Hey everyone, I’m new to the forum but loved fossils all my life and recently got into building a nice collection. I have a chance to acquire a very nice Ammolite Ammonite at a decent price. I’m curious though are they more desirable in or out of the matrix? The one I’m considering has lovely colors including blue and purple and is out of the matrix. Was just curious before spending that kind of coin if I should consider in matrix. Thanks in advance! Lee

Hi everyone, I've been looking for a site that might auction fossils off. I've found a few, that will go unnamed, but they were plagued with issues ranging from unreasonable shipping fees to inauthenticity. I have seen here various members discussing an unnamed large fossil auction sites, and am wondering if anyone could please PM that to me, or any other site they may suggest? Thank you!

I have posted this pic on another thread but still would love any info about it. I have the opportunity to get this at a pretty low price. I am not experienced enough but it seems like these can be some really great dinosaur claw/horn/tusk fossils but I have no experience at all with dino fossils. If someone can help with the nautilus will help aswell if I want to ultimately purchase this lot. Sorry to have been asking a lot of IDs lately! I appreciate anything!

Good Evening, After one failed attempt of procuring an authentic Megaladon tooth and the money lost, I’m ready to resume attempts of purchasing a genuine specimen. Can you advise on a reputable location, store or website where I can now purchase an authentic megaladon tooth? I am very wary of scams, fake teeth, concrete molds, lead injection, etc. Support appreciated.

I hope its okay for me to ask for a few IDs before buying fossils. Here they are. With the lot with a lot, I see the nautilus shell is a cool buy and adds value to the lot. But I am unsure if the rest are cool fossils, or just some modern day horns and bones. To me it looks alot of modern stuff. Thanks for the help guys. Lately, just been buying some collection pieces while im stuck in quarantine :).

PSA: When buying dinosaur teeth, always ask for the straight line measurement
-Andy- posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Having bought fossils for years, I noticed that fossils are photographed or measured in a way that might exaggerate their sizes. Such methods include: 1 - Pinching their fingers or creasing their palms to create a small rise for the fossil 2 - Zooming in specifically on the fossil (Good to show details, but not good for size judging) 3 - Using a small hand, e.g. a child or woman's hand 4 - Giving a "by the curve" measurement instead of the straight line. E.g. a 4-incher tooth is in fact 3-inch if measured on the straight line As an example, here's a juvenile Rex tooth: Looks pretty big eh? Here's the real size: It's a hair under an inch long! I've been at the receiving end of this myself where a tooth I mistakenly assumed to be decently sized turned out to be pathetically small. To sum it up. if purchasing fossil teeth online in the future, ask specifically for the straight line measurement, or better yet ask for a photo next to a ruler. That's the only way to be fully informed about your purchase. Good luck, and happy buying! -
PSA: If sending a fossil out, please take a pic of the address on the parcel
-Andy- posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
Hi all, a friend of mine has lost a fossil of almost $1,000 in value because the parcel was delivered to a different address (in the same country) even though he had a tracking code. The local postal company claimed that they delivered to the address as stated on the parcel and the tracking code. They refuse to tell my friend which address they sent to as that is confidential information. The seller meanwhile stated he wrote down the address exactly as my friend specified, and that he checked my friend's online and Paypal as well to triple confirm that was the correct address. Right now, the seller claims he wrote the correct address. The postal company claimed they delivered to the address they were given (which isn't my friend's address). Neither side is giving in much to my friend's horror. This headache would be solved if the seller had only taken a picture of the address he claimed to ship to. It only takes 10 secs to snap a picture, but it could save you a $1,000 disaster. Sellers, please take a picture of the box. Buyers, please request for a picture. -
