After fossils hunting in the North Sulphur River, I decided to go and check out Post Oak Creek in Sherman, Texas. I found 83 teeth there in one day, some of which I am interested in getting identified. These teeth are from the Upper Cretaceous period.

I found this on a trip to POC last week. To me it looks like 2 teeth with a possible small jaw section. Can anyone verify? I’m assuming shark of some sort, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all I found these two fossils in Post Oak Creek (Sherman, TX) today and would appreciate any input as to what they are. My guess on the first one is that it is part of a turtle shell, and the second one is part of a crustacean. Thanks!

So I was searching through the remaining material I had from a trip to POC. I’ve had this material for a few weeks and I randomly go back look through it trying to find more micro teeth. When looking today I found two items that were a bit different than the other items I found. Anyone that can help me identify what species the small tooth is would be great. Not saying it’s rare but it just looked different than the probably 50 I found. Also the other chunk looks to be a piece of jaw with two small teeth connected. At first glance I thought it was a broken piece of tooth it the more I looked, it looks like one of the teeth is whole and not fractured or cracked. Any opinions would be great!

Found these little fragments when looking around in Post Oak Creek near Sherman, Texas. To me they resemble rodent teeth, and I've certainly found non-fossilized ones out there, but these are definitely fossilized. Any idea what they could be? Largest fragment is 16mm long and 4mm wide. Close up shot is the wider end of the fragment, which shows a really cool cross section of the piece.

So my 8 year old son and I did our first ever trip to go find fossils. Attached is what we found in our very untrained 2 hour trip! Haha I literally have no experience outside of reading on this forum from time to time. We may have just picked up some rocks but they looked like fossils to us. I know most most of the teeth are probably goblin and I believe we found 2 Ptychodus. The main things I’m wondering about are the long piece slim piece next to the Ptychodus (possible whale tooth?), two vertebrae looking pieces, the egg shaped piece, and the white pieces. Not sure if they are bones of if they are just random trash we picked up thinking they were treasures. Haha All our tooth fragments Item on right? Egg shaped item Vertebrae? Vertebrae? Cant tell if this tooth is broken or just worn Cool little shell in a rock formation No clue? Looks like bones in rock but could be just river muck This looks like a little flipper but not sure

We are back asking for more help. Hope we do not wear out our welcome. LOL. We are very excited about our new hobby close to home and you all have been great help. We went to post oak creek in Sherman TX today. Please let us know if better pics are needed. We think A. Is just a modern piece of bone from a deer, pig, cow, etc... We posted it in the pic just to help is learn. If better pics of other pieces are needed please reply and we will take them. M & T

We had a good day at the Post Oak Creek today. We found many shark teeth, but we also found this mammal tooth. Does anyone know what kind of animal it came from? I appreciate any help.

Ok, last one I promise. I have found a few pieces of these fossil bone fragments with an odd type of material attached to them. Rather odd texture, sort of bumpy. My first thought was some type of skin or hoof. I am puzzled. Any ideas? Found in Post oak creek, Grayson Co. Texas Lower Austin, upper Eagle Ford Gulf series.

Hello, I found this beauty in Post Oak Creek last week; and I have absolutely no Idea what this vertebrae could be from. I am used to finding various shark/fish verts in the creek, but nothing such as this. Help! Post oak creek is in Sherman, Tx. Cretaceous, Gulf Series - Upper Eagle Ford, Lower Austin Group. I'll attach more pics below

We found this mystery item which appears to be a tooth of some sort. We found it in the gravel bed of the creek while looking for shark teeth. It is from Post Oak Creek in Sherman, TX. Can anyone tell me what it is? Thank you!

Hi all. Firstly I would like to thank everyone for this amazing resource. I just joined the forum today and am excited to start sharing. My wife and I recently moved to north texas from upstate new york. We did a lot of hunting up there and have continued our passion since our move. We had a great haul last weekend, but there are a few specimens that I have never seen before and I was wondering if anyone could help identify. Please accept my apologies up front if these are common as we are definitely still learning and we are not familiar with the deposits here in texas. I believe the deposit is cretaceous. We found many more than this but as I said these are some of the more unique finds. If you need closeups let me know! Thanks again!

Hi all! I just joined this forum and want to thank everyone upfront for such a great resource and community. My wife and I recently relocated to north texas from upstate new york. We fossil hunted up there and since we moved to texas have found some great specimens. It has been amazing having the opportunity to hunt new deposits! Last weekend we went to mineral wells and post oak creek...both places we found from reading this forum! I think a lot of what we found is quite common but definitely very different from what we are used to in New York. We found shark teeth, shells, corals and some stuff we cannot identify...We even found what looks like a piece of native american pottery (reddish square on right side. Thanks again for looking and let me know if you see anything interesting. We are eager to learn!
