  1. Hi everyone, I’ve read a few posts by others about their dubious Keichosaurus fossils, so I understand the gist of the situation when it comes to these pieces, but still wanted more than one opinion on a Keichosaurus I may obtain. I don’t necessarily mind having a piece that is enhanced a bit, but what I do not want is a completely bogus fossil. If anyone can tell me how much authenticity they believe this fossil to have based on photos alone, I’d love any feedback. It’s being offered to me for trade by another collector in exchange for my 4.2 inch Carcharodontosaurus tooth. I got my tooth for a very fair price, and so my concern is letting go of this tooth and not being able to replace it for a similar reasonable price. It’s not a perfect Carch but it is a nice one. Bad trade? Good trade?
  2. I know there are a lot of tips on here to help identify eggs, but I want some opinions. See the photos purchased on ebay from china
  3. Hey everyone i recently bought a spino tooth from esty and wanted to see if you think it is real or fake. thanks.
  4. Hey guys is this brachiosaurus real? Details below Branchiosaurus: Apateon pedestris with skin shadow - rest Age: Perm Age approx .: 285 million years Layer: Rotliegend Location: Niederhausen / Germany Fossil size approx .: 4.7 cm with curvature Plate size approx .: 10 x 7.5 cm The Branchiosaur was provided with a special protection for preservation.
  5. Hey guys, I'm sure this has been asked a lot but I just bought a Keich and I'm wondering if I made a mistake. Pictures should be attached.
  6. Hi Everyone, I'm guessing the answer to this would be yes so apologies for my naivety and thank you for your patience here. My husband has always been into paelentology, loves his geology and fossils and he has a birthday coming up. I wanted to get him something really lovely because not only is he a lovely hubby on a daily basis but he's been especially so over the last few months, looking after my parents a lot when my Dad got seriously ill late last year. I decided I wanted to get him a really lovely fossil plaque and so I went looking and found a Keichousaurus from a UK seller. Stupidly, having looked around a lot at internet fossil sites I still ended up on ebay because the sites either didn't have anything suitable or did have something amazing but that was out of my budget (which was reasonable at a few hundred but obviously not enough to get him something bigger). The seller looks reputable enough. He has 100% positive feedback (but clearly doesn't really sell fossils - there were a couple of reviews from happy shoppers on there who had purchased a couple of fossils from him) answers all queries very promptly, has promised that should I be less than 100% happy with the fossil he will give me a full refund, states that he purchased this fossil from a reputable UK seller because he is aware of issues with Keichousaurus fossils, etc. However, it wasn't until afterwards I decided to read up a little bit more about Keichousaurus' that I discovered about the issues exporting fossils from China and that in addition these are prime targets for fake fossils. Seriously, there is nothing that anyone can say at this point that is going to make me feel any more stupid than I already do and I've learnt a valuable lesson from it. The problem is that as this isn't something I've ever purchased before I genuinely didn't realise that people would or could make convincing fakes (although obviously I'm a bit better educated now)! In terms of re-sale I'm sure my husband would never sell it but thats not the point - I wanted to give him something really special and unique to thank him for everything he does on a daily basis and I'd be heartbroken if it wasn't genuine. The fossil is getting shipped this week and like I said the seller does seem a genuinely nice guy, who has been with ebay for over a decade and I don't think he would deliberately attempt to fleece me. I do believe him when he says he would refund me if I wasn't happy so now I'm wondering if there is any way I can check the fossil is genuine when it arrives and could really do with some help. I'm sorry to ask - I'm guessing I am far from alone in this topic but any help that could be offered would be very gratefully received. I have a photo of the fossil below if this helps and have more if needed: Many thanks for any help you can give!
  7. Hi everyone, I'm very new to the world of fossil collecting and would appreciate some expert level input on the legitimacy of this mosasaur jaw. I realize there are many fake pieces circulating the market. Does anyone know what something like this is worth? Any assistance would be very helpful. Thank you!

    Fossil icythosaurus

Is this a icythosaurus or mixosaurus? And is it real?
  9. A partial dinosaur (I guess is psittacosaurus). Please help me see if this is real or fake.
  10. I know, there are fakes everywhere and only a fool would take a chance on a keichousaurus auction. Well, I'm the fool that just did just that very thing. I didn't think I'd win with a $70 bid, but low and behold I am the proud new owner of an as yet to be inspected fossil keich. I thought I'd post it here and see what you all thought of it. When it comes in I will give it the acetone test, the microscope test, the hot pin test and the black light test and will post my impressions If it. To be honest though, it looks decent enough that it could be a good buy and would make a nice shelf neighbour to my Hyphalosaurus... but only if it's real Here's the auction photos...
  11. Hi all, a friend recently offered an interesting fossil to me - an octopus from Lebanon. Now, as some of you might know - Lebanon does have octopus fossils, though they are very rare. This fella here doesn't look outright fake at first glance, but I don't know if he's real either. I don't know many Lebanese experts, but when I showed it to two, here's what I was told. Expert A - It's real, but the tentacles are painted Expert B - It's just a squid painted to look like an octopus Now, painted tentacles is annoying, but at least it would be a real octopus. But a squid painted to look like one is a big no-no. What are your thoughts on this guy?
  12. Hello all! I saw this mosasaur jaw, and I'm wondering whether the bone is real. The teeth look pretty real to me, and they probably are because those are not worth faking; but I'm really not sure about the bone... The seller admits that glue was used for the jaw, but no restoration or enhancement. Also, I'm wondering whether the teeth come from the jaw or are separate teeth just glued on. I'd like your thoughts on this! Best regards, Max
  13. Hello, Are the two below fossils real? I don't have any info on the fly but the info I have on the lizard is from Odernheim, Pfalz, Germany and that it is a Branchiosauria. Both fossils are absolutely flat with no raised bones or bumps. Also, how can I tell the difference between real or fake fossils in the future?
  14. Hi I have just begun collecting fossils and I still have a lot of trouble telling the difference between what is real and what is fake. I am thinking about purchasing a Moroccan Phacops Trilobite (picture below) and I was wondering if anyone could give me advice as to it's authenticity. Thank you
  15. I picket this up at the gem and mineral show today in Denver. I have a bad feeling I got burned on this. I am new to this forum and would really really appriciate any help I could get in determining if it is real or not. It was supposedly found is Massachusetts. The print is not completely flat, it has bumps and hills in it, but the print is not an impression or indentation.
  16. I've collected a few dinosaur teeth specimens and I would like this community's input on whether or not they are real. You can view the teeth here: http://imgur.com/a/JZRCf I would love any input!
