Hey everyone, At first: my apologies that this is the only picture I have. I am looking into buying this lot of minerals and fossils which include the fossils on the attached picture. The scorpions and the centipede however do look very fake to me. Can anyone confirm these to be fake? And what about the trilobites? Thank you all for your time and help.

Is This Claudiosaurus Skeleton Real?
OneLastSift posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello I am trying to figure out if this specimen is real or if parts of it are composites. I do know that a protective coating has been put on to protect it, and that it had to be glued together once, but I am not sure if the digits on the hands are real or if the ribs are real. Thanks!- 6 replies

Is this a real T-rex tooth? The seller is marketing it as such but I can't stop a hunch that it may not be true. and / or it's a carcharodontosaurus tooth or something but they're usually thinner I thought. There is very little description and not a lot of accompanying information either. What do you experts think?

Another trilobite for your opinions
Archiveit posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello, and thanks to everyone who helped with my last trilobite that I had inquired about. I had a bad feeling about it from the start, so I wasn’t surprised that it turned out to be mostly fake. I have a few more trilobites here that I’ve acquired over the years that I was hoping to get some more opinions on, and if possible maybe get the species identified, as not all of them were identified when I bought them. I'll start with just this one for now (I was going to post more, but I seem to have reached some file limit and can't post any more photos in this thread). It is about six inches outstretched. I am certain that it is at least partially real, as there is some good eye detail, but there is also some very obvious restoration work on one of the eyes, which indicates that at least some portion of the fossil is not original, and I was wondering if anyone can say which parts of this trilobite are original fossil and which are not. Also, there is a split in the rock which divides the fossil in half at about the point where the cephalon meets the thorax (it looks further down from the bottom of the matrix, but from the top that’s where the crack is), so I suspect that this may be a composite. Thank you- 21 replies

Mosasaur Skull in matrix (Real?)
MaxC posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everybody I found a seller who is wanting to sell this Mosasaur matrix-specimen. Initial photo's look ok, but I would like to get your opinions on it. Can ask for detailed photos if needed. This would be my first 'major' item that I would add to my humble collection, so naturally, I'm cautious. Kind Regards Max (Belgium)- 12 replies

Ekuzo posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hey guys, Recently my friend bought a trilobite and the seller told him it was a reedops, but I checked some pictures on the website and found that it should be a drotops? Both eyes showing good details but still quite doubt that this one is a fake trilobite cuz the seller just gave him a wrong information. I don't have any experience on how to recognize these kind of fossils. The last picture was send to him by the seller. Please help me T T Many thanks!! -
Hey guys, has anyone here bought a fossil replica? If so does it look like the real thing? Does it feel the same? I’m thinking of buying some replicas because I can’t afford some real fossils.

Question about my fossil
acron611 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello everyone, half a year ago I bought this Phareodus fossil. I am extremely happy with it and know it’s real, but my question is how much, if any, has been retouched. There is obvious putty in the center of the fish to glue it together. There is a noticeable orange glaze over it which I’m wondering is just to keep it from getting scratched or damage. Thanks -

Hi there i continue to maintain my very very amateur status but I've been trying to read the different threads on here regarding spinosaurus jaw and what I gathered so far is pitting is reflective of croc jaw and if it only has a single socket or also makes it difficult to determine if its spino or croc. I found this one on our favorite auction site and wanted to get your opinion
