Hi ive been prepping this bone which I thought was a vertebrae. Then I thought partial neutral. Now I’m not sure what it is. It seems to be hollow through the centre with quite a wide cavity.

having trouble reading Public Land Survey System descriptions
Rh_4m posted a topic in Questions & Answers
ive been reading this PDF as to understand how PLSS descriptions work, and its *mostly* been making sense to me: PLSSTutorial-1.pdf however, i have one small issue in the guide, it mentions basing the "range" and "township" positions off of a "starting point" but, it doesn't specify why the starting point is where it's at, and it also doesn't explain where/how to identify a state's starting point is the "starting point" a fixed position on a state? or does it vary, say, based off the description given in a PLSS coordinate, like the one I've attached? (covered the county name for the sake of confidentiality) big thanks to anyone who can help out! -
Have a piece of matrix with urchins on it. But they are on a thin bit of matrix that seems to be raised up bit from the rest of matrix. Was wanting see if there was something should do to help protect it or just leave if as is. The edge of some areas of the raised part are very thin seem like could flake. The raised up middle area seems to be all the way around the matrix but no on the 1 side. Will add photos best could to try show raised up parts. #1 #2 #3 #4 #5

I found a trilobite I posted a bit back that was clearly ate in half. I found a lose trilobite piece that came out on split and looked a bit like the first I found but wanted to check if others thought same? The back end looks normal, middle area looks crushed like, then head missing. I was trying to look up photos of wounded or ate trilobites but could only find ones with small healed wounds. Wanted to find out so don't just throw in bag of bits and parts if it really is a ate one. #1 #1(closer)

Hello, I found some rocks on my trip but I'm not sure if they contain any fossils. Although I'm almost certain I've found some fossilised wood. I'm in Greece btw

I had a shale piece split that has 2 trilobites in it close by, 1 about 1 1/2in. and other just under 2in. Both are missing cheeks and I haven't tried cleaning them up yet. Shale is about 8 1/2in. long and 4in. in wide in widest part. Shale is about 1 to 1 1/2in. thick in different spots. The question would be with the shale still being thick and having cracks all over, would most try to split it more? Or should try glue cracks on sides and try save it as 1 piece. If as 1 piece only got starbond glue and elmer's glue. (Top with trilobites) (top closer) (bottom) (side 1) (side 2) (side 3)

As I was going through stuff finding some of the trilobites, I found the one with a healed injury (was from post before). I thought was really cool, with a nice different look to them and been looking out for anymore. Then I was trying to learn bits more and saw a molting picture and was wanting to see if the one I found is what most would think of as a molting from one trilobite? Thinking it would be nice to have a piece that count as a molting from trilobite. Can be hard to tell with parts and pieces all over in spots.

With the trilobites in matrix from utah do you need to do anything to them before storing? Will they fall apart or anything if just left as is? I did try a glue on a very very small trilobite that looked cool but after it dried looks bad now and can't see trilobite well (wish didn't after). Wouldn't want to mess up any others.

I was hoping to get a piece of amber with insect inside and was wondering if there was any good way to know if its real from photos? Or anything to have a better chance of it being real? I've heard when you have the piece can test like (salt water/uv light) but would be nice to not end up with fakes.

Hello, Apparently I'm going on vacation to Canet-en-Roussillon, in southern France. Does anyone know of any fossil sites nearby? I know southern France has some great sites but I don't know if they are more in the atlantic coast. I would love to search for shark teeth in particular, in Spain vertebrate fossils (I mean all fossils, but specially vertebrate ones) can't be picked up so I'm exxcited to see if I can find any in France.

With the recent marktet and the introduction of Suchomimus tenerensis teeth, i was wondering what are your biggest and best Suchomimus teeth from there? I currently own a serrated and partially rooted tooth that is close to 3.5 inches. But show me all of yours!

Our fascination with the Biggest, Fastest, Strongest, Most Rare, etc.
Rock Hound posted a topic in General Fossil Discussion
One man's junk, is another man's treasure. We all have our own perspective; on what is good enough, big enough, etc. I never wish, to fail to appreciate; the smaller or more common fossils. Every fossil tells a story. Does anyone else, feel this way? ***Edits are now made to the above original post; because apparently, I suggested the exact opposite of what I was trying to say? I never wish to overlook the smaller or.more common fossils. Dog gone late night posting..... Either that, or I'm just getting old?- 16 replies

Hello everyone on the forum, and I wish you all a good day. I am Psitaccosaur9. Currently, I am renovating my display cabinet, and am going through and organising my fossil collection. Tomorrow or on Friday, I plan to post photographs of a bunch of fossils I cannot classify, in the hopes of getting an identification for them. Before I post, I just want to ask 2 questions: 1. I have quite a few fossils, so should I post them all in one thread or on multiple? 2. I do not know the location of some of my fossils, but I do know the dealers for all of them. Should I post where I obtained them? Thank you for your help. Yours sincerely, Psitaccosaur9

jcorradino posted a topic in Questions & Answers

Hi everyone, Found this gryphaea a while ago and have been pondering about what could have left these marks on this fossil, anybody want to take a crack at what it could be? I had at first assumed that they were modern marks left by a tool of a fellow fossil collector but as can be seen in the first picture the shell 'bends' into the marks, which can only have happend while the shell was still growing. Thoughts? Some general info: - Location found: Vaches Noires - Age: ~150 million years old - Fotos:

I found a small shell fossil on a piece and there seems to be other fossil imprints that have sadly wore away. I was wondering however, if I should try and break it open. Being such a minute find, it's not a huge deal if it is lost, but I am also new to this and don't know how likely it would be to find more fossils within. Note 01: The shell mold is very faint in the image and more pronounced in person. Seen on image No. 01. Note 02: There seems - to me - to be a fold or seam in the rock that would seem to make it easier to split with a chisel. Seen on image No. 01, on the bottom right. Note 03: There are crystalline elements on the surface, much like small quartz formations or granite particulate, possible suggesting a geode? .

So I own 4 Spinosaurid teeth from the KemKem beds now between 79MM and 116MM. As looking closer, they can vary a lot between the teeth. Is there any explanation. As most of the people call it the regular Spinosaurus Aegypticus. Looks to me there could have several big spinosaurids lived during the time? I am not as educated as most of you are. Hence the question I'm asking out of curiosity.

Where I can find some images for collection labels ?
Francesco1994 posted a topic in Questions & Answers
Hello everyone ! I wanted to ask you where I could find "silhouette" images of the species to put on labels for my collection. I am in fact making an inventory and cataloging all my fossils and I would like to create labels on the style that I am attaching to you at the bottom. Is there a site or any stock images of this type? From the images it would seem that they all belong to the same "style". Thank you in advance and have a nice week!- 2 replies

Is the dinosaur, or so called dinosaur Deltadromeus Agilis an actual valid species of dinosaur. As some people claim it to be. Others do not. I do not have a clear view of the situation and I'd love someone to properly explain it.

Aquired a big megalodon tooth who seemed to have certain deformation/pathology to a certain extent. However, it looks like serrations has started to split off in two directions? I'm not familiar with this at all. Anyone who is more familiar with megalodon and shark teeth that can help?

Hey all! We uncovered these two horn/tusk/tooth looking items under silt and huge rock on a bend in the South Toe River in Burnsville, NC. Any ideas? We thought maybe steer? They aren’t scratchable with a finger nail and one definitely has some pattern at the tip. We are more curious than anything to find out if anyone knows what they might be. Could totally just be roots or wood but thought we’d check.
