  1. Hi guys! First things first, I've been following this forum (and this section inter alia) for a good year, I simply love the community, so I decided to join it and actively participate instead of being just an external viewer. I'm not a fossil expert, but I'm willing to learn and I'll do my best to improve. But I guess that since this is a fossil lovers community, it's fossils what you want to see. Well... I inherited from a granduncle of mine a LOT of minerals -geodes, crystals, nuggets etc- and fossils (I hope I can show you my collection over time), including ammonites -guess that guy litterally LOVED ammonites- of all shapes and sizes, dinosaur, shark and mammoth teeth, amber with insect inclusions and many many other things... including trilobites. The largest trilobite I got is this: it's a 27x17x4cm piece, not the best I've seen in my life but still pretty good IMO. No idea of where he got it, nor when, not even how much he paid for it. Still, I'm pretty sure it's a fake. But before officially confirming that my granduncle threw his money away with this, I'd like to ask you a second opinion. Thanks for your help, I'm sure he would really appreciate it (pretty sure atm he's resting in Paradise, surrounded by his beloved ammonites). (if you'd like to see more photos, just ask)
  2. Hello! I’m new here and I was wondering if anyone here could help me. I’m a complete novice to all of this and the reason I’m here is because I wanted to buy my brother some Spinosaurus teeth as a gift, as they are his favorite, but I wanted to make sure what I’m buying is authentic or if it’s been repaired. I hope I’ve found a reputable site, but I would like to ask anyone’s opinion just to be on the safe side. The first one is 2.67 long. The second is 2.61. Both are said to be from the Kem Kem Beds. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you in advance!
  3. Hello everyone. I saw this green river stingray bidding for much less than it is worth on an auction site. I will likely not bid on it, but in case I do I wanted to check it’s authenticity. I know these are not really faked, but it would be quite a large purchase so I just wanted to make sure everything was in order with it. Thank you all!
  4. I have this megalodon tooth and I was wondering if if it is real or not. Please help.
  5. Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to collecting and have gotten most of my fossils so far from one website that I think is reputable. I am trying out a website that I have purchased one fossil from already because I am interested in getting a dinosaur egg. It is a little pricey, so I just wanted to get some reassurance that it's the real deal before I pay for it. It says in the description that the original owner bought it 30 years ago and that its location of origin is unknown, which made me a little suspicious. I would greatly appreciate if I could get a little direction on this one before making a commitment.
  6. Hi, Another trilobite question. Bought this recently and although every sign I've read about these creatures points out it is genuine I just thought to check it with you experts as well.
  7. So I recently purchased a moroccan drotops trilobite, mostly because of its size. It is 5 1/2 inches. It was a impulse purchase and I was not concidering if it might be fake. The reason I think it might not be genuine is the random scratches all around the trilobite on the matrix. I remembered reading that scratches like that are sometimes added to hide signs of it being faked. My original thought when I bought it, was that the scratches could be there from it being quickly prepped. Let me know what you all think! I've attached pictures of it from all angles. Thank you!
  8. Hello friends, nice to meet you. I am from Vietnam, my friends here dont know much about fossil. So can you help me? Can you tell me this is real or fake? It smells very pungent, i dont know why? I see some air balloon... Thank you
  9. Can someone tell me if this fossil is real or not, thank you.
  10. Hello forum I recently bought this 9cm big Keichousaurus and would like to get some opinions, if there are any painted parts on it? thanks marco
  11. Hello is this psittacosaurus skull is real and any restoration and repair done to it ?
  12. Hello everyone! So this fossil is being sold in the U.S. as part of an estate. It is labeled as compsognathus, but I am certain that it is not. It looks to me like some sort of marine reptile out of China. So I am wondering what it is, and if it is genuine. Thank you!
  13. Hey guys! Bought a Meg tooth from a trusted seller for my soon, but for some reason I want to confirm it is real. Here are a couple images. It is about 5.6inch in length and weights 1lb 8oz or 0.6kg. Looks great when I hold it but as you know they make great fakes... so if anyone can spot something please let me know. Thanks!
  14. Hello everyone, First of all I must say that I’m new to buying fossils and that I know nothing about Ammonites. Recently I saw this Ammonite laying around in a small home decor shop. I immediately loved it, so I decided to purchase it. However, I’ve got a suspicion that this one is fake (or at least heavily sculpted), for the following reasons: 1. It was quite cheap. The certified ones I’ve seen on the internet (same size, same price) are much less detailed than this one. 2. It has ‘flaking’ layers and some cracks (see close up pictures) 3. It just looks a little bit too perfect compared with the ones I’ve seen on the internet. I wouldn’t really mind if it were fake, because it just looks really cool. But I’m really curious what you people think. Is this real, fake or sculpted? Thank you!
  15. There are lots off fossil eggs popping up on the market. Would be nice to get some opinions on the following one: middle one
  16. Hello again everyone! i received the egg I purchased. I took pics outside in sunlight so hopefully some of the can “shed light” on whether this is real or faked. Again, I greatly appreciate everyone’s input. Thanks! Aaron
  17. Hello everyone! I’m Aaron and I’m new here. I just purchased an egg online. I then started reading about how many fakes there are and now I’m very worried. Can anyone give me the skinny on whether it’s real or not? It’s coming from Malaysia and claims to have been part of a private Japanese collection prior to the 80s. I appreciate all your input, thanks!
  18. Hi everybody, I have been looking everywhere for a decent keichousaurus fossil for the past few months, but everything on that popular bidding site seems low quality. I came across this one and was wondering if it is legit. Thank you in advance!
  19. Hi everyone. This recently came in the mail. I’m almost positive that it’s real as I bought it from a reputable dealer, but just wanted to make sure. What does everyone think?
  20. Hi there everyone. I have some pyritized ammonites I believed to be real, but now I'm having second thoughts... The ammonoids from the picture below are both supposed to be pyrite, but why is one so much "golder" than the other? I know it is a natural process, so not every piece will be exactly like the other, but my ammonites are all like the first one, bright gold, and they are all from the same seller. I just wanted to know if they are real. I mean, if that's their real color or if they are treated somehow or painted, etc... Thanks in advance!
  21. Hi there! I would like to know if this megalodon tooth is real or fake. My son says it's real due to all the damage on it, but I'm not so sure. The Seller says it's 5 and a half inches long and say the bought it at an estate sale in Texas. Thanks!
