I found this in Casselman River in Rockwood Pennsylvania a few years back just laying in the middle of the river as I was walking through it trying not to slip on the rocks haha! Always thought it was an intriguing & unique find but still to this day I have no idea what it is. No one whom I've showed it to over the years could identify it either. Needless to say, we're not expirenced in fossils none the less! I just stumbled upon this site and thought to myself how great it would be to have it finally identified after all these years (found it in 2014) so I figured I'd post some photos and anticipate receiving some exciting feedback! Any insight at all would be so very much appreciated, and I thank you for taking the time to give it a look & read my post! Thank you so much and take care!!

I found this rock in my garden a while ago, I have tried ID'ing it by myself before but had no luck. I am guessing it's some kind of volcanic rock? I would appreciate any help.

While out for a walk my son picked up this rock. He thinks it is a fossil but I’m not so sure. If it is he would love to know what kind of fossil it is and if it isn’t we would love to know what has caused these lines. It was a surface find in Southern Alberta just on a dirt path at the top of a coulee. It is about the size of an average females thumbnail. The front has lines all over it. The back is smooth. thank you for any insight you can give!

I found this beauty in knights ferry, California. It is very different from anything I've collected yet. I am eager to get any ideas of what it is or how it formed? The strip along the top is defined and somewhat deep and the grooves all over it are also pretty deep.

San Antonio, Tx 78023 After this weekends hard rain, this rock was sticking out. It looked much smaller at first. Oddly enough a rock I found a couple of months fits with it. The fractures on the front of it is why I’m asking what it is. It kind of looks like card board between the fractures.

This was another find from the Bloomington area. It was in the woods a little ways from Indian creek and was covered in moss. I thought it was a geode, but I was soaking it to break down the rock and I realized it was a fossil. Coral of some kind?

I am finding many of these at our farm in Versailles KY. I am finding them near a creek and about 1/2 mile from KY River. I am interested to see what ideas people may have for their identity. There are 2 pictured above. Thank you!

San Antonio, Tx 78023 I have this rock from my yard that looks like it’s covered in iron and something else, but below that it looks like it’s been burned.

I believe this is petrified wood. I Found this and a larger piece, but the larger one is a different texture. It's more smooth with dimples and I was able to figure out identification of that one, but I'm not so sure about this one. Any information?

Greetings all. I just took a quick trip to visit the area where caldigger lost his life one year ago today. It was a sad visit to his beloved "Meg Hill" Bakersfield, but it was a little "respecting" I had to do. I didn't do much prospecting, but did spend a few minutes checking tailing piles. One thing I found and took a picture of but didn't take home, is something that resembles some sort of shellfish fossil. Either that or it's just a concoidal fracture of a mineral that's present. I just figured I'd get some opinions. As I said, I left it in Bakersfield, but thought it somewhat image-worthy. Thanks for any input. Cheers.

I found these near Indian Creek in Springville, Indiana. I thought the heart shaped one might be a clam type of fossil, but I'm really new to all of this.

I have seen this for sale online Seller got it from an old collection and has no provenance info. He has no idea where it was collected or formation info is this some sort of geological formation ? Or is it a genuine Stromatolite ?

Hi all, I found a fabulous sharks tooth fossil about a month ago. Today I found this on the beach in Bay Head and I’m having a hard time identifying if it’s a tooth or just a rock! Anyone want to enlighten me?

San Antonio, Tx Below is another rock from my yard. After I cleaned this rock off and took a picture of it, I noticed the white areas on it appeared blue. At first I thought maybe it was the fluoride in the water. I waited a couple of days then put it under a black light and it was the same result. The last picture that actually show the white was when no light was directly hitting it. What would cause this?

Hey guys. Pretty new to finding fossils. I have grown up looking for sharks teeth but recently started looking for fossils that wash up on the beach. In the area I am in there are a lot of black rock that I sometimes have trouble figuring out if it is a fragment of a bone. I am just looking for any pointer, tips or tricks that would making figuring out if its a fossil or rock. Also if you guys have any info on how you all started to figure out how to figure out what the fossils are (how to figure out where to start my search on identifying the fossils). Much thanks

Yesterday I went to get my covid vaccine 4 hours from home near some fossil localities in Missouri that I have long wanted to explore. Unfortunately, pouring rain all day thwarted my plans, but I picked up a few things of interest. Anyway, I'm curious what this is. It almost looks like Styrofoam at first glance. Are these ooids or something else?

I had this rock and the top broke off and there was a hair imbedded in the rock

Not sure where this came from exactly to begin with but I got it from a friend whose next door neighbor had passed away who used to be a geology teacher at a local school I guess his wife wanted the dirt and the rock pile gone so my friend needed the dirt and let me grab a bunch of the rocks. I no longer have this rock so have to go by memory, I gave it to my dentist because it resembled teeth and a small jaw bone when the top came off. The interesting thing is there was a hair imbedded in the rock where it fractured. It was not fractured when I got it and it was definitely part of the rock but not sure if you can see it in the pictures. The pictures are of all angles of this rock and of it apart as well. It fit in my hand perfectly and I have small hands to give you an idea. The rock was hard but not brittle even when fractured. Kind of like a lava rock but not exactly.

i usally find these in white on a gravel bar in louisiana , this was the first one i found in red and the biggest one i have , is it rare to find in diffrent colors ?
