  1. Hello, i saw this big Spinosaurus tooth on auction today and wondered, If the root is real and not a composed one. Obviously, a crack was filled, but thats OK for me, and everything else looks fine to me. The tooth Matches also whith the rooted one, seen in Troodon's guide. So would it be worth trying to get it, or should i stay far away from it ? Found in : Kemkem beds, morocco Sice : 12 cm

    Stigmaria blob

Howdy all, I have reason to suspect that this is a heavily crushed stigmaria I found while fossil hunting today. I was in the mammoth cave region of Kentucky in a creek where I found plates of coal up to two feet long as well as this fossil. I also went down into an exposed lake bed of Nolin lake which was down the hill from the site I was at and found several of what I'm guessing are mississippian crinoids.
  3. Hello everyone! I'm here seeking for help with the ID of this Mosasaurus rooted tooth. It comes from Ouled Abdoun, Morocco. The seller said that it's a pterygoid tooth. If you think it is correct, what are the distinctive features to recognize species and that it is a pterygoid tooth? Thank you so much!
  4. Fullux

    Nolin Lake?

Howdy all, Here's a fossil of a lepidodendron stigmaria (found in association to other lepidodendron material). It was found in a coal seam in Kentucky according to the seller, and I am curious what part of Kentucky this would be from. Nolin Lake sounds likely to me, but I'm unsure.

    Root/stem network? Antalya city

Pic 1-2 look to me like a network of roots and I can see the pebbles there but it's a bit hard to make sense of the cavities which look somewhat artificial but then the rest doesn't look especially like something humans would make. Pic 3-4 look rather like some sort of seaweed... Any suggestions would be good!
  6. Considering saving up for this tooth. 104MM in length KemKem group, Taouz Morocco Really not sure on the root
  7. Came across this tooth on the internet. Although not my own interest, it does make an interesting conversation. How much of this tooth is real? It's 7,5 inches in length. Spinosaurid.

What type of tooth is this?

I found this bone/tooth in a creek, here in SW, MS. I was wondering if anyone could ID this piece?
  9. Hi. I got this random mosasaur tooth in matrix. It has this unsmooth texture, so I assume it could be an fake root. Also I see two damaged white marks. I am more interested about the crown, but I think its still good to know so I can notify about it if needed. Thank you for your answers.
  10. @caldigger post on finding two pieces of the same tooth reminded me of the tooth I found in New Zealand many years ago. The site is closed now, so I don’t think there is a chance of finding the root. But is there anyone on here that could accept this challenge? I’ll pay of course! Tooth overlying picture of complete tooth of same size and position showing the missing root. The slightly trickier bit is on the back where the root/enamel transition is partially missing. Scale bar = 2 inches total. A few more images of the tooth;
  11. Hello, I am thinking in purchasing this megalodon tooth. As is on the bigger size of megalodon teeth, I wanted to check if some of you can see some red flags. The seller says it comes from Indonesia and it's not reconstructed or repaired. Thanks!
  12. Hi, Wanted to get some opinions on this tooth. The tooth is from a Pliosaur with a root attached, what I want to know is if the root belongs to the crown. There is some matrix around part of the crown and extends just past the root which is my main concern. My initial thoughts are that the tooth and the root belong together so I just want to see if everything looks alright! thank you
  13. Is there any chance of narrowing this down? A friend of my daughter found it in Hertfordshire, south east England. It was from a disused gravel pit and is presumably Pleistocene. The underlying geology is Cretaceous. It appears to be a tooth root with a bit of crown surviving, maybe not enough to ID. Bear (Ursus deningeri premolar?) has been tentatively suggested though the images I can find suggest that it's too large for that. Possibly U. spelaus? but I really don't know anything about this kind of thing and that may be wildly out. @Fossildude19 @JohnJ Could you possibly tag anyone who knows about this sort of thing? Thank you for looking!

    Root or Animal? help

Yes i have no Idea , learning in progress. Any help would be great!! i picked this up in Southeast Bexar county .
  15. Hi, This is a Sauropod tooth with the root still attached. The tooth crown is damaged missing some preservation but it is the root that I want to ask about. Does the root seem natural or are there red flags that I should be aware of? the tooth comes from the Tiouraren Formation in Niger and is just under 5cm. Thanks.

    Has to be something

I found this sticking out of a rock. I have already done lot’s of research and it seems like a sauropod or sinking of herbivores tooth. I’ve matched it up with a diplodocus tooth , but I’m not sure.
  17. I new to collecting and recently received this Spinosaurus tooth from a dealer who has a great reputation online. It was not a particularly expensive tooth and although the crown appeared to be in good condition from the dealer listing (and no repairs/restoration work was listed) the root has me a little suspect. No alarm bells from the listing photos but now that I have it in my hand and can see it from all angles, it got me wondering. The first couple of attachments are the dealers listing photos. The rest of the photos are mine. The main thing that has me curious is the colour visible in parts of the tooth, especially the root - the white is very white in areas, and I dunno how to describe it, just not quite 'right'. I've included photos of the area on the root that looks a bit fishy to me (mind you due to lighting conditions this doesn't come across as white in the photos as it does to my eye) and then also some damage on the crown where you see the same tone of white - some from a chip on the edge of the tooth, and also at the tip. The dealer does accept returns, just wondering if there is actually anything suspect with this or not? I am a total novice so I may be seeing problems that aren't really problems at all, just wanted to check. Cheers

    Large tooth root?

Good morning, Coastal Brunswick Co NC here. found a really interesting piece. Appears to be some sort of tooth root perhaps? Remnants of enamel-like material on the inside and a void. Folks helped me ID a giant beaver tooth months back and at first I thought this perhaps could also be a match however looking at some pictures of beaver skull it does not have a root like this. I did find some photos of dinosaur teeth that have long roots attached this seems different. Checked whale teeth and couldn’t find anything similar. I don’t think it’s part of an antler. What do y’all think?
  19. Hi all. I found this Spinosaurid tooth online. I like the colour of the crown, but I am not sure about the root part. Do you think it is real or is it, or parts of it, added on? Thanks!
  20. Hi! I'm a bit doubtful about this spino tooth: it is genuine? Is authentic only the tooth? The root is real or fake? I have read online that genuine rooted teeth of Spinosaurus are extremely rare... Thank for any help.
  21. 3'5 inch Carcharodontosaurus S. Tooth from the regular KemKem beds. However, I do have some suspicions of the root. Can anybody help
  22. Hello, Here is what I think is a nice lot of Hemipristis serra teeth from Florida, which are about 2~2.5cm size. However I have no experience with shark teeth or teeth in general so I was wondering if these seem real, if there seems to be any restoration/reconstruction? I think most of these have nice serrations, but how is the quality of enamel and root preservation? Thanks.
  23. I just had another bad experience with the famous auction site wich I can not mention by name as I understand it. (Even my cat could find it in an encyclopedia though...) This time I placed a quick bidding on a - as it was advertised - slightly restored big fully rooted tooth of a Prognatodon currii. To my exitement I won the bidding. Taking a better look at the photo's of the item my doubts grew and on its arrival yesterdag my worries were allas confirmed. The tooth was firmly and totally cemented to the root with a mixture of sand and glue (in a colour nearly matching the fossil). Other breaklines in the root were cemented in the same way (this bothered me less). How about that for a 'slight' restoration. It is possible that the root and crown are just parts of two different fossils. Impossible to know. So I have this argument with the seller who claims the description mentions it is restorated and I should not expect any better for this price... So be warned. Ask for more information before bidding and zoom in on the pics if possible. I will quit my account for that website now. Looking back I can say half of the items I won/bought on it caused me some form of dissapointment. I'll buy from experts only, I never had any problems with scientists and experienced people. Should I give the seller a negative or neutral review? Or was I just too ignorant? Happy to shake it off a bit over here. It's not about the money, it's the new crack in my trust that hurts a little.
  24. Found this digging in greens mill run NC the other day - was in stuff that was a mix of the Yorktown and Cretaceous typical for that creek - so found with crow shark, great whites , giant whites , whale bone fragments and ear bones etc.. It reminds me in shape of the tooth root chunks I frequently find at gmr of the enchodus but obviously much much much larger than those and the bone on this is much more porous as well though I’m not experienced enough to know if that’s from aging wear or not, honestly. Anyhow if anyone knows what tooth root segment this might be from or if I’m totally off and maybe it’s something mammal , any assistance is greatly appreciated! Last photo is the stuff I found (and actually kept) in the same area and with a pen for reference of size.
