Hi! My name is Michele and I am an avid rock collector that brings home every unusual or visually pleasing rock I find! I have found some I believe could be fossils and hope I can find more information on what I have found, what type of indicators on rocks that a fossil hunter looks for when looking for fossils, and best practices for revealing the fossil better without damage.

Hi Friends, just want to introduce myself. Im a single dad from PA who has enjoyed rockhounding all over the country for the past 15 years. I mainly seek and collect gems and mineral specimens but I do stumble upon the odd fossil from time to time and while I have a pretty good bead on geology, mineral identification and gemology, I am a novice with fossils. I have some obvious ones, trilobytes, shell and fern fossils from local shale and limestone beds, but I really only know the most basic info (i.e. I can tell a trilobyte from a crinoid but not much more than that). So I saw the page while doing a google search and decided to join in the hopes that far more knowledgeable people could educate me on what I have. And in return, if anyone is lacking in mineral ID or rockhounding knowledge, Id be happy to share what I know.

I found this fossil while we were out in our keep the other day. There are 2 fossils in one. One looks like a bottle cap and the other looks like a walnut

Hello, This might be a simple/straightforward question, but I'm still curious to know how you guys deal with all the rubble created from fossil preparation.

I’ve always been interested in rocks and fossils but living in the big city searching for them was nearly impossible. I recently moved to the country and live in a place that was populated by the early Caddo Indians and is known for artifacts and fossils. I have found several items that I hope to find out some information about them. After following the fossil forum online I decided to join. I thank you all for your assistance and your expertise!

What's up, everyone?! I'm in Quincy, WA for work for about 6 weeks and would love to do some digging. Does anyone know if there some good spots out here? Also, I don't know if the regulations are the same as at home (New Mexico). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Hope you all are happy and healthy! View from the base of my driveway. Hello, I'm new. Can someone tell me how to preserve and clean my coral fossils? Vinegar, hot water and soap, none of that works. How do I keep the black off of them? And should they be kept outside and watered regularly with the hose? Any information would help. I have been collecting fossils for 21 years now and just realized I have a wonderful hobby. I love rocks. Thank you so much.

I found this in San Marcos Tx. Not sure if that was its original location.. the stones that are through out the whole thing when wet look like emeralds. Its been used as a grinding mano or plate on both sides it has a groove. Any idea of the material would be nice. The piece is about 24 " long and 10" wide and 3" thick. Thank u for any input..

Hello there! I recently found these rocks. And I am super curious as to what rocks they are. I would really appreciate the help in identifying them. The first two are different rocks but I'm betting they are the same type of rock. Thank you.

I'm a true wanderer with a wild imagination...I would rather be rock hunting while kayaking than be around people but HI ...nice to meet all of you and hope to pick your brains while I try to figure out what I've found...mostly rocks I'm sure. I usually stick to either Mt Fork River in OK , Sulphur River in TX or Little Missouri River in AR so everything I find comes from one of those places. I've been carrying around stuff for ten years now and still have no clue what it is.
