    Megalodon or Chubutensis

I found this tooth and I'm with some doubts in this identification. My guess goes to Chubutensis but i'am not certain. Tooth "in situ": Removed in matrix: After preparation: Thanks Filipe
  6. Hello dear fossil-hunters! So here is the report that a few of you have been waiting for: my trip to the Formação dos Olhos de Ãgua! So after a nice breakfast in the sun, we took the car from Vale do Lobo to Albufeira, another coastal city in the Algarve of Portugal. After just a bit of searching, we found a good parking spot for our car. We walked down towards the beach, Praia de Oura, and were amazed by the magnificent view.
  7. Hi everyone! I am currently enjoying some very pleasant holidays in the Vale do Lobo, near Faro in Portugal. My family and I were wondering what some good fossil locations nearby were; Filipe ( @Vieira ), has recommended the beach between Albufeira and Lagos, called the "Formação dos Olhos de Ãgua". Unfortunately he has never gone there before, and therefore did not know everything about the location. What he knew about the location was this: the finds are from the Miocene period and include: shark teeth, marine mammal bones and sea urchins. So does anyone know more information about the site, like what spots are the best, what are the better techniques (e.g.: sieving, looking near the water or more in the dunes/cliffs, etc) and also what you found. So if any of you have ever gone there, please give me any info/tips you have. And pictures would be great too! Also, if you know any other cool locations nearby, please tell me! Best regards and nice holidays to all of you, Max

  10. Hello While I wait anxiously for the "Secret Santa" I want to propose a "Portuguese pack" to trade. I will put in the box some vertebrates and invertebrates from a Miocene formation in Portugal. The fossils are: 2 different bivalves; 1 Schizaster sp.; 1 unprepared crab; 1 gastropod; 1 cetacean vertebras (worn by the sea) and some shark teeth - 1 tiger shark, 2 hemipristis serra (upper and lower), 1 Isurus sp., 1 Sand Tiger Shark and 1 little Meg. Beyond this i will put too some fish vert, fish teeth and ray teeth... Interested send me pm please. The pictures are a example of the fossils... Thanks Filipe
  11. The bad news is that, in April, I turn 40. Good news is that I'll be taking the self-gifting opportunity to take my missus overseas around May. I am blocking off 3 weeks of travel: one week in Lisbon, and two weeks in various locations in Morocco. Trip of a lifetime. I have been to Lisbon before (and loved it, including a self-guided day trip to Sintra). Apart from enjoying all that Lisbon has to offer, I am hoping to connect with some of our local TFF members there for a day trip. in terms of Morocco, I am planning one week of culture tourism, but the second for fossil collecting. As an outsider, I will be purchasing the services of a reputable guide. Before I approach my travel agent, I was hoping to tap the wisdom of our TFF members who have been there as to the more reputable guide services. I have read that GeoAtlas tours are good, but would prosper from the experiences of others. That way I could better direct my travel agent who may not have the knowledge and experience others here might. thanks in advance for your insights! PS: Although @Ludwigia doesn't know it yet, my 50th involves a guided tour by him in Germany so that I, too, can find unripened glauconitic ammonites

    Shark teeth from Portugal

Hello everyone, Im back again with more fossils to identify... This time they are shark teeth I received from Filipe Vieira ( @Vieira ) during a blind trade organized on this very forum. The trade went very well, I was extremely pleased with what he gave me. Unfortunately, there are a few of the shark teeth that he couldn't identify. They all come from Sesimbra, Portugal, from which the fossils date to the Miocene period, about 20 million years ago. In case you cannot see it in the photos, they all have small serrations (except for the third tooth). Some of the possibilities: lemon shark (Negaprion brevirostris), bull shark (Carcharinus leucas), Galapagos shark (Carcharinus galapagensis), hammerhead shark (Sphyrnidae), and blue shark (Prionace glauca), etc... If you want individual photos of one of the teeth, feel free to ask me in the comments below! Thank you already for your help, Max
