this marine reptile tooth from the Oxford Clay in England. The seller has listed it as a Pliosaur tooth belonging to the species Simolestes Vorax, and I wanted to check the id. Thanks in advance!

I was able to obtain a couple of fossils found on the western coast line of France. The first one is presumably a piece of paddle bone from the upper tithonian, found between Wimereux and Cap de la Crèche. It measures about 220 x 160 x 65mm. Very heavy. The second is a vertebra found between Cap d'Alprech and Equihen (Tithonian). Measuring about 80 x 65 x 35mm. Could these be pliosaur or rather plesiosaur fossils? I'm sure they are too worn to identify better than sp.? Thanx for notes!

This fossil is in my collection for a while now. It is a quite heavy propodial found in Weymouth, Dorset, UK. It measures about 27cm in length. It's 12cm wide at the end, 6cm wide at the start. The centre part is 5 to 6 cm thick. I suppose it is Pliosaur (Stretosaur?), but it might be Plesiosaur instead? Thanx for opinions!

Hi, I wanted to ask if this is an Ichthyosaur tooth? or whether it could be Pliosaur instead? it comes from Cambridgeshire in the UK and is 5.7cm in length. The seller listed it as an Ichthyosaur tooth, but to me it looks more Pliosaur due to the striations, size and how robust the tooth looks. I'm hoping I can get some confirmation about what it could belong to. Thanks!

Hey fossil friends. I found this worn vertebra earlier in the year When forum member @DanJeavs prepared this for me it revealed a very rare find for the Whitby coast. It is either a Plesiosaur or Pliosaur backbone. Anybody know what the difference is?

Hi, I feel this is a silly question to ask, since I should know by now how to identify Pliosaur teeth, and I am mostly certain this in indeed a Pliosaur tooth but anytime I am going to spend plenty of money on a fossil, I feel like I should just spend a minute making a thread on this forum just to confirm. The tooth is 4cm in length & comes from the Akrabou Formation in Morocco (a little bit of restoration on one side which the seller has made clear about). Thank you!

Hi, I'm very new to this and have had a couple of trips to Aust cliff uk recently. I hadn't really found much but today I found this tooth/bone? I have tried a little of my own research and have hit a dead end. I think it may be ichthysaur but I'm not sure if it's a bone or a rather long thin tooth. Hi all, here are more pliosaur teeth questions from me.. these are from the Asfla Goulmima Morroco Cretaceouds turonien. I'm fairly certain the stubby one is pliosaur but seeing as I've been mistaken more than once, I'd like to ask here. I think the slender is plesiosaur, but again.. I'd like for people with more knowledge than me to pitch in

Pliosaur & Mosasaur Tooth Collection from Central Texas

Attached are pictures of my collection of four isolated teeth from Travis County, Texas with limited identifications. I am not an expert on pliosaurs, plesiosaurs, or mosasaurs. I just know fairly accurately in which member of a specific formation I found these teeth. All of these were located in or near a shell hash layer associated with oyster fragments, Ptychodus, or other regular shark's teeth. (1) 10/2/2017 - Upper South Bosque - ~91 mya - first picture (as cleaned). (2) 6/15/2018 - Lower Bouldin Flags - ~95 Mya - first picture (as found), second picture (display). (3) 10/28/2018 - Lower Bouldin Flags - ~95 Mya - first picture (as found), second picture (as cleaned). Pliosaur tooth, or ophthalmosaurid ichthyosaur (Stary Oskol)

Hi all, First off, this is not my fossil (though I own a large crow of similar morphology), but one I recently bumped into and found particularly curious. Why? Because it's morphology seems to contradict itself. Described as a Polyptychodon interuptus (no longer considered a valid genus; Madzia [2016]) from the Late Jurassic Volga Beds (?) of Stary Oskol, the tooth appears to have enamel folds consistent with what one might expect from an ophthalmosaurid ichthyosaur, such as Platypterygius sp.. The root, however, is smooth and round, with a hollow base, which, unlike the rectangular and "fibrous" roots more typical of ophthalmosaurid ichthyosaurs, is more indicative of pliosaur. Here are some pictures of the tooth. Unfortunately, as it was sold off by auction back in 2017, there's no chance of getting any better quality photographs: I know the seller is quite familiar with pliosaur teeth, so would be surprised if they identified the tooth wrongly. The ornamentation on the tooth, however, bugs me as not matching what I would expect for pliosaur, especially a brachauchenine species. Below are a schematics illustrating various tooth crown ornamentations amongst marine reptiles (figure 2 from McCurry et al. [2019]) and some examples of British brachauchenine pliosaur teeth (figures 3, 4, 5 and 6 from Madzia [2016]) for comparison. Tooth ornamentation in marine reptiles: A. Deinosuchus rugosus; B. Spinosaurus; C. Ichthyosaurus; D. Pliosauridae indet.; E. Globidens alabamensis; F. Hydrurga leptonyx; G. Mammalodontidae indet. Here's the only confirmed Stary Oskol pliosaur tooth I've been able to find as a reference for how the above translates to that location (source): And, finally, for completeness, some Stary Oskol platypterygiine ichthyosaur teeth: My questions to you are: Does this look like an ichthyosaur or pliosaur tooth to you, and why? I've heard, by word of mouth (i.e., got from a source that's not academic), that certain late ophthalmosaurid species developed root tooth roots. Can anybody confirm or deny this, if possible with academic reference? Hi everyone I came across this box of marine reptile teeth from: Age 200 million/Rhaetic bone bed. I don't have the measurements of the fossils unfortunately, but do anyone see plesiosaur and ichthyosaur teeth here? I'd love it if there's pliosaur but probably not..

Hi everyone I came across these teeth on our favorite site. It's listed as plesiosaur and ichthyosaur, but could the plesiosaur be a pliosaur tooth? The ridges are quite pronounced.. The teeth in this set were both found in the Seversk Sandstone in Belgorod, Kursk, Russia

Hi all, I've been offered these two teeth that I've been told are pliosaur teeth. They're from Morocco. They must have a fair amount of repairs due to the glued matrix and cracks etc, but do they look legitimate? The shape looks like pliosaur to me
