  18. Hi everyone today I looked in my rocks and minerals book and found the name of those crystals were here is what I found out the name I think is called brucite system hexagonal appearance Lamellar ,hexagonal crystals . colorless green, blue or less frequently pinkish-yellow altered to brown in manganese-bearing varieties . foliated , scaly or finely granular masses. A white variety (nemalite) occurs in fibers up to 2 m (6.5 inches long Physical properties soft (2.5), light , perfect cleavage into flexible but inelastic sheets or thin fibers . Transparent or translucent with pearly luster on cleavage faces, otherwise waxy or silky. white streak , infusible . dissolves easily in cold diluted acids with out effervescence environment A metamorphic mineral found in many low temperature serpentinized rocks , chlorite schists and talc schists. in contact metamorphism of dolomites it often forms at the expense of perthrough them . occurs less frequently under very alkaline conditions Occurrence Nemalite occurs mainly on fracture planes in serpentinized Peridotites at asbestos and thetford mine(quebec canada) and in the asbestos mines of of bajenov (USSR) Lamellar brucite has been found at brewster ,New York in Texas and in lancaster county ,Pennsylvania (USA). where it is associated with hydromagnesite, and in the shetland Islands (scotland) in italy fine white brucite is found at cogne and emaese (Val d' Aosta and in veins several centimeters long at carro (Passo del bracco la spezia) Pale-blue specimens occur in val d' astico (vicenza) and in veins in valle serra (trento). disseminated replacing periclase in calcite brucite rocks at predazzo (trento) and capo teulada (sardinia). also noted in dolomite effusions of vesuvius. Uses used extensively for magnesia refractories or as a source of metallic magnesium and its salts
