  1. Hello I am trying to figure out if this specimen is real or if parts of it are composites. I do know that a protective coating has been put on to protect it, and that it had to be glued together once, but I am not sure if the digits on the hands are real or if the ribs are real. Thanks!

  10. Hello, I was wondering if this spinosaurus tooth is a fake. I got it awhile ago, it looked painted so I washed it off and this is what it looks like.
  11. My great aunt gave this to me years ago, and I would like to know if it is real. I know there are tons of fakes, and would like to see if mine is real.
  12. Hey there! I am relatively new to fossil collecting and hope to go on to do some hunting etc, but anyways! I am considering purchasing this keichousaurus hui attached and wondered if it is a real or a fake? As I know you need to be extremely careful when buying one of these due to the hight amount of fakes being produced. Thanks!
  13. Hello everyone im new here , really exited to find this forum for discussion and information about fossils. Now to my problem i bought this trilobite 28cm (''cambropallas telesto'' if im not mistaken) from a local store from what they said to me this was imported from UK, when i got a closer look seemed to me that most of the ridges of the trilobite are engraved man-made by some kind of clay. So my question is any part of it real? I would have posted more pics but the files are too big. Thanks in advance.
  14. Hi all. Is this Keichousaurus real or fake? This product is very cost-effective,but I have to admit there are dubious areas like the head and too-perfect tail I just want a confirmation form the experts Thanks My English isn't very good, please don't mind
  15. I found this Dilophosaurus tooth for sale online and am suspicous of its authenticity. The problem is I don't know a lot (or anything) about dinosaur teeth and how one would go about spotting a cast. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
  16. I found this trilo for sale online, seller claims the species is Parahomalontus however I cannot find much info on this species. Can anyone help me ID this trilo and tell whether or not it is fake? Thanks.
  17. I was wondering if anyone here can tell me if this is legitimate or not? The seller says it's a museum quality piece, but after looking at it and the back I question. It almost sounds hollow when I knock on it. Would love any feedback, trying to build up my collection and thought this was a very nice looking fossil, but I know very little.
  18. Hello, I am brand new at fossil collecting and am trying to get specimens for my science class (I’m a high school science teacher). I bought a few fossils pretty cheap not knowing how prevalent fakes are. I think some are fake, partially faked, or enhanced. I don’t want to misinform my students in what is real and what isn’t so I’d love some help! (Fakes aren’t the worst thing for me since we can discuss the use of models in class, I just need to know what is real or fake). Here is my first specimen: a trilobite of unknown origin (I havnt seen one like it online which is why I think it is fake). Thanks!
  19. Can anyone advise if this egg looks fake or real, I'm thinking of purchasing it.

  21. Hi everyone! New member here. I am very excited to make my first post. So I came across a vendor today with some cool stuff, but I wanted to run some photos by the forum members first to see: 1) if you think they are real or fake. 2) how much would you expect to pay for a piece like that. Thanks for the help! Item #1 - Mosasaur Jaw To my eyes, this item looks legit as the teeth don't seem to be floating above the jaw with composite all around it, or teeth pointed in different directions. BUT...I know fakes are good and I am relatively new to educating myself to fakes vs real. Item #2 - Another Mosasaur Jaw (top and bottom) Also looks pretty legit to my newb eyes. But I am worried both top and bottom jaws in that position are too good to be true. Item #3 - Croc Skull? My gut reaction is fake...mostly due to the matrix looking like it was smeared on like cream cheese. Item #4 - Plesiosaur Skull and Neck It's apparently from goulmima southern morocco. Sadly I don't have more pics, as I didn't want to handle it and move it around. But I was able to get down low and see that it does have it's teeth. I just couldn't a good picture of it. :-\ The closest comparison I could find was this plesiosaur head/neck from an archived auction house website image. But the matrix around it seems the same.
  22. Hello all, I just started collecting and would like some help. I bought this at a local store here in town and after doing some research I am now worried if this is the real deal. I have tried to find information to see if I can figure it out myself but after hours of looking I can not come to a clear determination.I would like your guidance on my new found journey into fossils. Thank you.
  23. Hey, I got a Little fossil kit on Christmas, and I was wondering if all of these are real? And if so, what are the fossils on the top row?
