Evening (morning) everyone! New member here, so be gentle... i have no previous experience or knowledge of fossils but i was out walking the dog the other day and found this strange looking piece of stone or rock but it appears to be made up of two different materials and almost looks as if it has veins or arteries inside... Just looked a little odd, compared to every other stone. Any suggestions on what it could have been? Or is it just some rock... It was found very close to the River Dove in the Midlands (UK). N.B... It's around 2" in length and perhaps about an inch in diameter but my measurements could be off! Many thanks Chris.

I was rocking hunting with my husband a few years back and found this in a field in southern Indiana. We are trying to figure out what it is as neither of us has ever seen anything like it before.

Hi! Is this a stromatolite? I picked up this rock on the premises of the Teleajen oil refinery in Prahova county, Romania. I have seen a chert wedge in a limestone boulder once upon a time, but this stone is different. It has layers of chert and carbonate, right? I grinded and polished the stone. Here is a close-up from the carbonatic area (fizzles with acid): Any idea how old are these rocks when found in S-E Europe? Thanks!

This was found by my spouse and me a few years back in a North Alabama creek. We had not seen anything quite like it, so we decided to take it home to display. Now, I’m curious if it may be some type of fossil or something that others may know what it is. It’s definitely very solid like a rock. Thanks for any information.

I found this five foot under water in Mt Fork River in Oklahoma... approx mile from where the dinosaur skeleton on display in red river museum was found. It's extremely heavy much heavier than petrified wood and when I carried it to museum she said it glowed pink, blue, and green florescence and that it needed to be checked out. She also said it has silver pyrite bursts in some of the round indentations and she hadn't seen anything like it. It's not magnetic at all and has some type of vein thru the center of it's entire length. It has a very unique pattern and I can't find anything exactly like it online. When I first saw it under water it looked almost like a gemstone, dark green in color. And yes it came out of the water shiny like this. It's 7" long and 2 1/2" wide.

Found in Michigan, recently, I came across coal and shale full of flecks along a river full of carboniferous fossils and stones. Much of the coal will still have bits of visible calamites within them, if it helps. I don't have much experience with pyrite, but have with chalcopyrite. The coal I believe is effected by chalcopyrite by the outside looks but the inclusions are more pale, silvery-gold in some areas rather than a deep gold, brown, or iridescence. Is this likely just chalcopyrite, or can the two grow together like this? Are there other ways I can tell whether it is pyrite vs a yellow/gold chalcopyrite, in general? (Apologies for the pic quality, the water was reflecting the shines off the inclusions and was hard for the camera to focus on the whole thing.)

Hello, I'll admit I have zero experience with fossils. One day while waking or property I found this fossil. I am interested to discover what it is and how old it may be. It was found about a mile east of the Trinity River near Palestine, TX. I was surprised that it was on top of the soil, but the area is prone to erosion. It's about 2 inches in length and has some obvious texture to it. Hopefully my pictures are clear enough for identification and/or dating.
