Hello, I have a question about the authenticity of a tooth. All 4 teeth are carcharodontosaurus teeth. Normally I know only brown to reddish teeth. The tooth on the left side is 8 cm big and in my opinion rather white. Is this a coincidence or a fake? Thank you very much

Hey everyone! I made an account just to ask this question from some real experts: is this Mosasaur jaw real? I bought a tooth from the same shop and the matrix looked the same: some bones scattered about in the dirt and rock. (It’s the one right under my pinkie I’m the image) I’m a little thrown off because, well firstly, the shop traveled to vendor at a fair and that seems a little suspicious. Secondly, they’re selling other items that are commonly faked from Morocco like Trilobites. I really want this to be real but I can’t justify buying a fake…

Spinosaurus tooth - any issues?

I new to collecting and recently received this Spinosaurus tooth from a dealer who has a great reputation online. It was not a particularly expensive tooth and although the crown appeared to be in good condition from the dealer listing (and no repairs/restoration work was listed) the root has me a little suspect. No alarm bells from the listing photos but now that I have it in my hand and can see it from all angles, it got me wondering. The first couple of attachments are the dealers listing photos. The rest of the photos are mine. The main thing that has me curious is the colour visible in parts of the tooth, especially the root - the white is very white in areas, and I dunno how to describe it, just not quite 'right'. I've included photos of the area on the root that looks a bit fishy to me (mind you due to lighting conditions this doesn't come across as white in the photos as it does to my eye) and then also some damage on the crown where you see the same tone of white - some from a chip on the edge of the tooth, and also at the tip. The dealer does accept returns, just wondering if there is actually anything suspect with this or not? I am a total novice so I may be seeing problems that aren't really problems at all, just wanted to check. Cheers

hi folks, Im thinking of buying a cluster of Oviraptor from a seller who says he got these at a gem/fossil show over 10 years ago. He says he preps fossils and has extensive experience but has not finished prepping these particular eggs and won't get around to abrading them out of the matrix. I told him they are fake but he insists they are not, so I wanted to put it to the test here. thanks for your help.

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is doing well I have recently started getting myself into collecting fossils and I came upon this lot of jellyfish fossils so I purchased them because they seemed interesting and it’s something I never had. Do these look fine ? To me they just look like stained rocks but that could just be because jellyfish are soft bodied organisms. Thanks for your input

Hello all. My first purchase. I'm pretty confident of they're authenticity. But I just want any concern settled. Slight impulse buy as they were in an auction and it almost ended. Tooth #1: Actually has sand still stuck in its crevices and still smells like the sea. This might make it an obvious real specimen but I don't know how far fakers are willing to go. The white striations are a lot more prominent in the pictures. They don't really look like that in person. Polishing compound? Reportedly Otodus Megalodon from South Carolina. Tooth #2: Very little sand can be seen. A lot cleaner. No odor. Same deal with the white lines (cracks) in enamel. Reportedly Otodus Megalodon, about the Miocene period. South Carolina. Though I thought the Otodus and Miocene period occured at different times. Can't find a definitive answer.

Good day and thank you for reading! I bought a 7-inch Spinosaurus claw in an auction and was hoping to get a second opinion on the condition and authenticity. I can send it back within a month for a full refund. I am also hoping for some pointers in knowing if is repaired or a composite. I have read many of the forums on here, but I have more questions. The length is 7 inches, but I do not have a ruler at the moment. This fossil is supposedly from the Kem Kem beds in Morocco. Any help is appreciated! Btw I do not have many fossils and plan to display this one to the public at my work if I keep it. Reasons why I do not think it is a composite or a carving: The texture and colors match on both ends of claw. They are also appropriate for fossils from Morocco. The shape and feel are good. Blood grooves follow the correct path. Reasons why I question if it is repaired or a composite: The darker brown areas do have a smoother texture and the grain is not visible in the very dark areas. How can you tell if this is substrate or cement/glue? If it is cement or glue, this piece could have been broken in half at some point, since the darker material has a concentration at the center and the tip. The blood grooves are not the exact same size on either side, though they are close. One side is wider. The darker areas do cause some "muddiness" but I cannot tell if it substrate. It is a bit lighter than I expected, but feels solid and has a similar feel and sound to other fossils when I tap it. Legit Carcharodontosaurus Tooth?

Hi there everyone! I've recently been acquiring different fossils to add to my collection and I came across a listing for a carcharodontosaurus tooth that really interested me. Below are a few photos of the listing advertising the carcharodontasaurus tooth. The sellers themselves are very reputable and I am in no way questioning their validity as I'm sure the tooth is a real fossil. Instead, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me positively identify the fossil as a carcharodontosaurus tooth as I know many different teeth and fossils come from the Kem Kem Beds in Morocco. The tooth is in pretty rough condition and has been glued together as seen through the middle of the tooth laterally, though it looks to still have most of its enamel and serrations in tact. Despite these quirks, I'm still very interested in adding this tooth to my collection and I would love to know if the tooth is in fact from a carcharodontosaurus or if it is possibly from another animal of that time period. I got this trilobite fossil from my mom on Christmas. Something about it doesn't seem right to me. It doesn't look like other specimens I see online. What is up with the eye-like bumps on top of its head? Why is the head so smooth? I'm just a person casually interested in paleontology, so I am by no means an expert. I would appreciate it very much if I could get some insight from people who are knowledgeable in this field. Thank you. (I didn't realize my photos needed a ruler for scale until after I took the pictures. Since I don't want to retake the photos, the fossil is about the size of a kiwi fruit. If that doesn't help, let me know and I'll replace the current photos with ones that have a ruler. Sorry for any inconvenience. )

Hi!, Recently I've bought a Spinosaurus tooth, but my family keeps saying that it is fake. The tooth came in the display, so I couldn't get it open, but I can still see it with great details. Can someone confirm that it is a real tooth and not another fake? The website that I bought it from said the following: Spinosaurus tooth 1.3 inches, form Morocco no restoration.
