  1. Hey everyone, I just got this beautiful cave bear jaw and I was wondering if it is real. It was found in Romania. Three of the teeth are a bit loose from the jaw and one of them can actually be removed. The tooth that can be removed is hollow. It looks like a juvenile due to the fact that not all of the teeth have grown in yet. Do you think it’s authentic? Thanks!

    Real or Fake? Crinoid

Hello, we asked some of our friends to see if they could find us a nice fossil overseas. It was meant as a surprise for me from my parents, so we couldn't see the fossil beforehand. First of all, they say the fossil is "painted" to bring out its features, this already sounds very fishy. Secondly, the rock it is on looks like an igneous rock, I thought the fossil baring rocks where supposed to be sedimentary. They took the fossil to different stores to verify its authenticity, but few people said it looked fake. I would like to know because it was quite expensive for an ameture fossil collector, and especially for a fake! If it is real, which is doubtable, then is there any way to remove the paint?
  3. Anyone know if this is real?
  4. Anyone know if this is real?
  5. Hello friends, I want to know if this specimen is real. It seems original to me. Thank you.
  6. Hey everyone, I am thinking of purchasing this dinosaur Coprolite but I want to make sure it is authentic first. The tag didn’t mention where it was from. Thanks!
  7. I was wondering if anyone here can tell me if this is legitimate or not? The seller says it's a museum quality piece, but after looking at it and the back I question. It almost sounds hollow when I knock on it. Would love any feedback, trying to build up my collection and thought this was a very nice looking fossil, but I know very little.
  8. Is this real as if it is I’m considering buying it thanks
  9. Hi all, i contacted a seller from morocco and he sent me these trilo photos. Watching fine details like eyes etc they seem real but i'm newby and i prefer to ask you. Can you also tell me the average price for that species? thank you
  10. Hi guys! I saw this specimen and I thought it looked epic. I also thought, is it real? The owner is from Germany and can’t tell me what it is and the matrix has an interesting finish and a wooden back. Some red flags here but what are our thoughts? any advice would be great thanks.
  11. Hey everyone, I saw this fossil being sold and I think I am going to buy it, but I don’t know if it’s real or fake. It is two rooted Mosasaur teeth with extra jaws and bones (I contacted the seller, who told me they were also probably Mosasaur bones). It was found in Phosphate Deposits, in Khourigba, Morocco. Please help!
  12. Hi team, thoughts on this specimen? Ideas on what it is? Iv also uploaded it into the “is it real?” Category! It’s owner is from Germany but he can’t tell me anything about it. Thoughts? thanks Nick

  15. Hey team! What are your thoughts on this piece? Real? Permian branchiosaur from Germany. Thanks for any input
  16. This mastodon tooth was apparently found in Florida in 2016. The blackish spots look like they are crystals/minerals that have replaced part of the tooth. Also, on the backside, it appears that there is plaster from when it was wrapped up. I still don’t know if it is real or fake though. Please help! Thanks!
  17. Hey guys! thoughts on this trilobite before I put an offer in. Looks ok to me. Let me know please any advice welcome. Cheers!

    I bought this shark tooth.

I was at a market in round top tx and went into a little shop that looked cool. They had a box of shark teeth and a box of spino teeth, some geodes natural beads etc I picked this tooth up because I’ve always wanted one and it was cheap. Do they fake shark teeth?

    Lunar Meteorite?

Hi. Good afternoon to everyone. I bought this meteorite on our favorite auction site. It was listed as Lunar Meteorite. Is it real? I thank you for all the help and opinions. Thank you!
  20. Hi, I saw this trilobite online and I was wondering if it was real or fake. It looks like the usual replica of a ceratarges to me. It is from Morocco of course. What do you think? Here are some pictures. Maybe @Tidgy's Dad could help me since I know he knows a lot about these Moroccan trilobites. Appreciate it.
  21. On our favorite auction site, I just happened to notice this Spinosaurus tooth which I deemed at a very affordable price for its alright size of 4.5" (11.43 cm). Although I'm sure there are very knowledgeable and experienced members on this forum who would immediately brush this tooth aside, it was convincingly real until I pulled out my lie detector: photoshop. After some zoom ins and color flopping, I was easily able to distinguish the fake parts of this tooth from real parts. It's composite- and not a very shabby one. I have had my share of time buying spinosaurus teeth, and have seen plenty "scrambled egg" teeth, but this one temporarily convinced me since the filler color in the main photo is similar to the enamel's at first glance. Not bad, eh? Could just be some minor repairs. Thank you, Photoshop. This is at least partially extended, if not composite. The middle section is an absolutely different shade of green. ---- The back of the tooth was what totally blew it. What even is that interior color!? It is supposed to be white. Now the difference is even more clear. The filler bubbles are now fully visible in contrast to the natural enamel lines on the real tooth crown. ---- The same seller has another (more obviously) composited spinosaurus tooth for sale (without describing it as composited). Now that I really have stared at this tooth for some time, I can distinctively make out that which parts of tooth are not real. Too bad. I hope this tooth does not end up in any forum member's collection. Eeeek. The moment when you find out something you want is fake. Just stay safe. The internet is full of traps. FS
  22. I recently bought this fish fossil from a seller in France thinking it was 6 cm. I was completely wrong and it is a whopping 15 cm, it is in really bad shape and seems real. The only problem is that the Rock is super light, I was not expecting a rock of this size to be this light. I want to know if it's real and if it is, what species it is. P.S. There are also a lot leaf fossils on it.
  23. I have had this Keichousaurus in my collection for a while now. I was wondering whether it's real, I really hope you guys can help. Regards, indominus rex
  24. I was looking at fossils for sale online when I stumbled across an amazing fossils, a complete fish skull. This specimen is about 40 cm in length and is at a reasonable price. I want to know whether this fossil is real, and if it is what species it is. The seller hasn't provided me with where it was found. All feedback would be helpful. Regards, indominus rex
