Hey guys, I found this in a creek close to me in south Florida, and while I originally presumed it to be a small, worn down bone upon first glance, further inspection made me suspect it might be something else. It has a unique enamel-like texture and there are rings visible on top. Yet it’s quite dull and tiny, it wouldn’t be a very effective incisor. I’m stumped! I’m hoping someone might have some ideas?

Hey guys! I'm hoping someone can help me ID this bone? I found it a little while ago in a river close to me in south Florida. I feel like it’s something obvious like a gator or a bovine but I can’t get a definite answer and it always drives me nuts when I can’t ID a bone! I’ve found one or two others similar to this in the past.

Hey Everyone, Had a decent day out at NSR. Not as good as one person who found 18 verts, 2 arrow heads, and more. Found NSR, Delta County, TX I am thinking this might be a turtle scute but i am still earning. Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster haha. I’m still kind of new to this so sorry if this is a super obvious ID, but I was wondering what kind of tooth this is exactly. I was thinking crocodile, but it seems to have a slightly different shape so I wasn’t sure. I found it at Ginnie Sprints in High Springs on the Santa Fe River in Florida. It’s about 2 1/4” long. Thank you in advance for your help!

I found these near Indian Creek in Springville, Indiana. I thought the heart shaped one might be a clam type of fossil, but I'm really new to all of this.

Making the most of the last of my unplanned leave from work, I decided to make a trip to the Eocene Upper Parachute Creek Member of the Green River Formation in Colorado. Unfortunately, the road was not plowed and there was isolated patches of snow on the ground: I decided to walk the 5 miles to the site anyway through snow, slush and mud., although other parts seemed clear and pleasant Mostly, it looked like this though. Hey everyone, Found this yesterday on the NSR. That would be Texas, Ozan formation. I think it is a fish jawbone but I am no where near and expert. Is it a jaw bone. If so, any idea of species. If not, what is it? Thanks for your help.

Hey Everyone, Found this yesterday out at the NSR. Although there were a quite a few modern bones around. I think it was a calf that died due to the skull I found. This stood out as being close in color to the other bison bone I found. Mass is much more than the modern bones found. Also had some of the black soil in it. I did the burn test and no smell. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Guys any help on these would be great. 2 are some sort of black shell fossils? The other appears to maybe be a jaw bone? You can see it's missing a few teeth maybe. Just never found these before so curious what they might be. Thanks in advance.

Hey Everyone, Went to NSR yesterday. Didn't have a whole lot of luck. Some others I ran into did. I have two pieces. One I think is petrified wood but would like verification. It is not like the normal pieces you find there and rather large also. Other I am thinking might be coral of some type. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Every, I saw this last week while out at the NSR. There is a new exposed area about 20 feet up and saw this and an ammonite in the same exposure. It is right above the grey matrix. I got the ammonite but the slope was too wet last week. It was like ice skating trying to get to it. Got it today! Want to make sure my identification is correct and see how big these things got. I have the same species or similar next to it in a pic. Both found today. Same species maybe?

Hey everyone, Thought I would show my finds from a great trip to NSR on 3-13-2021. I was able to find a an area that has not been picked. Had a really good time. Find a few new items to add to my collection. Over 50 bone pieces. Eight verts of different sizes and degrees of weathering. Hoping that ammonite would of been whole but no luck there. I really like the clam stienkern. I have found a similar species in San Antonio but not this large and not this color. I pulled it out of the grey matrix. Is it Arctica roemeri or Protocardia texana?

For those of you that hunt rivers and creeks in the Midwest how often do you find horse remains? These three humeri were all found within a 2-mile stretch of a river within about a two year period - along with many other random tarsals, a femur, multiple tibia, and several teeth...

So, springs a happenin and I had two opportunities to float the Kaw river, a shallow, shifting sand bar river meandering through central Kansas to western Missouri where it connects to the Missouri river. My first trip a couple weeks ago focused on the macro pleistocene fossils, a bison ulna, astralagus, phalanges, ribs, metatarsals, busted scapula, calcaneous, and various vertebral bodies , some chert flakes from early hominids, pieces of fossil wood, etc. The second trip focused more on micro fossils - I had flipped my kayak in the river on the first trip, and though cold and soaking with waders filled, I recovered everything. The second trip I prepared a little better- I needed a 5 gallon bucket, my 5 sieves, a smaller bucket, and my hiking stick. I needed to figure out how to get to the sandbars, so I tethered the sieves in an inner tube, and sealed the bucket and tethered that as well- worked perfect as there was little drag on the whole train!. I always check the CFS and never go when it is above 5,000, and almost always between 2-3,000 and this was no different, with warm weather and not one person in site! I found portions of ribs ( very common), this bison tooth, a fossil turtle scute, stalagtite, and this corner notch spear point. Most people would call it an arrowhead, but actual arrowheads are far smaller-this was hafted and likely placed on an atlatl, or throwing spear. Numerous chert flakes from working pieces, and then, after sifting several pounds of sand, I found these microfossils. The first reminds me of a cowrie shell but looks more like a piece of coral? The second, and most common fossils I found were these very small, colorful corals? and then this interesting piece i have simply no idea.....even if it is a fossil? there are three ridges on one side-thoughts? then a worn crinoid piece?.....I am assuming ...I haven't even gone through 10% of what I collected!. And I am a little in awe of the color in the sand .. all in all a successful trip, made even better by my new macroscope, camera, HDMI screen, etc .... Its just nice to get out, get fossil hunting and fishing!!!!. Any help identifying these appreciated as always!!!..... Bone 1705181703_kawrivermicrofossils.pptx

I have no idea if this is even a fossil, but this looks unlike any rock I’ve ever seen and I’d really appreciate some clarification on what it could be? I’m pretty sure I found it in a river near Scariff, County Clare, Ireland.

Hey everyone, Been awhile since I posted about identifying anything but I do have a few since I am trapped in the . Finally got most of my stuff sorted. I found this at the NSR in Delta County after the heavy rains a few weeks back. Although there can be bones found from cows fairly frequently this stood out. It was cover in the dark soiled like it was just released. I have only used water and a toothbrush. Hollow center was pretty challenging as the black dirt was tough to remove. I have done the burn test and no hair smell. It is heavier then I would expect it to be. I am thinking Bison. Thoughts and age maybe? Also curious as the break or scrap in pic 7.

Hey all, I've got a beautiful plate from Green River containing two Priscaceras. The stone itself however is kind of ugly, and I'd like to at least egalize the colours of the stone if possible. Would that be possible, and how could I do that? How about slightly scuffing the stone itself?

Hey Everyone, I need some help. Still not sure but think this might be a fossil piece of Lycophytes or similar species. Found North Sulfur River in Delta County, Tx about two weeks ago. I cannot find anything online that shows that this species or similar was in Tx. My web hunting skills are not the best in the world though. Any responses are greatly appreciated.

Hello we have had tremendous amounts of rain where I am, causing the rivers to run wild Andalusia areas to flood. now that it has subsided, I like to go and look for unique things I’m the rivers (gold too ) ove always collected things because they look different or they have a beauty about them. a lot of the hillside along the river has been exposed and there we’re aloe of interesting things around. If I had stayed any longer though I’d have been burnt to a crisp. could anyone shed light on what these could be? I could only come up with possible petrified wood. But thought maybe it was something to do with the fires we had but they are heavy and definitely rock solid. Found at the river at the base of some cliffs in glenreagh.

Found this Fossil at Big Brook in New Jersey. It is a marine fossil site and I was wondering what this object is. It has the texture of a tooth or fossilized material. The object has a cone shape with a pointy tip at the end. On the inside, the object has lines and indents running down the side in 1 direction Images

Hey everyone, I'm brand new to fossil preparation and want to try on a Green River knightia fossil. I'm in Canada though and have no idea where to find unprepped fossils of any kind. I feel like this is something I'd actually be good at as a hobby to get me through some winter blues. I've been obsessed with fossils since I was 3. Does anyone have an idea of where I might find unprepped Green River specimens? Thank you!

Hey Everyone, If you've been able to get to the NSR lately pickings are slim. I decided to head out yesterday at sunrise for another shot. Not hopeful because last few trips I have only found a few gastropod and small teeth. Yesterday was much better. Figured I would share my two favorite finds. Trachyscaphites spiniger ammonite covered in calcite Nice size gastropod semi-covered with calcite.
