I have never attempted to remove a fossil from rock. I don't have any tools, so I am looking to invest in tools needed. What's the best way to extract the fossil??

I’m hoping someone will tell me what type of fossil imprint is on this rock? I found it in a creek in middle Tennessee. Thanks!

I have been wondering if the black things on the side of this rock could be some type of fossil? Is it a type of fossilized plant material? Thanks!

This was found on my property in middle Tennessee. I have always wondered if it was once used as some type of tool, or if it is just an odd shaped rock. Now that I have cleaned it a bit, it looks like it could possibly be bone. Can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks!

I was wondering a few things about opals effect on fossils and bones in general. 1) does it degrade the value? 2) how long does it take? 3)how does it work? 4) would I be able to do it to some spare animal teeth? (Hope that’s not weird haha)

Hi everyone! I found a interesting rock with metallic luster here at home in Texas. I think it might be a mineral rock but I have know clue as to what type of mineral, Thankfully we have sites like this one for rookies like me that don’t have a clue about rocks and fossils. I have posted pics of the rock and would love to know what everyone else thinks about what mineral type it could be, thanks y’all!

I'm sorry my first post must be a fossil ID question, but this perplexes me. Found this in Syracuse, NY today. It looks man made, but at the same time. It's built into the rock. TY in advance!!.

I found this in NY and polished it not realizing it was something other than a normal rock. It broke in half. It is 1" x 2". What on Earth is this?

Hi, I'm new here and just wondered if anyone has an idea of what this is? I have no knowledge in this field as this is not my area of science. I just thought it would be interesting to find out what I have stumbled upon. Thank you in advance.

Hello all, I'm once again asking for help in identifying an object I found. I have no idea what this is, it was found in Buchanan county Iowa, in an old quarry exposing Devonian aged material. It seems to have quartz on the bottom side (as far as I'm able to tell but I still have a lot to learn about rocks). It almost resembles shell material to me but maybe it's some kind of concretion or something. Hopefully someone has seen something like this, thanks for your help and time!

Hello everyone I have here a specimen and can’t figure out if it’s just a plain ol’rock but I think it might not be a rock at all. This specimen weighs almost 5lbs it’s original location was found in Carrizo Springs Texas at a drilling rig location. Some helpful info and opinions about what this specimen could be would really be great -Thanks y’all!

Information: Squares in the background are 1/2 CM. (object is roughly 2.25X1.25X0.5 CM) (length-width-thickness) Unfortunately I don't think location information will be much use here but: Found in western Montana (United States)(near Great Falls) in a graveled driveway. No idea where it might be from, or if it was already here before the driveway. I'd be more than happy to provide more pictures/angles if it'll help. My little auto-adjusting light was being extremely temperamental with these pictures for some reason.. they are a fair bit darker than the object actually appears in-hand. The inner "tooth" is nearly pure black. I thought when I first picked it up that it was a tooth of some sort.. but the more I look at it, the more I'm thinking some sort of concretion. I don't claim to have any experience whatsoever with fossils, so I could easily be wildly wrong. Any of you more experienced folks recognize it? As a side note, if it does turn out something other than a normal rock, would I want to try to remove it from the other material? Any recommendations on doing so safely?

I was looking at some rocks and came across this, it’s just a regular rocks with no fossils that I can tell but it has a weird point on it and some hook of some sort.
