My grandson who plans on being a marine biologist is fascinated by the marine fossils that can be found in Texas. 30 years ago, on a staff development trip to McDonald Observatory. While we were there, they took us on a trip to collect fossils. It was a road cutout so it was legal to collect the minor fossils. I remember that the mostly we found fossils imprinted in the shale. They were simple fossils but even for we teachers, it was so much fun to use our rock hammers, split open a piece of shale and find a treasure. My grandchildren would love this so much. Unfortunately, all I remember is that it was somewhere in the Fort Davis, Texas area. Is there anyone that could tell me where I could find this place? Thank you

hi I'll be in the Rochester mn area on Saturday and wondering where besides quarry Hill park can I take a small rock club group for fossil picking? good road cuts that safe for for old and young?

Today I drove from Northern Illinois into Indiana, over to Ohio and down into Kentucky to do some collecting on AA Highway. I stopped and spent 7 1/2 hours at 4 sites along AA, I will start with my first stop which was located in Wilder, Kentucky. I believe that this is the Kope Formation and is Upper Ordovician in age. Here are some of my finds- I only found one sort of complete trilobite- Flexicalymene sp. Here are a bunch of trilo- bits of Flexi and the lace collar trilobite Cryptolithus sp. This location had numerous loose Sowerbyella sp. brachiopods. I did find one bi valve- I find one plate that had some graptolites- I found a couple cephalopods- A couple cool Crinoid stem plates- This may or may not be something- Site 2 on next post.

Hey everyone! My brother and I are doing a bit of driving today and we're looking for places to stop and stretch out out legs and hunt fossils. Were driving through Moab, Utah, on to Durango, Colorado, through Pagosa Springs, down towards Taos, and towards Red River. Anyone have any suggestions?
