Are these real dinosaur eggshells?
dinosaur man posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Assert for bugging everyone with a topic like this, but are these dinosaur eggshells real? I know some of the photos are extremely blurry but it’s the only ones I have and the seller hasn’t got back to me yet for extra photos. -
Hi everyone! I recently got this Paratodus Benedini tooth from South Carolina. It appears to be around 2'4 inch big and my question is it 100% real? I do want to know if this one is genuine before actually doing it of course. Thank you for the comments in advance!

Authentication of Customers Fossil - Dactylioceras
FossilizedJello posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hey all, its been a while since ive been around but fossil season is finally here in NJ! I recently sold someone a chunk of Dactylioceras ammonites from Germany. Its not the best piece but I thought he got it for a good deal and they are harder and harder to find. Now he sent me a message saying he does not believe it is a fossil. So I hope I am okay for posting this here. One of his concerns is the little residue in some places but I believe it was slightly used to preserve better in some spots. Thought it would be decent to post this here.- 8 replies

It's propably real and it has 10-15% repair. I don't know which species it belongs to (maybe Deinonychus or Dromaeosaur). What do you think?

Spino tooth natural or restored/ repaired
carch_23 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi TFF, Would like for your advice on this spino tooth I saw online. Ive been looking at some of your old threads on how spino teeth have famously been repaired or restored. Ive been, in a way, sort of been able to detect whether they have been fixed up. this one however is labelled 100% natural and messaged the seller, he also confirmed nothing has been done on the tooth and its condition is how it was found straight from the ground. Size is 4 inches so quite nice and wanted to double check as most of his listings of this size have been also labelled repaired or restored. price imo was also pretty good for its size and condition, though seller does seem reputable and many positive reviews, zero negatives. But I guess it doesnt hurt to ask for more opinions from you guys. Thanks in advance!- 5 replies

Hey hey, all fossil enthusiasts! I found these pictures of a fossil, and got curious about what kind of mammal it is. Have read about ancient camels recently and maybe thought that it is maybe a Poebrotherium skull? I don't have to much knowledge about these kinds of fossils. But would like to get some tips about how to identify these kinds of camel fossils. And maybe also how to tell the fake ones from the real ones. Since I like that kind of "investigation". //Kutembea

Spinosaurus Tooth Real, Matrix or Glue
Mister Forelle posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I just got a spinosaurus tooth by my girlfriends dad for christmas and i have a few Questions: 1. Is it real or how much of it is fixed up with some kind of matrix? 2. What is that bright white part glimpsing between the sand? 3. Should i try to free the tooth from the dark/sandy part, to reveal his real beauty? 4. If yes, how? Thank you for your time!- 11 replies

Americaspis americana - Is it Real?
historianmichael posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I recently purchased this piece from a fossil dealer. It has a complete head shield of Americaspis americana and two partial head shields. Based on the information I could gather, my guess is that it was originally part of an old collection; however, since the piece had been with the dealer for a long time, they could not confirm how they acquired it. The information card I received with the fossil states that it is from the Wills Creek Formation in Perry County, Pennsylvania. I understand that to be the location of the now-closed site where you could find head shields of Americaspis americana. When I received the piece today, some suspicions arose, which may or may not be justified. I was hoping @fossilcrazy @traveltip1 or someone else with familiarity with Americaspis americana could help resolve some of my concerns. My concerns are two-fold: (1) The head shields have been painted with a brown paint. It is possible that the original owner did this to contrast the head shields with the surrounding matrix. The paint alone is thus not a reason to say that this is fake. What is weird though is that in areas where paint has been removed, there seems to be a strange bluish color beneath it. You can see that in some of the partial head shields. (2) On one of the ends of the piece there is an edge that appears to have been cut by a saw and a portion that was left natural. There is a contrast in color again between these two surfaces. What am I to make of this? I saw a piece on another auction site that looks very similar to my piece. Is it possible that someone faked a number of Americaspis pieces and they are now floating around? The Piece The Head Shields The Suspicious End- 17 replies

Another hadrosaur egg thread - fake?
Bethshine83 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi My son has recently been given this ‘fossil’ by a relative. They bought it about 20 years or so ago from an antique shop in Hong Kong. They were sold it as a hadrosaur egg but we have no idea really if it is or not. I’m inclined to think not simply because I’m always suspicious -

Is this a real gastrolite? Urgent!
ssimo posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi, i have found this really nice specimen in a shop i have trust in. The seller managed to keep prices very low because he buy directly from Who finds the fossils and i already bought some really nice fossils from his shop. I don't have any gastrolite and this seems legit to me. The seller says it has been found in an area rich of dinosaur fossils and that the stone is very different from other rocks in that area as far as surface polishing. I know the only method to be almost sure a Stone is a gastrolite is to find it in proximity of dinosaur bones. So i know you can't confirm if this is a gastrolite, i Just want to know if there is any sign It is not a gastrolite. Thanks everyone in advance.- 5 replies

Is this Megalodon tooth real?
Peter4646 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi everyone. I am new to collecting fossils and have recently acquired my first 3 to start my collection. I have always been extreamly fascinated and intrigued by dinosaur bones and discoveries found all over the world and am really excited to have finally purchased my first few. Can anyone possibly give some feedback on this megalodon tooth i have and let me know if it shows any signs of being fake? My grandpa has had this one since he was a kid and decided to give it to me to add to my collection... he is unsure if it is real. Any feedback would be appreciated.- 8 replies
