    Bison tooth?

I cleaned it up quite a bit, picked it up thinking the top part of the tooth was a beautiful agate , was not disappointed though!

    Amber?

Found at Rasmussen park in a river bed in Mankato , Mn..google lens is telling me it’s hash oil, but I think that’s incorrect
  3. Found this, what looks like a shell in granite. Riverbed in Wallonia, south of Belgium. River, the Ourthe (or Semois). Any chance this could be named or roughly dated?
  4. The pictures show the front and back of a small slab of stone (approx 6in x 6in x 0.5in thick). I have no experience of fossils and so am completely in the dark with this. The stone was on the stony beach which was exposed due to low rainfall - it would ordinarily be under water in a small stream about 2m wide. The pattern is 3D - as if the dark areas within the lighter lattice-type lines have been slightly hollowed out (perhaps only by 0.5 mm). A friend guessed that they may be plant fragments. The stream runs close to an area in Scotland frequented by Druids many centuries ago, as well as being the site of a Roman marching camp (Circa 54-55BC). I wondered if the stone had been carved rather than imprinted or shaped by weathering. I'm afraid I'm not a photographer, but if on first sight the stone seems worthy of further inspection I have a friend who is a professional photographer and can easily have better images uploaded. Also, can only upload the 'front' - which is the more interesting side, due to Mb limit. Once again, I can get my friend to cut the byte size and upload more images if this is of interest. Kind regards, David

    Tooth?

Found what seems to be a tooth in the Big Sioux River just inside the border of Iowa. Hoping to figure out what it's from. It appears to have a sedimentary formed abscess on it which leads me to believe it may be older. It's about half an inch tall and roughly just as wide

    Fossil ID Mammoth Molar Fragment

    ID for a Newbie Please

Hello, I am a new member as of today but have been reading for a while. My son and I have recently gotten into rock collecting. We haven’t gone fossil collecting yet but hope to do so soon. We found these in Inland Southern California in the foothills of the Big Bear area. The site was next to a river or what’s left of it this time of year anyway. I have tried to rule out pseudofossils and different types of rocks. These also remind me of what a ranger described to me as jellyfish fossils while visiting the Bristlecone Pine area in CA. Similar samples were also on display. The second (larger rust colored spotting) might be igneous but I believe the first is sedimentary. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Petrified Mushroom?

I believe this is a petrified mushroom I had dug up a couple years ago..i am wondering if it has now become amber..it is translucent when a bright light is against it..if anyone knows about this type of mushroom I would be interested on any info...thanks
  11. Hello everyone! It was a beautiful, but hot day today on the North Sulphur River in Ladonia, Texas. I found a few nice specimens, but I need some help identifying them. This one was found on the top of the surface near the bank. It is not as heavy as a piece of rock, but it reminds me of the piece of mammoth tooth enamel that I found there a while back. It has a few shiny, smooth areas and has a slight curve to it. Definitely a broken piece of something. Thank you in advance!

    newbie needs help

Hello! I'm a complete amateur & need some help. Camping in Apple River Canyon state park, Illinois in what is called the driftless area. They had a huge flood wash through the canyon a week or so before my trip, relocating tons & tons of rock. I found a few fossils, but don't know what they are or how to clean them up. Thanks

    What is this?

I found this embedded in some rock at the bottom of a riverbed in Wimberly, Tx, a little north of San Antonio. Can you help me ID it? It looks like a claw of some sort. Is hard as a rock.

    I love rocks and fossils

Hi people I am new to the whole fun of fossil collecting. I have found some fossils and one of them I posted in the fossil identity thread. I collect fossilized wood and whatever else I can find in the rivers around here plus when I travel. I will be poking around the forum trying to figure it out a bit. Please go look at my fossil I posted in the id section and let me know what you think. Thank you

    Gone Hiking, Part 3

Howdy folks! So took advantage of a beautiful friday afternoon with my girlfriend. Went for a hike on the river bed that I usually sport alone. She hasn't found any fossils/fragments before so I was more then willing to help her find her first. Came up with a couple finds, Pictures posted below. One coral and another a fragment of an Ammonite. I tried getting the best possible shot i could with my phone camera for the colours on this piece. Pictures do no justice when it comes to the array of colours this piece emits. Then for lunch we settled down for a little wiener roast by the stream. As she was finishing up her lunch, I walked to a near by eroded hill. I stumbled upon a ton of calcite crystals.. no fossils but still very unique to find around here.

    Fossilized humerus?

Found this in a pile of river rock here in Kansas. It's heavy like a rock. I'm a newbie so need some help. It looks like a humerus to me and you can even see the different colors that show the marrow. From surfing the web I've seen very similar shapes of fossil humerus of porpoise, whale and alligator. Should I get back to that pile and keep looking?
