I do not have a lot of experience buying insect fossils and was wondering if this ancestor to the modern dragonfly fossil is real?

I am looking into buying the fossil shown below and I was wondering if any one can tell if it’s real or fake. I am leaning more towards real, but I would enjoy some second opinions.

Here is a rock I found in central Illinois and am curious about what it is or what gave it the shape that it has. It seems to maybe be a type of sandstone. Small granules come off when rubbed. Any thoughts? Thanks

Good Day! These fossils were a gift from a friend in the early 1980's. He was a world traveler and brought them to my family from South America. He has since passed so I can't ask him specifics. Clearly they are fish fossils, but that is all I can derive as a layperson. Are there other things that a more skilled person in the field could relay about them? Thank you for the information. The sizes are on the photos: The larger piece is 14.5 x 4.25 x 4 inches The smaller piece is 5.25 x 6.5 x 3.5 inches They are very heavy.

Hello again, I found this unusual shaped piece on a beach on West Coast, Florida. It's hard to tell whether it's a suggestive rock or mineralized bone. It reminded me of a claw or hoof core. I attached 5 photo views. What do you think?

Hi folks. Found a rock in our pasture, and am wondering about the imprint on the side. A search turned up this forum, and I thought it might interest some of you. I attached 3 pictures. After reading your guidelines I see that it suggests pics from 6 different angles, measurements, etc. At this point I don't have those. If you want them I'll get them over the next few days. The first pic shows my Wife holding the rock. I figured that gives a reasonable sense of scale. The following 2 pictures are of course closer views. The rock was found on a steep hillside in a pasture in Illinois. About 70 miles NE of St. Louis. I assume it was uncovered by erosion. Our soil is not rocky, but rocks of various types turn up from time to time. The boss (my Wife) said it looks like teeth marks. I think it's a tire mark from Fred Flintstone's car. I hope you guys have a sense of humor. And that you can shed some light on just what exactly this is.

Found another fossil? At my work place parking lot, glanced down and saw it. Looks like some kind of coral maybe? It's about 2 inches by 1 inch.

Which type of mineral is this? Are the brown areas simply discoloration of the stone or some type of fossil? (It was purchased in an antique shop near Cullman, Alabama.)

Quartzite Flat Rock with Pattern, Man-made or Natural?
Bronzviking posted a topic in Rocks & Minerals
Hi, I found this odd rock on the beach and it looks like quartzite with an odd grooved pattern on one side. Size is 1 3/4 x 1 1/4" and almost a half inch thick. My first thought was a tile with a white designed background. Is this pattern formed naturally by erosion or man made? What do you think this is? -
I found this in a dump on the edge of town. Not a property dump or minden, just a dump in a tree line at what used to be just outside of town and is now developed. It did not at all seem to have been a burn pit, it is not near a waterway, nor did it yield anything terribly interesting, but this. I got nuthin.....

I know that jade is practically non-existent in and around Wyoming by now, but this looks very unlike serpentine or amazonite or unakite. I believe jade has an outer crust similar to this piece I found, but I have found nothing like this in PA nor here in Colorado/Wyoming so I have nothing to compare. You might not see it well in the pics, but the light from the phone doesn't get through the thicker part of the rock but does illuminate the material at the thinner end. Please help ID. I will post more to follow

I found this rock in my yard today and cracked it open. There is a strange light round spot inside along with what looks like small fossils (coral and shells). Can someone please tell me what's going on with this rock? What caused the light round spot?

I have some small rock samples similar to this. What is the best way to extract some of the shells? Is vinegar safe ? I believe the matrix is coquina.

All the snow is melting and river levels were extremely high yesterday. I searched a bank and found these today. The red is Crinoid impression on chert. But I cant Identify the other pieces. I was told ice ice stuff can roll out of the river after floods. Also a lake superior agate for your enjoyment.

I found this high up in the mountains of WYO. on a trip in the 70s. Its very hard. I did the copper test and the copper comes off on the surface of the mineral. I also did the scratch test. It is very very hard to scratch. Not sure I have scratched it. Its about 4 inches long by 2 inches wide.
