Not a fossil (?), but what then?

I have kept this thing on a shelf for some 40+ years just because I found it intriguing, but now I'm (lately) getting curious to understand what it could possibly be. I know I have collected it, but I don't seem to remember where - the most likely possibility is the Liaoning region in China, with Pakistan's Baltoro Glacier as a second and rather remote option. I don't see how it could be a fossil, but than what? A concretion? I've seen (not collected, we followed very strict self-imposed rules) quite a few truly bizarre concretions in close to three decades of speleology, but nothing resembling this. Further, it does not feel like a typical concretion to the touch, and rather gives the feeling of pressed sand. Any idea?

    Shark tooth or rock?

Found on the beach in North Carolina. Wasn’t sure if it was actually a tooth or just a very neat looking rock. Any help would be appreciated!
  3. Recently found what I thought was a turtle shell. However the more I examine it the more it looks like a rock/mineral. Interesting pattern on top, side and bottom. Any ideas? Images are side view, bottom and top

    Rock?Wood?Tusk?

Confused by this fossil and hoping for some help learning how to differentiate. Fossil is approximately 3 1/2” x 4 1/2”. One side looks like bark, break patterns look like rock and line patterns are varied. Perhaps I’m overcomplicating?

    Fossil or random rock

I found a couple of weird rocks in a beach. Are they fossils or normal rocks? Location: Ormos Lemonias, Greece. I would appreciate if you could identify whether this particular one is a fossil or not, the other is similar but I can't send it right now.

What in the heck did I find?

I found this strange rock at the oregon coast. Lincoln city, Oregon. It is quite heavy and is flourescent under UV light. Is this a fossilized coral? or sponge? Or is it nothing at all? Thanks for your help

    Chubutensis

I've just found what Im sure is a petrified 9.5" chubutensis if I'm measuring correctly if anyone is interested in having a look please, I'm super inexperienced with shark teeth
  8. I found these rocks on my ranch in El Paso County Colorado. I think they could be fossils, not sure of what type of animal. However one looks like a bone that turned to rock. Any help in identifying would be appreciated!! Item 1 Item 2
  9. We live in Southwest Michigan. We have a large barn filled with miscellaneous things including many large rocks collected over the years. We have no idea where this one might be from- possibly belonged to our Aunt from Chicago who spent time in Australia, Hawaii and Florida (sorry I know that doesn't help I'm just trying to give details). I really love this rock, and would appreciate any thoughts! I have the utmost respect for paleontology, and zero experience in this field unfortunately, so I do not know how to look at this with educated eyes. Knowing this, forgive me as I describe what I see: The rock is very heavy (20 lbs) and appears to have metal or iron embedded in certain spot areas. In those particular areas (of iron) it is shiny, slippery and smooth. All other areas are rough, rock like. There are a few tiny bright green flecks that look like gemstone, as well as little crystal flecks at the flat end where it appears to have been broken off. Opposite that end, at the more narrow end, there is a series of something that looks like it could have been alive- a tiny spine or something? A long bug? Additionally there is a mark in the center that stands out almost heart shaped that is interesting in appearance as well. I have it positioned on a round placemat that is 15 inches across. It is so heavy that if I pull the placemat across the granite, it feels like it's cutting or scraping the granite surface. Thanks in advance, looking forward to your comments!

Found this - what is it?

Wondering what this is I believe I found it couple of years ago on long island ny
  11. (Edit: I initially reported this specimen was found in Golden Shores Arizona, that is an error, it's origin is most likely Australia.) I am stumped as to what it's origin might be, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Root/stem network? Antalya city

Pic 1-2 look to me like a network of roots and I can see the pebbles there but it's a bit hard to make sense of the cavities which look somewhat artificial but then the rest doesn't look especially like something humans would make. Pic 3-4 look rather like some sort of seaweed... Any suggestions would be good!

    GMR Strange Rock

Hi everyone, During my recent productive trip to GMR in NC, which I’ve previously shared, I also found this rather large rock. I was considering trying to split it since there’s a case of one full fossil fish impression being found from there that way, but something about it, namely the weird “etchings”for lack of a better word, seems off and potentially important on its own. Bone with bite marks? Native American sharpening stone? Unless those are just caused by my shovel which seems a bit unlikely. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Bird outline with beak in a rock

I found a split rock and it has the faint outline of a bird, but there is a piece of beak inside the rock. I am curious. Would anyone be able to tell me what it is? Thank you.

    This is new to me!

his was found in Spencer Indiana. They are inbedded in slabs of sedimentary rock. It's about the size of a golf ball. When I cut one open, there's a darker color inside. I polished one up and it almost looks like an Agate? They are all at the same sedimentary level in the cliffs so it makes me think it could be a Fossil. Thanks for any help! Jeff

    Identification

Not certain what this is. May be our vivid imagination, but to us this seems to look like a petrified lizard/croc head of some sort, with one eye intact. What interests me the most is the snake like skin. Feels like leather. The rock is very heavy.
