    I think I found a fossilized bone

Hello, yesterday I was on a trip and found a rock that I think is a fossilized bone. I know this rock doesn't look like much but please don't judge it too fast because if you look closely it kind of has the shape of a bone, I don't know if I managed to capture the shape of it in the pictures and to me it reminds the shape of a Homo sapiens shoulder. please tell me your thoughts and ideas

  4. Hey all! So I found what appeared to be a large geode, but upon further investigation turned out to have 5 or 6 fossils imprints! They seem to be seashells, scallop-like so possibly bivalves or brachiopods. I'll attach the pre-cleaning pictures below, then some more later after I rinse it and dry it off. My big question is: since this thing definitely has fossils (I can see at least two are half buried in the stone matrix) and is very likely a geode (it's heavy, has dimples, and I can see shiny facets in a few of the dimples), what should be next step be? I wanted to crack it open along the big crack down the side of it, thinking it would expose a crystal core. But I see these fossil imprints and I don't want to risk breaking them in cracking open the rock. So then, since I've only found some amateur fossil finds (mostly in riverbeds and on beaches), what should I do next? Seems to me the likely responses are crack it open and hope for the best (immediate gut-reaction of anxiety for fear of smashing the imprints too), or try to securely remove or break off the fossil fragments for a bigger cracking later, or to airblast portions of it, or to send it to a museum? I'm not certain and I definitely don't want to damage the thing in the meantime as the sheer age of it has made me quite fond of it. Any advice or recommendations would be welcome!!

Hello i am thinking this is not just a geologic but rather something resulting from heat in some industrial process. Any idea?

San Antonio, Tx This rock doesn’t look like any of the chert or limestone I’ve found so far. Not sure what it is. It looks to be covered in iron. My hands don’t smell like a penny.

    Please help

San Antonio, Tx Here is another rock from my yard. I have a list off the items identified on here and I hope you can see where a beginner or someone refreshing may get confused. To me this rock has more than chert and limestone. The last picture looks like grey bacon.

What I know about the things that I’ve found in my yard so far. Chert Limestone Dolomitic limestone Karst pieces Oyters Clam Shells What would cause this rock piece to be black? It’s kind of like a piece of charcoal that had soaked and dried.

    Sediment with Rock on top

Below is a piece of sediment that I pulled from my yard here in San Antonio, Tx. I’m just not 100% sure on what type of rock this is sitting on top of the sediment.
  24. I went to the aquatics shop this morning to buy some fish food. They were selling these rocks as decor. Person helping me had no idea re provenance. I think they are geologic in origin. But with the banding was thinking there is an outside chance they could be Stromatolites About hand size.

    Chert coloring

On this piece of chert it appears to have either an iron or copper coloring at the top but a green undertone at the bottom. On the second picture I’m assuming that was caused by erosion. What would create the green undertone coloring?
