  1. Hello, I’m hoping someone can let me know what caused the three indentations in this rock? Weathering? Some type of track? Something previously embedded in the rock?
  2. Tooth?

Found in the Olympic peninsula, shows what looks like healed cracks, as well as one that only partly healed. Just over two inches long. Any ideas? The picture is on a 3 inch - 5 inch index card.
  3. Is this a fossil?

Hello, I’m hoping someone will let me know if this rock has some type of fossil in it? I found it in a creek in middle Tennessee. After cleaning it with vinegar and water, several little black spots became visible. Are those fossil imprints of some sort?
  4. Found in my yard while planting

Hi I was recently doing some planting when I came across this thing. Does anyone know what it could be? Our house was built in 1800 and this was located close to the stonewall that borders our property.

  8. Fossil or not?

Hey guys! I hardly know a thing about fossils and it would be great if someone could help me out. My family and I visited Chippoke State Park and found what appears to be either a fossil or just a shell trapped in sand. It’s about 3 and a half inches wide and long. Anything helps. Thanks!
  9. Hello, I have a rather large rock in my yard (middle Tennessee) which I have always thought was interesting. I’m hoping somebody will let me know which type(s) of rock it is? It has gray and white crystals(?) of some sort on top, along with white streaks running through it. It also has several knobby areas. Are these chert nodules? Any information is appreciated. Thanks!
  10. Possible Paw Track?

I’m hoping someone can tell me if this is a paw track of some sort? There are three indentations on this rock of very similar shape and size. (four inches wide) Or would it have been impossible for this type of rock to have had any tyoe of tracks? The rock was in my barn in middle Tennessee. Thanks.
  11. Fossil or strange rocks?

I was walking on the beach in Cape Charles, VA and both of these ‘rocks’ turned up in the surf together. I feel like they may be fossils but I am not sure so I am turning to you experts ;-) If they are not fossils then are they bone or just very strange rocks?!? Thank you!!

I’m hoping someone will let me know if this is “just” a rock, or possibly a coprolite of some sort? It seems to have different textures and layers. Thanks!

  15. Fossilized Fish?

I’m hoping someone can tell me which type of fossils are in this rock. I found it in my yard in middle Tennessee. There are several crushed shells visible, but I’m especially wondering about the areas circled in red. The area circled in the third picture almost looks like a fish? The smaller circled area appears hollow. I’m not sure of what that could be. Any ideas? Thanks!

I found this tumbled rock or bone on Englewood Beach, Florida. It looked different than most of the oval pieces of whale bone I've found. It is very smooth on the darker side and rougher crystalline on the flip side. It measures about 1" at it's widest points. Any Ideas? Thanks for all replies!
