  1. Hello! I received my first megalodon tooth today and I just wanted to make sure it looks like it’s a real one. The enamel just seems so smooth and shiny, like it was coated with something. Is that just the way these teeth look? Or is it normal for them to be prepared with a coating? Again, I’m totally new to shark teeth and any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  2. Hi. I recently went to a fossil show. I didn't saw anything i really liked but my wife saw these trilobites and wanted them. So i got them as a gift for her. Normally she's not in to fossils. So i wanted to know how much of these are real or repaired. If u need more pics i can take some but we dont have good daylight but i will try Thanks
  3. Hi everyone! I was recently gifted this trilobite fossil, but after taking a look at it, it seems as though it may not be authentic. Although I don’t see obvious evidence of resin casting, i.e. air bubbles, the specimen does lack lots of clear detail in the head and in the eyes. I’m hoping it’s just a bad prep job, but realistically I’m leaning towards it being a fake as I’ve seen many Moroccan fabrications similar to this one. Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you all so much for your help!
  4. Hello, my name is Max and I will begin collecting fossils. My passion for fossils and especially dinosaurs started when I was a child. I had lots of dinosaur toys, watched a lot of movies and documentations, studied facts about them and felt like a paleontologist with my excavation kits. My fascination for this prehistoric world has never been estinguished. That's why I decided to buy a tooth of a spinosaurus, which is one of my favorites. Before buying I have read some "real or fake"-topics here in the forum but I am still not sure if the tooth I'd like to buy is real, composited from different teeth or even fake. The tooth is very large (15.5cm) thats why I thought it could possibly be composited to increase the size. The selling shop states that the tooth was repaired. Would greatly appreciate any help from you. Thank you. Max
  5. Hello all, I'm interested in these keichousaurus brothers. The seller has reserved the matrix for me, and I would love to understand some things before I buy. Better first ask to avoid bad surprises later ;-) Hope some of the experts here can support me. My questions are Is it an original/authentic fossil and not a replica? Guess it is original ;-) The quality of preparation seems to be below average? What is this untypical light-grey cloud around the right brother? Cheap prep? It looks a bit flat to me, not really 3d-look bones, is this from erosion? Is it complete or can you see any enhancement, paint or retouch been made? Thanks a lot everyone in advance. mr.rod
  6. Do you guys think this is real or fake. I'm assuming fake, but thought I would post to see if you would be willing to give any insight. Apparently it was found in the Kem Kem Basin, Morocco, Africa.
  7. Hello, I was about to purchase this Struthiomimus specimen for my mother but I happened to come across this forum so I decided to make an account and post to see if you guys would be willing to offer any insight about the authenticity of these Struthiomimus claw & toe bones. The seller said he got the parts for this specimen from his friend that he has collected with before. He has plenty of testimonies going years back. Apparently the parts were all found within 10 miles of each other in Wilbaux County, Montana.
  8. I have recently found this forum and have been going through various posts. All very interesting but now has me questioning everything I own. I have been able to identify everything as real or fake except the dreaded Spinosaurus claw. It is something I have gotten years ago and I keep going back and forth on it so I need you expert opinions on it. It weights about 77 grams if that helps.
  9. A supposed fossil seen on a website, based on my research its probably based off of or is a specimen of the genus Platycephalichthys Thoughts on if its a replica or real?
  10. Hi, I am not an expert, so I decided to ask for help in this forum. My Dream is to buy real fossils so I found a website with some interesting fossils, a keichosaurus and three Megalodon teeth. Can you help me to recognise if they are real fossils or not? thank you very much!
  11. Hi, I found this fossil sold online, what are your opinions about it? In general, are auction sites good websites to buy fossils or have you a website to suggest where I can buy fossils original? Thank you for your help!!
  12. Hi, I would like to buy this skull of mosasaurus, but I am not sure that it is a real fossil… could you help me please? thank you very much
  13. Hi, I would like to buy this fossil, but I don’t know if it is a real fossil because I am not expert, it is a spinosaurus claw. can you please help me ? thank you very much
  14. Hi all, I picked up a Lot of 15 fossils and one very large whale vertebrae at an auction recently. Sadly it had all been treated as junk and several fossilised teeth had been broken, one tip lost, no identification or history attributed to the items. I find it quite sad when a fossil survives for 100+ million years in nature then gets wrecked immediately in someone’s care because it doesn’t make as much money as a pair of earrings . Anyway, going off topic... so I have this group of unloved fossils - teeth, vertebrae, bone - which I will probably never be able to fully identify. Amongst them all are two claws and I can’t tell if they are real or fake. They are about 3” long, light (21 and 25g), feel brittle and not very dense (like clay though they are obviously not clay). They are not resin or plastic. The thicker claw seems to have a seam around the middle as though two halves have been glued together. What are your thoughts? How do I find out more? I’ll post the other fossils in the ID forum. Many thanks.

    Parasaurolophus

A while ago I purchased this hadrosaur tooth under the label "Parasaurolophus". The dealer said the tooth came from the Judith River Formation and appears to have the rippled side found in other pictures labeled as Parasaurolophus. My other hadrosaur teeth appear to be indeterminate, but this one seems unique, albeit in rough shape though. Can anyone verify that this is in fact Parasaurolophus? Thanks!
  16. Hi everyone, I saw another fossil online. But I’m not sure which part of it. Would you help me to identify it, please? Thank you very much

    Fern ?

Hello I just wanted to know if this is a real fern or plant fossil . It is from Bolivia .
  18. Hello everyone ! this vertebra labeled as Mosasaur tail vertebra section from Phosphate bed of Morocco , seller Claimed that it has no repair or restored Do you see any repair or restoration or any red flag sign of this piece ? Best regards Guns
  19. Real or fake? It’s a nice looking piece, so I might be interested in it still if it is a cast or a combo, but also don’t want to overpay if that’s the case.
  20. Hi all, I’ve just purchased a large Agadir Ammonite from a dedicated fossil shop and am wondering if it at all real? I would appreciate any inclination!
  21. Hello, I have a question about the authenticity of a tooth. All 4 teeth are carcharodontosaurus teeth. Normally I know only brown to reddish teeth. The tooth on the left side is 8 cm big and in my opinion rather white. Is this a coincidence or a fake? Thank you very much
  22. Hi all, Well here it is. Oviraptor egg from a 30 year old collection located in the United States. Bought first and read posts on here about fakes later. Smart right? I'll attach pictures but my concerns are 1. It isn't pancaked like most ones I see, 2. Texture changes on the surface could be matrix repairs, 3. On broken areas shell thickness is not consistent. I'll add the best pictures I can. Almost looks like it was painted in the last picture. Thoughts on this would be appreciated. Good or bad lol.
  23. Hello, I was wondering if these chinese Keichosaurus looked real? How much reconstruction/restoration if any, and how is their condition? Both slabs are about 9 inches long. First looks ok to me, second's body looks a bit weird. Thank you! 1. 2.
  24. Hey everyone! I made an account just to ask this question from some real experts: is this Mosasaur jaw real? I bought a tooth from the same shop and the matrix looked the same: some bones scattered about in the dirt and rock. (It’s the one right under my pinkie I’m the image) I’m a little thrown off because, well firstly, the shop traveled to vendor at a fair and that seems a little suspicious. Secondly, they’re selling other items that are commonly faked from Morocco like Trilobites. I really want this to be real but I can’t justify buying a fake…

    Spinosaurus or crocodile tooth?

Hello! I bought this tooth from a gift shop. It was labeled a spinosaurus tooth. I’m just wondering if it most likely is a spinosaurus tooth, or a crocodile or something else? Thank you!
