Hey, hey, hey! I’ve had this chuck of flint for nearly 3 years and have always forgotten to ask about it here. I’m fairly certain I picked it up on the beach in Happisburgh, England. It’s almost 10cm long and 6cm wide. It has 4 depressions that give it a ripple-like effect. I had tried to search rippled flint but didn’t get far at all. I’ve seen flint do all sorts of weird and interesting things, but I haven’t seen this before. What could be the cause for this? It reminds me of the ancient sea floor impressions I’ve seen, though I doubt that’s the case for this one.

I seen a topic lastnight that mentioned "ripple marks". I'd never heard of it but had an idea that I had some & turns out that I have a bunch of these & some of them probably weigh a few hundred pounds. I didn't know what they were called but common sense told me what I was looking at. I had planned on cobblestoning my driveway with them originally because to me they look like big stone polaroids of ancient waves & ripples going across the water. This is not a photo of mine but looks exactly like what I have except mine are like 1ft thick. I'll get some pictures if anybody needs or wants any. So what can I learn from these & what can they tell me?

A few months ago, I asked our forum members if they had any weather related specimens that I could talk them out of. My purpose was to create a display of such material for my son, who has his bachelors degree in meteorology (also has a masters in disaster resiliency ). I actually found these ripple marks in the Cambrian sandstones of western Wisconsin and the lovely @Khyssa provided me with fulgurite examples. So in honor of Khyssa's donation, I am posting the results of my creation.

I happened to be in Gettysburg for the weekend, and I remembered an article I had read a while back. It said something about Dinosaur prints at the Gettysburg battlegrounds. So I took a trip to the location and took a look around, here’s the prints I could see with all the rain: Clearest two, it’s a foot and hand from Atreipus milfordensis.

Hi everyone, My girlfriend and I were hiking near Red Rock Canyon in Southern Nevada yesterday and came across an interesting pattern of pronounced ridges in the rock. My first thought was that they are fossilized water ripples, which have been found in the park. But on one edge the ripples stop in a very clear tapered line, which seems out of place for a shore line. I wish we had put something in the photos to get a better scale of the pattern but you can see my knee and foot in one picture. We got hooked on fossil hunting about a year ago would love to find out more about this pattern. Thank you very much for your help. -- Aaron

From the album: Urban Fossils of Toronto (Georgian Bay Formation, Lower Member)
Little ripple marks caused by the gentle currents on the shallow late Ordovician sea floor of Toronto. Georgian Bay formation, Humber member(?), Humber River area, Toronto, Ontario. Limestone slab, the coin is a quarter at the bottom for scale. Hmm, I'm beginning to decide if I should have taken this home with me today. Also at the bottom are two clam negative casts: a Whiteavesia and a Modiolopsis.© (©)

Hi, I collect rocks for fun and relaxation. I have a few that I would love to get opinions on. I contacted a very nice man at University and he said it looked to be fossilized algae. He also gave me the address to this website so I could learn more about fossils. I can use all the help I can get and look forward to your comments.
