I found these in the peace River, I know the first one is a tooth from some mammal but don’t know what. Second I believe is a porcupine blowfish mouth plate? The third I think is part of a tooth but have no idea from what? Lastly I was wondering if anyone knew what bone fragment it’s from, it’s very smooth on one side.

Found this on a river gravel bar today and southern Minnesota. The river has both Cretaceous and glacial deposits. This however looks modern - but what is it?

Hi All! I had the chance to head out last Sunday with my kid and again for a few hours yesterday solo - both times we came back with very heavy backpacks. It’s not easy collecting, but neither of us mind the army crawl in the underbrush. We’re still learning what to take and what to leave - just my 3rd and 4th trip there (thanks to fellow member and friend tom_mo for showing us the ropes and getting me addicted!!) We look for the small water created gully’s in the steep hills, lots of these have been collected over the years but just as many have not it seems. Or maybe the good collectors have just left all the big Essexella and midsized open concretions! Ha It’s so exciting when we find a vein that has loads of nodules - very addicting! I do use a hand held 15$ Home Depot hoe/cultivator to disturb the surface and move moss and leaves, and sturdy gloves to sift through the piles - it really helps. Still have to clean and prep the open ones from yesterday and start soaking these for freeze/thaw - but here’s some pics of the trove from each trip! I’m going to start a separate thread with some questions I have for the long time Mazon Creek collectors - hope you have some time to help a newbie out! Thanks for stopping by! Patrick

I recently went camping near Petersburg, WV. And, while in the river, I found this fossil on the bank. I can see shells and some other possible fossil formations, but I don't know much about fossils or rocks and would like any information or help to ID this. If you would like more pictures or angles, let me know. Note: Images taken from Canon DSLR and compressed to ~19mb from ~30mb.

Hey yall, this is my first time posting on the forums. Found this digging in a river in the San Sebastian formation in Puerto Rico. This object has a thin shell that i can able to scrape back with my nail and a knife. I stopped peeling it back because I don't know what it is and don't want to damage it. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike

Found by a friend on a Southern Minnesotan river gravel bar. Sediments in the area include everything both glacial till deposits and cretaceous sea mudstone and sandstones. although, I suspect this is modern.

I can clearly see some sort of microfilaments inside but asides from that I'm stumped. Found North of edmonton eroding into the river. Any thoughts?

I was on a hike with my boyfriend yesterday along a lake in Central Alberta, Canada when we came across this bone in the river. I know some of the discourse of using the stylid as an identification tool to differentiate between cows and bison but I can’t seem to figure this one out! Please let me know!

I'm interested in a few of these turtle fossils supposedly found in the Neuse river in North Carolina. They are also labeled as Cretaceous. Do you think this is accurate or could they be from another age and or locality?

I have found this thing next to the one small mountain river in Serbia. It looks like a bone, but feels like a stone. Is this a fossil?

Hi there, new member and not a fossil hunter per se, but came across these fossils embedded in a rock while fishing in Sept, 2022. The rock was in the upper Elk River of the Easy Kootenay region of BC. The rock was underwater and too large too move, so I left it where it was a got a picture of the fossils as best as I could. Interested in knowing if the embedded fossils have a name. Thanks!

My dad found this rock in the Vermillion River in Illinois last weekend during a camping trip. While my dad insists it's a petrified toe or a toe that was possibly covered in mud then compressed (or something of the like???? I'm not quite sure...), I personally think it's just a rock. Can someone please help officially determine what exactly it is? Thank you! -Abby

Hi, I'm brand new here. I enjoy being out in nature and collecting bones and rocks I find. Just the other day I found this jaw bone on the banks of a creek near my house in El Dorado County California. It looks to be the size of a cow or horse jaw. I would love to know what animal you all think it is from and especially how old it looks. The blueish color of the teeth has me really intrigued. Thanks for any ideas.

Hello, everyone! I went hunting along the North Sulphur River yesterday (before today’s nasty weather), and I found some fossils and what I am almost positive is an artifact. Could someone please help with IDs, if possible? Pictures #1 and #2 are of the same bone; I found the circular striations in the 2nd picture particularly intriguing. #7 (the artifact) is broken at the base and is fairly thick at the point where it is broken.

Family was excited to find this in middle tennessee in what I’m assuming was a limestone river bed. Any input what it might be? we can’t decide if it’s a tire track or something more exciting.

I found this bone in the river, possibly from Pleistocene (bone color + some kind of subfossil procceses) and what is that? I made a research, and this is smillair to nothing, maybe somebody knows what is that possibly.

Hi all. I was was hoping to get help with this one from the community. It was found in-stream near an outcropping of Pittsburg Bluff in Clatsop County, Oregon, and downstream of some Astoria Formation, both marine sediments. I have found mollusks and arthropods in the same collecting area, usually in very hard concretions. To my knowledge no marine vertebrate fossils have been found within the Pittsburg Bluff Group so if it is vertebrate I'm thinking it came down from the Astoria Formation southwest of the area. It looks and feels like bone, and is extremely porous (tongue sticks). Or it may just be a pseudofossil. Either way, thank you for the help.

Today, I found one small piece of fossil-like thing in a sandstone rock. I found it in a valley, where there is one small river with rocks which contain many brachiopods, coral, favosites fossils. But this one is different, it is in one piece of soft sandstone rock, others are in harder rocks. Western boarder of the great basin of Sichuan, China. petal_20221129_222903.mp4

Hello all, I found this in a river near John Day, which is near the John Day Fossil beds. I have zero information as I am a total newbie to all this, but I am very excited! I’ve run it under the water to see it better. It is roughly 4 in/10cm from one end of the white part to the other end of the white part. If you look at the top of the back, there looks to be more of the white just barely showing a ridge. Any help is appreciated!

Hi guys! Just Found it in a riverside (Vistula) where currents are opposite to the direction of the river's flow. Photo taken after rinsing and removing the stone that got stuck in the hole. I wonder how old the bone can be and what animal it belonged to? Location: Toruń, Poland
