Can anyone recommend a good reference with illustrations of the skeletal elements of the oreodont Merycoidodon? I especially need pics of individual cervical, thoracic, and caudal vertebrae as well as the bones of the manus. I have a volume called "Osteology for the Archaeologist" that has photos of most of the individual bones of mammoths and mastodons and am looking for something like that for the oreodont (either a book or journal article)

In my goal to identify ammonites I have been seeing in Alaska have had to learn much such as ammonite anatomy and terms. My scientific illustrator, graphic artist wife helped me with these depictions of a generic ammonite. I have been reading about the various ways ammonites are described in the scientific papers and needed to be able to learn them for the descriptions to make sense. I would like input from those more knowledgeable than myself to see if I have this cheat sheet accurate. See attached PDF. Thanks for any input. Ammonite Anatomy & Terms.pdf

I've seen them in docs and in books but never in a complete form. Usually it's a graphic of a certain branch to elaborate on the subject or species of topic, but I was wondering if there were websites or info that was encyclopedic and all encompassing as we know it so far. I've tried to look around for it on the web but never came upon anything beyond WIKI (LOL), but in todays modern world I would have thought there would be a clear and informative and concise website with an aggregated collection of what science knows to this point. You can go on a gazillion websites and order anything from tools to clothing to food and see the complete product listings, sort them by price or rating, etc., some even with A.I. that anticipates your next search, yet this information eludes me, and my searches have gone fruitless. Are there any sites you would suggest looking at? Is it just not available? Do you have to take a paleo college course to get near this kind of info?

Are there any recommended books for ID'ing vertebrate fossils? Specifically, Miocene/Pliocene/Pleistocene fauna from the Southeast US or Florida? I am aware of Hurlburt's Fossil Vertebrates of Florida and it's on my acquisition list, but are there any others? Thanks! MikeG

I figured this deserved its own topic. Mike, I'd be glad to help all I can. For a few years, I've been kicking around the idea of some virtual posters for each genus of known Texas echinoids.
